Pantry, that blanket is absolutely stunning Smile Very lucky person who is getting that for a gift! You should be very proud: it's gorgeous.

What yarn did you use for it?

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 02/07/2012 22:40

Thank you, I really hope she likes it. I always feel ridiculously nervous when I give someone something I have made.

The yarn is only stylecraft DK, I've found if I use a 3 hook (rather than the recomended 4) it crochets much better.

DillyTante · 02/07/2012 22:47

Pantry that blanket is amazing! What a lucky recipient.

Soupy that app sounds good, will have to check it out. I don't even really like working from patterns so prefer something like a blanket where the pattern is repetitive or to just make up my own.

PurpleP mass yarn bombing sounds great. I tried to amass a posse for tomorrow but no one else has quite my single minded attention whorishness commitment.

Have you all seen this website?? Can't remember if it has been linked before.

DillyTante · 02/07/2012 22:52

Gotta love stylecraft DK! You usually use a 3? I'm a slave to 4, but then I crochet pretty tight. On the subject of hooks has anyone else got one of these hooks. I love mine!

Here's a preview of tomorrow night btw

FormerlyTitledUntidy · 02/07/2012 22:54

Oh I love it pantry.
Must resist the urge to begin a new blanky project :)

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 02/07/2012 22:55

I love my Addi hook
I am addicted to a three though. I alternate between the Addi and a clover soft touch and another one with a black rubbery handle.

DillyTante · 02/07/2012 22:57

Jules you just have to be consistent with your starts/endings. With treble crochet you do a ch3 starting train which counts as a stitch, therefore you skip the first stitch. You then have to make sure that at the end your last treble crochet goes into the ch3 on the row below. Does that make sense.

BUT with DC (UK) you don't do that, it's just a single chain at the start, doesn't count as a stitch so you crochet into the first stitch (or loop of foundation chain), and you don't crochet into the chain at the end because it doesn't count as a stitch.

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 03/07/2012 23:20

DillyTante i blame you - I've just ordered two more Addi swing hooks!

SoupDragon · 04/07/2012 06:58

Lovely blanket :)

RatherBeOnThePiste · 04/07/2012 07:05

Soupy! Was it sidar yarn you used for your gorgeous rainbow ripple blanket?

SoupDragon · 04/07/2012 07:17

Er... yes, I think it was... the snuggly baby bamboo. That's Sirdar isn't it?

Kemps was cheapest IIRC!

Morning all. I yarn bombed last night!

SoupDragon · 04/07/2012 07:21

Right. Have been lurking on this thread for ages because you all seem such knowledgeable hookers, but now I'm joining if that's ok! I can't bring anything useful as my knowledge is soooo limited. But...have just received a large parcel of Sirdar snuggly in lots of lovely colours to start my first blanket. Only a very basic one, but nevertheless my first proper project. DH is going abroad on business for a fortnight so thought it was the perfect time to have a project. Even ordered myself a posh new hook too. All systems go soon! Or not, as the case will probably be. Grin

RatherBeOnThePiste · 04/07/2012 16:21

Cakey love, I've been here and no one has booted me off Team Hooker yet xx

TimeForCake · 04/07/2012 16:28

Grin thanks Pistey.

SoupDragon · 04/07/2012 16:58

As long as you only want to talk about one pointy thing, you are more than welcome.

I have very little actual knowledge about crochet but can google well hide it well.

SoupDragon · 04/07/2012 16:58

But e need to know colours, Cakey and what pattern. [sheesh]

OP posts:
TimeForCake · 04/07/2012 17:23

Oh yes, the details! But Pattern??? Pattern?? Err well all the ones I look at seem to befuddle me so thought I'd just go for something easy like double crochet?? About 30" square? Colour scheme is multi coloured stripes, inspired by Attic 24 blog. Need it to be unisex really. I have lots of wool now and that is just as exciting as starting it. I've been missing out all these years! Does that sound ok because i'm seriously making it all up as I go along. I know it'll need some sort of edging at the end, so may shout for help then if not before.

Think you put a link earlier Soupy to Attic24's granny stripe which was lovely. Have also looked at a few on Ravelry but I never seem to get far in reading a pattern before it loses me.

SoupDragon · 04/07/2012 17:50

Ah, an Attic24 Granny Stripe then.... I'm doing a rainbow one of those on holiday this summer. I'm hoping it will remind me of the Caribbean when in the midst of a British summer winter.

OP posts:
aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 04/07/2012 18:17

Granny Stripe is lovely. Cakey, I used Sirdar Snuggly for a blanket this year and I was really pleased with the way it turned out.
I'm using a 4ply bamboo mix at the moment and although the finished squares are lovely it is a nightmare to crochet with.

DilyTante - great yarnbomb. I love the strawberries

Jules146 · 04/07/2012 18:44

Thanks for your advice/help... I do chain up before a tr and ch 1 before turning... Think Im just very loose I am hoping it will all improve as I make more... I will persevere

Dilly Tante, so great, love it... How long do you think it will last for?!

PurplePidjin · 05/07/2012 08:37

I don't know if anyone's interested, but I've put a pic of my latest venture on my profile...

Jules146 · 05/07/2012 08:39

Very impressive Pidji I like :)

Jules146 · 05/07/2012 10:41

Ok, so I want to make a 'family' blanket- meaning I want a blanket that the DC can snuggle under (and maybe me!) but I don't know what to do :( i like the Rainbow Granny and I like AJumpedUpPantryBoy's blanket... and I am sure there are others!! I am fairly new to crochet- so nothing too difficult that I will put down and never return to!! Any recommendations greatly received!!
