I reckon the Granny Stripe is perfect - I think it's just trebles and you won't have to sew it all together at the end like you do with squares.

Nice clothes BTW, Pidj. I am thinking about making this for DS2's teacher as I didn't like the blanket I made (Patons Smoothie yarn - feels nice as yarn but was too firm as a blanket).

Jules, go to a wool shop and choose something gorgeous.

Then do something in a simple stitch and lots of gorgeous colours!

Or, do lots of different squares and get creative :o

PurplePidjin · 05/07/2012 11:07

Soupie, I'm working on a bear hat too! Could you back the blanket with hessian and call it a rug/playmat?

SoupDragon · 05/07/2012 11:18

I just don't like the blanket. I knew I didn't like it but finished it anyway in the hope that washing it might sort it. It hasn't. I may sew it up into a bag instead.

Jules, granny squares are v easy, with endless possibilities for colours and patterns, and the big benefit is the squares are more portable for crochet on the go than a big blanket.

Can I join the hooky quiche? I am a bit of a hook flirt, knitting is my main thang, but I love hooking little things for my DD and accessories etc. I haven't done anything complicated or big in crochet since a huge blanket when I was 14, but it was only in dc, so not exactly taxing. Would love T9 be more ambitiou but am scared.

I'd also love to try Tunisian crochet, but no idea where to start, maybe someone can give me some pointers?

Smile

Oops....

Brew :o

GrapesAnatomy · 05/07/2012 16:32

this is my favourite crochet blanket ever. I keep looking at it longingly but haven't plucked up the courage to start it yet - mainly because I don't know where to start with choosing wool (I can't find the stuff she has used).

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 05/07/2012 18:15

Pidj, your stuff loks lovely,

I don't like my current project. I love the pattern but the yarn is horrid to work with, I think it will look ok when it is finished but I'm not in love with it whereas when I was doing my circles-in-squares blanket I loved every moment of it.

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 05/07/2012 18:17

Grapes - that blanket is gorgeous, i love the colour combinations

DillyTante · 05/07/2012 19:04

Hey Daisy (tis B-u-m-p-e-r)!

DillyTante · 05/07/2012 19:07

Word up: Blacksheep wool have got sublime bamboo & pearls at silly prices. Is bamboo any good for blankets or too floppy. I do love it but never know what to use it for.

SoupDragon · 05/07/2012 19:08

The Sirdar bay bamboo makes a lovely baby blanket.

I did have a basket full of this offer at Black Sheep but I didn't check out with it. I was Very Good.

I'm sure there is a bamboo/wool UK yarn grapes. Rowan maybe?

LackaDAISYcal · 05/07/2012 19:29

In the back of my mind, I knew that dilly :o
How the devil are you? And your gorgeous family? Can not believe our "babies" are 5 already! And I saw upthread that you were teaching crochet. Go you!

SoupDragon · 05/07/2012 19:30

Any Aran would do. Other people seem to have used good old Stylecraft DK though as well as RICO Creative Cotton which is Aran .

Cucumber patch has some Bamboo Ewe in stock which is one of the listed yarns for that pattern.

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 05/07/2012 19:42

I've used bamboo for a blanket, I think it was Sirdar Snuggy babay bamboo

DillyTante · 05/07/2012 21:55

Wasn't sure daisy. I still bumble around in my old guise when I can be bothered. 5 I know! Daisy was the first MNetter I ever met. We were on an antenatal/postnatal thread, for years in the end wasn't it?

LackaDAISYcal · 05/07/2012 22:38

Indeed Dilly, years!, though I still see all on facebook! We were both under instruction to let our DH's know we hadn't been abducted by hairy handed truckers, but were so busy gassing, we forgot :o

I've spent the day crocheting hair adornments for DD

PurplePidjin · 05/07/2012 22:49

I'm using a combination of Sirdar Big Bamboo and Snowflake for my bear blanket and it's luuuuuvverly :)

Whenisitmysleepytime · 06/07/2012 13:20

Hi all! :)
Loving all of the WIPs! Grin
I am finally hooking together my granny squares. :) it's fairly quick up I do have to concentrate to make sure the squares all join squarely iyswim.
this is all my squares ready to join. I'm now on row 8 or 9 and my pattern has changed slightly when I got in a muddle. Blush

I think it'll be a small ish blanket but I am bored of granny squares now.

SoupDragon · 06/07/2012 18:04

Oooh... Very nice :)
