The struggle to finish (and occasionally start)

Up front: I am not good emotionally right now

But: I finished about 5 projects last week/week before as I got access to a photographer to do a shoot - the projects had been lying around for weeks/months

Since then I have been loloping round doing nothing half-heartedly trying to sort and tidy

It's ridiculous

How do other creators keep on track and finish stuff

& how do you decide which of the many projects you should start next!!

How funny, we were discussing this last night on a Zoom call for our knitting group. One of our group makes amazing jewellery but lost her mojo about 18 months ago. She moved house about seven months ago and is now setting up her craft room and it has come back with a vengeance as she has a new area to sell to.

I currently have:

A quilt top that needs sandwiching
Several single socks to knit
A cowl
A scarf
A cardigan ... need new circulars
A crochet blanket
A knitting design to complete
Calligraphy exercises

And that is all I am admitting to... atm.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 27/07/2020 17:41

Finished! Now back to knitting.

Thanks, katymac. I might take you up on that if my tutor wants me to follow up on the research proposal. It was very specific stuff so it was handy to have someone point me in the right direction!

KatyMac · 27/07/2020 20:10

Well done @SuperLoudPoppingAction

Come on @OldBean2 crack on!!

I had a second fitting for the wedding dress I am doing, in my newly created outdoor fitting room (aka my gazebo in the garden)

OP posts:
SuperLoudPoppingAction · 29/07/2020 09:05

That is such a clever idea

KatyMac · 29/07/2020 18:53

& al fresco sewing lessons?

My commission lady likes it and it fits!! (without a fitting - TG)

OP posts:
SuperLoudPoppingAction · 31/07/2020 20:59

hurrah!

KatyMac · 31/07/2020 21:14

no fittings, never met her and only ever done cos-play for DD

It was scary!

You have got me worried about the wedding dress and the alteration. Is anyone waiting for them?

KatyMac · 05/08/2020 10:06

The wedding dress alteration as on hold until last week, another fitting and some more re-design (changed neckline, straps, added sleeves, re-beaded and now looking at the waist) for a now February wedding!

Wedding dress was a speculative make (most of mine are) and it is finished

I have recently started a prototype line of headscarves for a range but it's hard getting second hand/leftover Africian fabric

Made some of those fun wrap around trousers the crotch is a bit low but they look like mulberry and pitaschio ice cream!

And I started this

Hellooooo! Late to the party, I know, but I've had a project lurking for about 2 months. I'm branching out from my usual sewing/card making/knitting to make herb planters from old glass bottles. I'm terrified of the glass cutter so keep putting it off but I've been asked to make a load for Christmas so I'll have to be brave today and give it a whirl 😱 wish me luck - if you don't hear from me then it's because I'm in A&E having lost both eyes and severed my arteries! 😷 (Joke btw, I do have all the safety gear!)

Love the photos of all your projects. You're a talented lot!

TheSparklyPussycat · 05/09/2020 00:06

And hello from me again. I have completed my very simple triangular scarf, while listening to The Archers on my new headphones.

My next projects are a knitted lace scarf, and three camels to add to my knitted nativity, which was a gift from a neighbour years ago.

KatyMac · 05/09/2020 18:00

Welcome @fairydustandpixies - hope you still ave all your fingers

Hi @TheSparklyPussycat any photos?

OP posts:
TheSparklyPussycat · 05/09/2020 20:13

I say "completed" but of course have yet to darn in four ends. Then picture, I promise. Since I used very thick yarn it's more like a shawl than a scarf...

KatyMac · 05/09/2020 21:50

Ah yes - that sort of completed Wink

CrazyBaubles · 12/09/2020 11:33

Can I join? I crochet and cross stitch.

I have lots of ideas and just as many started projects which I need to finish. My yarn stash is ridiculous - and includes random bits of fabric even though I don't make things that use it Confused

I've made a plan to make some Christmas presents this year and made the front of a cushion this week.

I've decided to use some of my fabric stash as the back so I need to learn how to see material to crochet neatly, make a border, make a mini-pillow to hold the stuffing, stuff and close...

Welcome @CrazyBaubles

Do you want emotional support or practical sewing advise?

OP posts:
CrazyBaubles · 12/09/2020 14:52

Both if I can!
I tend to get excited and energised by a new project, do the worst / hardest parts, figure out how to make whatever it is, then my interest fizzles out.

Plus, I've never joined anything crocheted to fabric before. I have the cushion to do plus I have an almost finished crochet blanket I would like to back with fleece.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 22/09/2020 08:51

I finally finished a craft project.
I sewed dd a book sleeve from purple velvet, with a tooled leather button because she thought it fitted the YA fantasy books she likes reading.

This disappeared on my sorry everyone

How are we all doing?

OP posts:
TheSilveryPussycat · 19/11/2020 11:57

Well, I sewed in the ends of my scarf.

Am now trying to start on a lacey scarf, for the third time! It's the first time I have tried a lacey pattern. Cast on then next row is supposed to be knitted through the back of stitches. Well this time it'll just be a plain old knit row.

I have also bought some pointy needles for lacework. A month ago I had no idea such a thing existed!
