Wow that blanket looks great! And love the purple and white contrast!

CantBeArsedToDoAnything · 25/07/2022 13:14

I think I might attempt this blanket from attic24 as from mooching on this thread, I’ve learnt that that is what most people use when starting crochet……..dd and I went on a walk or I should say a push in the pram and some screaming from her into town and got a coffee, me that is not dd and I have found a lovely yarn shop so I picked up some hooks and a ball of wool to practice with it’s so lovely and squishy even though it’s really really cheap . And I did a wool warehouse order. It cost me £60, you enablersBlush. Now, how do I tell dp that I spent £60 on yarn, when I told him yesterday we can’t afford a new washing machine……..

CantBeArsedToDoAnything · 25/07/2022 13:16

This is the actual pattern….

CrochetBug · 25/07/2022 14:05

That's very pretty @CantBeArsedToDoAnything and congratulations on the new baby. I wish mine were still small and squishy! The "call the midwife" blanket is pretty and beginner friendly.

I promised myself I'd learn to knit when DS1 was born. Somehow I never had time and still can't knit nearly 18 years later!

I'm feeling a bit like I might want to crochet, but I'm worried I'll disassociate again if I do. Maybe I'll just make something really small and see how I feel.

VittysCardigan · 25/07/2022 18:32

If any knitters fancy a bargain, someone I know is selling copies of their book off for £5. www.purlandbean.com/janet-smith-cant-knit-book/janet-smith-cant-knit-book

StillNiceCardigan · 25/07/2022 19:59

The blanket pattern looks lovely @CantBeArsedToDoAnything. Yarn comes out of a different budget to everything else!

It's my birthday today and I got two crochet books among my presents (my DCs are well trained) I've spent most of the day catching up with my temperature blanket. Its got all the hot days in it now.

Happy birthday @StillNiceCardiganlovely things!

I think a simple pattern will look fab @Fairislefandango . Yarn looks great.

You can embroider @CrochetBug but don't forget to hang out with us ok?

If he complains @CantBeArsedToDoAnything direct him to some Chichi baby blanket sites and show him what a bargain your blanket will be.

CrochetBug · 26/07/2022 18:06

Happy birthday @StillNiceCardigan

Here's my progress so far. Not done a lot, but no disassociation so I'm not complaining.

So pretty!

InTheNightWeWillWish · 26/07/2022 19:05

Happy birthday @StillNiceCardigan and lovely crochet books.

@CantBeArsedToDoAnything I learnt to crochet about a year before I had DD (now 8 months) but when she was a newborn she would sleep on my chest and I would crochet over her back. I think the gentle rocking of my arms helped her to sleep and it kept me awake. I just did blankets but she was a winter baby so it helped keep her cosy.

sophs29 · 26/07/2022 19:26

@CrochetBug that is soooo pretty!!

@InTheNightWeWillWish she's 8 months already!!! Feels like only yesterday we were all congratulating you!! 😱

Fairislefandango · 26/07/2022 19:40

The cushion cover is coming along, and here is my latest yarn.

I've just done a bit more alpaca carding, but I've realised that some of the fleece must be from alpacas with much longer hair! It's too long to card on my little dog brushes - I think I'll have to comb it instead!

That is absolutely perfect @Fairislefandango! It’s beautiful! And your pillow and the yarn you’re using look great!

Your DD is 8 months @InTheNightWeWillWish?! Shock I can’t believe how time flies!

Welcome @CantBeArsedToDoAnything! I binge watched just about all of Netflix while DS1 slept on me so your new hobby is much more productive Grin

How’s everyone getting on? Hope the temps have dropped enough to make woolly crafts enjoyable again Smile

I've been doing much less this week as we’ve been a bit busy but I did find my missing swimsuit so I’m not going mad, I did buy it Grin

Fairislefandango · 30/07/2022 11:27

The woolly crafts never stopped being enjoyable here - we had a couple of hot days (max 30°) and since then it's been 16-20 with some really rainy days!

We've just had my dsis and her family staying. Dsis, bil and one nephew all had a go at spinning. 11yo dn was pretty good!

We're off to Dorset for a week next Saturday, so looking forward to that and hoping for some good weather!

sophs29 · 30/07/2022 12:37

Todays another hot one but it's supposed to cool down afterwards for a few days with some rain! My garden needs it!

It was my birthday yesterday and I got a cute book to make soft animals and my mum bought me/her a sock/slipper pattern, it's really cute and she mainly got it because she wants a pair 😂 so with my £5 hobby craft birthday voucher I put it towards some yarn for those, due to arrive Monday ☺️ I'm looking forward to starting those!

@SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound glad you found the swimsuits! I hate it when you lose something but you know it's in the house somewhere!

@Fairislefandango ooh Dorset looks lovely! That will be great!

SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound · 30/07/2022 12:54

Happy belated Birthday @sophs29! CakeWine

That sounds lovely @Fairislefandango!

We’re off to France next week so I’m bringing some car knitting and no spinning Grin

Hi! So - my last post was way back in February, when I predicted a short break due to our imminent new kittens. Ooopsie!

In fairness, as well as kittens (who are amazing), DH was very poorly for a while, then we had a family bereavement (not DH!), and by the time we emerged from all that I'd rather got out of the crochet habit.

However, I've been feeling the urge again recently, and decided to ignore the half finished amigurumi cactus in my bag start a new project. It's a Bella Coco granny square bag, and it finally got underway today! Square 1 is slightly messy, but I'm just want to get some done to remind my fingers what to do.

Now to spend the rest of the afternoon skiving off and catching up!

StillNiceCardigan · 01/08/2022 14:15

Happy birthday for last week @sophs29

Some lovely holidays happening as well. I like the colours you've chosen @QuantumWeatherButterfly - I love a granny square (I have a little pile of them that I'm not really sure what I'm actually going to do with!)

I did get offered the job I didn't apply for and I have accepted so I'm starting in three weeks. They only want me in the office for three days for the training period and then it will be one day a week. I've got the part time hours I wanted and they have accommodated the fact that I'm on holiday in September. So all quite exciting.

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 01/08/2022 14:56

Thanks, @StillNiceCardigan

It's a default choice of colour, TBH. This is the bag, so you can see the colours are quite random. I happened to have a mixed bag of the correct yarn (paintbox cotton dk), in different colours, so it's quite a good way to use those up. I've mapped the colours I have to a similar-ish one on the original, and that way, I only really need a couple of extras and the main cream colour for the edges, joining and handle.

Congratulations on your new job - sounds like it has worked out very nicely.

Fairislefandango · 01/08/2022 18:05

Oh big congrats on the job, @StillNiceCardigan - how exciting!

@QuantumWeatherButterfly - nice granny square and colours! Like @StillNiceCardigan I also have a pile of currently purposeless squares!

I still only seem to have spinning mojo and no crochet or knitting mojo atm. I'm getting on fine with the cushion cover I'm making out of my handspun yarn. It's a very basic pattern though, and I feel like I need a bigger project to get my teeth into! I have so much yarn, but mostly only one or two balls of each. I really need to have a sort out, group my yarns by weight and find a suitable project or two!

I've kind of got my mind on other things though, as I'm getting myself prepared for the new job in September by checking out all the departmental resources, schemes of work etc and getting to grips with the IT systems, not to mention brushing up my A Level German vocabulary (starting with the topic of immigration) and re-reading the literature book I'll be teaching! Gulp!
