The struggle to finish (and occasionally start)

Up front: I am not good emotionally right now

But: I finished about 5 projects last week/week before as I got access to a photographer to do a shoot - the projects had been lying around for weeks/months

Since then I have been loloping round doing nothing half-heartedly trying to sort and tidy

It's ridiculous

How do other creators keep on track and finish stuff

& how do you decide which of the many projects you should start next!!

Oh I've found my people! I just make things we need around the house (to save money, and avoid waste mostly). I've got half done baby bibs, baby trousers, taggies that my kids have totally grown out of Blush

Lovely to see the beautiful things you are all making.

At the moment I'm trying to get motivated to finish a new fabric inside for the wash basket. After that I'd like to make a new throw for the sofa.

I'm so sorry to hear of your bereavement KatyMac Thanks

Ulysses · 25/07/2020 09:30

Thanks and sorry to hear your news @KatyMac. Flowers

My friend is pregnant and I imagine making all sorts of baby things @AutumnLeavesSeptember and never get around to any of it. I found a crocheted blanket that was 90% finished for my Dnephew the other day. He turns 3 in October. Wink

KatyMac · 25/07/2020 09:38

Thanks @AutumnLeavesSeptember

Umm Motivation? Umm Washing Basket?

Umm just think how nice your dirty clothes will look in the brand new......oh dear!! failed

Your sofa cover will be fab Grin

Well this looks like the perfect place for me to settle in! My kids have been bashing me to finish things I started for them years ago since lockdown and I’ve still not finished any of them. Amongst many many other things!

There’s a crochet bunny, a crochet chameleon

KatyMac · 25/07/2020 11:26

@Hellbentwellwent nag, nag, nag get that bunny/chameleon done!!

Particularly the chameleon I wanna see that!!

I haven't quite got motivation right, have I?

Sorry for your loss, katymac.

Today is another essay sadly.

If I can finish it this weekend it will free me up a bit

KatyMac · 25/07/2020 13:15

That's OK @SuperLoudPoppingAction I can nag you about the essay if you want?

OP posts:
SuperLoudPoppingAction · 25/07/2020 14:12

Feel free!
800 words so far out of 4000. So 20% done.

KatyMac · 25/07/2020 14:56

Good start

I normally start with the introducton and conclusion then fill the other bits in

Come on another 800 wont be too bad?

@katyMac, your nagging inspired me to hike out the chameleon... all I need to do is find the wool I was using... from 4 years ago...

Wow, you are all so accomplished - and with a most admirable number of unfininished (and finished) projects. The only craft I do is knitting.

I have an almost finished extremely simple triangular scarf which has been sitting there for months. No idea why I'm not doing it, hope this tread might help. Annoyingly I can't knit and watch the telly at the same time!

My next project is a blue lace scarf. I did start it, but found it hard to knit with lace weight yarn, so I unravelled the few rows I'd done. But I will do it - I want to give it to DM for Christmas.

KatyMac · 25/07/2020 19:24

@Hellbentwellwent he is SO cute!! Good luck finding the wool!

@TheSparklyPussycat id suggest audio books or podcasts to work too 😉

I ripped apart 2 quilts and 4 pillowcases, altered 2 pairs of trousers, did some tidying and started a new dress instead of doing what I was supposed to be doing Hmm

That was still very productive! I put away my laptop and my sewing machines are now sitting on my desk. I've a few chores to do this morning then I am hoping to get the facemasks done. A friend has ordered Strangers Things fabric to make facemasks with so I've got a wee commission coming up myself.

And then I can get started on my blouse!

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 26/07/2020 09:56

Reminding myself to take my knitting on the holiday I'm departing for in a couple of hours.

I've done 900 more words so sort-of 55% left to go.
I'm not driving so I can write in the car but eep.
Due at 4 tomorrow.

The more I know about something, the slower I seem to be writing about it.
The last essay at this level I wrote, I did it in one evening and it got a totally acceptable mark.

KatyMac · 26/07/2020 12:57

I'm starting my commissioned shorts now - hold my hand I've put them off so much I'm frightened

OP posts:
SuperLoudPoppingAction · 26/07/2020 13:02

Oh you are super talented so fingers-crossed it will be amazing!

I'm on 3112 words.

So soon I shall craft again. Knitting is firmly packed.

AutumnLeavesSeptember · 26/07/2020 13:10

@Hellbentwellwent that lizard is so cool! Well done you.

KatyMac · 26/07/2020 13:44

@SuperLoudPoppingAction When done - keep on truckin'

I am cut out and started!

I have also made 4 different versions of soup for lunch and home-made bread so I am feeling virtuous (lumpy/spicy, smooth/spicy, smooth/bland and smooth/bland but eating 2 hours later)

OP posts:
KatyMac · 27/07/2020 00:10

I finished my commission only 3.5 months late Sad

OP posts:
SuperLoudPoppingAction · 27/07/2020 09:31

But you finished it!

KatyMac · 27/07/2020 10:09

I did

& the essay?

OP posts:
SuperLoudPoppingAction · 27/07/2020 10:34

It's getting there. Due in at 4 so I'm just adding quotes

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 27/07/2020 10:45

The reason why it takes so long is epitomised by the fact that I'm currently translating a document from Swedish using Google, after following up a recommendation from a Swedish friend, because researching a country without speaking the native language is hard.
