Hi, can I join? I've been knitting for 20+ years, I'm not very advanced though. Any suggestions for quick things I can knit, not toys though. I prefer dk or aran, find 4ply very fiddly.

sophs29 · 21/01/2022 09:41

Just marking my spot in the cosy counting corner ☺️😂

Welcome @Turnitupto11 I'm a crocheter so I don't know what would be quick in the knitting world, however I'm sure someone will be along soon with some great ideas ☺️

CrochetBug · 21/01/2022 11:01

Another thread. Another great title. I'm going to make bunting so I'll make extra for here.

In the mean time I'll fling some yarn around Grin

JugglingJanuary · 21/01/2022 11:15

Just getting settled in front of the wood burner... if the snoring gets too much just jab me in the ribs!!

JugglingJanuary · 21/01/2022 11:18

@Turnitupto11

Hello!! How about making a blanket with squares (or any other shape!!) they're 'quick knits' & can have a lot of variety in colour or stitch if you want them to, then make up one fab item.

Otherwise, I guess mittens, hats, scarfs, baby things.

Are you familiar with Ravalry? It's a great website for patterns, of all levels & all different yarns.

crazyjinglist · 21/01/2022 11:27

Hi @Turnitupto11! You could try socks or mittens in aran yarn. Or little phone covers/glasses cases etc. Or a tea cosy if you have a teapot! Search any of those items on Ravelry, filtering by yarn weight, and you'll get umpteen patterns.

Oh, nice title crazy!

Hi Turnitupto11! How about a cowl? I saw this one today on Ravelry and quite liked it and it's free too! www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/little-creek-buff

It's freezing here today, I need all the knitwear. It says it's 6 but it feels colder 🥶

I started swatching for my sample knit last night, the yarn is merino and silk and oh my it is gorgeous.

I finished my gradient spins too so I'm looking forward to knitting them up once the sample is done Smile

Oh and Flavia - did you see that post on the end of the old thread about the ancient craft of nalbinding ?

Thanks! ☺️

Ohh, no, I didn’t crazy! I follow a few people on instagram who do it sometimes and it looks fascinating. I’m off to read it now 😃

lucysmam · 21/01/2022 14:10

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 21/01/2022 14:50

Oof. I had a sneaky afternoon off. My usual Friday afternoon teaching was swapped to Thursday this week, but I didn't tell my supply schools that. Instead, I went out for lunch with my friend to a lovely local café I've beem driving past and meaning to go to for 7 years (since we moved here) Grin. Bit full and sleepy now!

I love that Flavia thank you.

I like the thought of knitting squares in different wool and patterns, but I know I'd never sew them together Blush that's the part I hate most of all.

Socks is a good idea in dk, I'll look on Ravelry.

JugglingJanuary · 21/01/2022 16:34

What about doing the lantern blanket where it is done in pieces but they're knitted into the blanket as you go?

crazyjinglist · 21/01/2022 16:35

Oh yes, sewing things together sucks! I haaaaate it! Grin

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 21/01/2022 17:02

I love sewing up, mattress stitch is like magic when you pull the thread and it joins up invisibly before your eyes Grin

crazyjinglist · 21/01/2022 17:07

No sewing up I've ever done could possibly be described as invisible or magic. Grin The problem is I avoid it, so I never improve. Maybe I need lessons...

OP posts:
crazyjinglist · 21/01/2022 17:08

Or maybe we all just need to send all our sewing up to you @FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack sunce you love it so much Grin.

I did do lessons, I went to a finishing knits class, it was brilliant 😃 I reckon there’d be a market for a finishing knits service 🤣

tizwozliz · 21/01/2022 17:29

I found my missing yarn, It's a bit of a mess! But otherwise the blanket is progressing nicely.

Re: nalbinding - my OH gave me a book a few years ago, I think he was angling after me making him a hat. He didn't take up my suggestion of learning himself

Thanks, I'll have a look, is it on Ravelry?
