refuge.org.uk/2012/06/13/knit-for-refuge-campaign-gets-underway/

A few of us fancy doing a few squares for this, so here's a thread!

As blankets need to be 4x6 squares (24 total), the idea is that we arrange ourselves into small groups by geography and do a few each, then meet to put them together and eat cake

I'll link the previous Location thread shortly so folk can add themselves and get organising Thanks

I will do when he finally gets here!

You do realise they can only wear one at a time don't you? I foresee a heatwave this winter :o

[hopeful]

PurplePidjin · 24/09/2012 08:02

I've made him 5 plus a carseat blanket, in varying sizes. Next up is hats!

OP posts:
Tweetinat · 25/09/2012 11:18

Eeek. Now I'm scared and excited in equal measure!

Just to make sure I've got it right, any style of 6" square in Stylecraft DK Girly colour... I read something upthread about last row being doublecrochet - still the case?

SoupDragon · 25/09/2012 11:48

Pidjin, make as many as you like. I've deliberately not made any yet - when the squares arrive I'll make whatever I need to fill up two balanced blankets.

I think we were going to have more than enough for 1 of the smaller blankets so I would have made it up to to anyway :)

SoupDragon · 25/09/2012 11:49

And I have no idea about the technicalities, Tweet!

[incompetent]

PurplePidjin · 25/09/2012 13:18

I'll see what i can do, then.

When sewing together grannies, a final solid row is much much easier to work with. However, not everyone on the project has experience so I'd say it's more of a preference than a demand Wink

RatherBeOnThePiste · 25/09/2012 14:21

I have posted to Soupy

RatherBeOnThePiste · 25/09/2012 15:36

And hopefully there is a pic on my extensive profile. Just leave Idris where he is or Knotty will be grumpy.

Stylecraft plum, cream and meadow is what I used

RatherBeOnThePiste · 25/09/2012 15:39

It looks reddy but in fact it is purple

PurplePidjin · 25/09/2012 15:48

Beautiful, and nice and close to the cream I've used :o

Will post soon energy crisis :)

Small question.

I mistakenly got woolcraft wool, not stylecraft. It feels horrible compared to the stylecraft wool. Do I scrap the ones I've done and do it in stylecraft?

  1. I can't change colour yet but can get the same tension finishing with a slip stitch so could re do them with a dc, then ss.

Or do I just make more, finishing with dc, ss to use up the wool?

I'll try and get a pic up of them. haven't posted yet

Somersaults · 25/09/2012 18:45

Wool mountain #1 arrived today but is Debbie Bliss for the Little Hugs. I'm still waiting for my Stylecraft so I haven't even started yet Blush

PurplePidjin · 25/09/2012 18:45

If it's made of 100% acrylic it'll be fine. If not, it'll wash differently to the others and could warp the blanket. Don't undo it, though, just make lots of squares for practice and do your own blanket :)

I don't understand the second bit, i think PidjChick is having a growth spurt cos I'm absolutely wiped! Will re-read tomorrow and see if i can get through the brain fog, sorry :)

Ohh, those are similar to the colours I was going to choose! Unfortuantely Deramores is down and so I can't place an order :(

VintageEbonyGold · 25/09/2012 19:01

Yes it's 100% acrylic but I think it's a baby wool.

I'll just send the 4 I've done, if they're not suitable then they can be discarded. I'll go and learn about wools

Tweetinat · 25/09/2012 19:54

Right - yarn ordered. Might have gone a bit loopy and spent £26... I'm guessing that this way at least some of them might match the rest of what you're doing :)

PurplePidjin · 25/09/2012 19:57

Tweeti, try Black Sheep Wool :)

Vintage, have you left a nice long tail on your squares? And have you woven it in a nice long way?

OP posts:
aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 25/09/2012 20:23

Pistey, they are gorgeous but Idris is mine, I tell you all mine

I have't started mine yet and I am tied up with parents' evenings for the rest of the week but I will do them this weekend and post them on Monday.

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 25/09/2012 20:24

Oooh, and Pistey, I think I have messed up, I posted my squares for the other blanket yesterday but I don't think I added my name, and even worse I can't remember if I sewed in my tails. Sorry

VintageEbonyGold · 25/09/2012 22:21

Pidjin, 3 have very long tails, one doesn't and I haven't sown any in.

I have just learnt how to sow in the starting tail on another project but don't know how to do the end tail.

I could get the right wool and try again, if others are yet to start, as I've got the hang of ending on dc but it will be the same pattern as on my profile, think it's called traditional american pattern.

I'm going to try different colours on another thing so will see how it goes.

PurplePidjin · 25/09/2012 22:44

A tail of 3-4" is good, then sew in the same as the starting chain (thread it onto a fat needle and weave it into the stitches so it doesn't show)

I've used Robin Babysoft dk, which is the "wrong" wool. 100% acrylic is 100% acrylic and they'll all behave the same in the wash :o
