For those who are/want to be involved in making a yarn blanket for EdgarAleNPie this is your crochet thread! I'll post patterns and advice, and hopefully so will other crocheters! Here's a basic Granny square:

1/ Ch2, 4tc in 2nd ch from hook. Slst to join.

2/ Ch2, 3tc ch1 in each st around, join w slst (12 sts)

3/ Ch2 turn, 3tc ch1 3tc in gaps (this makes a corner). Join w slst.

This gives you the square shape. As you increase, the number of gaps to crochet in between corners will increase. Keep increasing until it measures 6" or 15cm - think that's usually another 2 rows? Smile

May bea bit late NY now, but here are a couple of very useful pictures I have found, to help people like me , who can crochet but cannot follow a written pattern:

What a lovely butterfly frazzled. I'm glad I'm not the only one to do some pink.

purplepidjin · 27/03/2011 18:43

Frazzled and Ellenjane, have a gold star each those are awesome!

Fraz, is your butterfly a tester or is it yellow cashmerino/cashsoft?? Just a little paranoid over here...

Thanks purplepidjin. My pink flower isn't cashsoft, just some odd mercanised cotton yarn I had. The rest is cashsoft though. Do you think that'll be ok?

purplepidjin · 27/03/2011 19:24

It should be ok. I'm not a yarn expert! The point of all using exactly the same yarn is so that the blanket washes and dries evenly. A mixture of fibres between the squares could end in warping in places after a couple of washes - we want something that will last Smile

Thanks purple. It's only a little bit. I'm sure even if it shrank loads it wouldn't affect the square, it's fairly loosely attached.

frazzledblob · 27/03/2011 20:59

no yellow, its probably my picture taking skills Blush its shade 509 of the cashsoft, lime i think it is.

I have resisted mixing yarns, although it is very difficult as I have seen some lovely designs and its so tempting to dip into my mixed yarn stash Grin

I have only managed a quick browse at patterns today as my two have been full on today. Going to settle down with a cuppa and chill out with some crochet now. :)

purplepidjin · 27/03/2011 21:30

Yay!

I'm free Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday week due to shift patterns - fancy a spot of crochet and cake in Southampton if enough squares arrive by then?

EllenJane1 · 27/03/2011 22:24

Come on, more pictures! The applique and embroidery mob have got lots.

frazzledblob · 27/03/2011 22:32

I fancy the crochet but I am back on my diet in the morning so no cake for me Grin

Will pm you now as between work & kids I may be stuck until easter :(

I have just attempted a heart design square, not convinced its quite as it should be - is everyone else having a trial run with other yarn first?

frazzledblob · 27/03/2011 22:35

where are their pics ellen?

EllenJane1 · 27/03/2011 23:19

There's some here

nickelbabyhatcher · 28/03/2011 10:33

LeroyJethroGibbs - thank you thank you thank you for my wool!

it's lovely, isn't it! Grin
beautiful colours, too.

I've left my hook at home Angry so i'll have to take my wool home wtih me so I can start it tonight.
Then I will spend the next couple of days obsessing over it! Blush

nickelbabyhatcher · 28/03/2011 11:08

I gave the heart a go - the first round was perfect, the second round did not look like a heart (i've got a chunky hook and some testing wool)
it looked more like an oval!
I've translated the pattern into UK English and will give it another go....

nickelbabyhatcher · 28/03/2011 11:09

(if it looks like an oval again, one of my squares will have a pretty oval on it! Grin )

SoriaMoria · 28/03/2011 14:56

Afternoon. I've just finished my squares and am going to try to post a picture... Will let you know if it works...

SoriaMoria · 28/03/2011 15:01

OK - let's hope that works. Maybe someone can let me know? Will try to put them in the post tomorrow.

nickelbabyhatcher · 28/03/2011 15:06

is it on your profile?

SoriaMoria · 28/03/2011 15:14

Second time lucky. I hope.

nickelbabyhatcher · 28/03/2011 15:14

SoriaMoria · 28/03/2011 15:17

Really? When I preview my public profile it brings up a link to the photo. That doesn't work for you?

nickelbabyhatcher · 28/03/2011 15:21

it didn't, but it works now!
