Erm. Yes it was supposed to be a square! If I was trying for a triangle I would be impressed :o

SoupDragon · 15/08/2012 12:00

That's a mighty fine start towards some bunting :o

My Dmum (58) was trying to teach me (33) for an hour the other day. It is why I am now on the internet! Grin

KinkyDorito · 15/08/2012 12:30

Haunted I was impressed, until you said it was a square Grin Grin. I am not throwing stones, I wouldn't dare stick any of my efforts on here yet. We will be hooking blankets before you know it Wink. I AM very impressed with Peppa and George though.

PurplePidjin · 15/08/2012 13:09

Practice, practice, practice, practice, practice!

You're clearly capable of forming the stitches, now you just need to get your familiarity and confidence up :)

HauntedLittleLunatic · 15/08/2012 13:54

I've just had another go and have a very square square :)

What do I need to do now...I guess I need to practice the other main stiches...

Is it me or isn't it 'quicker' than knitting (i.e. you can make the same size square quicker)?

Wolfcub · 15/08/2012 14:13

Haunted, I think it's an awful lot quicker than knitting and a lot easier on the elbows? Plus it's a bit more portable!

JollyHockeyStick · 15/08/2012 14:24

Great progress, haunted!

You should try a granny square next :)

PurplePidjin · 15/08/2012 15:53

Whoop!

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 15/08/2012 16:49

Well done Haunted, you're making great progress

I've just made a Cushion Cover, you can see it here

It started off as a blanket but I changed my mind.

KinkyDorito · 15/08/2012 17:49

I have done my first granny square.

I am incredibly pleased with myself now.

Thank you all for your help Thanks Thanks Thanks.

I will put a photo up when I get back home as I'm away at parents and, for some reason, their laptop doesn't like loading my pics onto MN.

ajumped cushion is gorgeous. I'm all aspirational now and may have to have a go.

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 15/08/2012 18:03

Well done - I warn you it is addictive. I started off making the odd granny square (and some of them were very odd) now I crochet every single day.

Wolfcub · 15/08/2012 18:14

oh Pantry boy that looks fantastic

DancesWithWoolsEnPointe · 15/08/2012 18:59

Pantry - it is addictive isn't it! I'm shocked.

My second granny is successful (its on the thread for 3girlies blankie with the lovely pictures) - and I managed treble!

JollyHockeyStick · 15/08/2012 23:07

On my profile you can see what I've been doing for the past three days. He's pretty lopsided but I'm sure DS will love him :)

HauntedLittleLunatic · 16/08/2012 00:20

OK...I need something REALLY easy that DCs will be able to do fairly quickly amd very easily for a Guide badge.

I'm thinking either a flower which they can make into a broach with a pin on the bad and a button in the centre...or a granny square without corners (well a circle really) which could be a coaster.

Ideas welcome and uber simple patterns (with explainations of random letter please) required...please bare in mind I haven't even taught them to chains stitch yet but they are wonderful knitters and picked that up super easily.

Oh and I love the little mouse. I want to be good enough to do that :)

Thankyou. I LOVE that bookmark!

LollipopViolet · 16/08/2012 20:09

Why will my squares not go square? Second attempt at one is going the same way as the first :(

Bah!

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 16/08/2012 20:24

Lolipop, is it a Granny Square?
How are you doing the corners?

PurplePidjin · 16/08/2012 20:43

Make sure you're getting right to the end of the row, Lolli, it's further along than you think and can be a bit of a tight fit for the hook. Also, make sure you're starting right at the first stitch...

RatherBeOnThePiste · 18/08/2012 14:18

This is American crochet yes? Confused But what is a hdc

Really hoping I can make this to go on a square

Is it where you go through all three at once? I'm having a sense of deja vu here because I know I've asked this before Blush
