For those who are/want to be involved in making a yarn blanket for EdgarAleNPie this is your crochet thread! I'll post patterns and advice, and hopefully so will other crocheters! Here's a basic Granny square:

1/ Ch2, 4tc in 2nd ch from hook. Slst to join.

2/ Ch2, 3tc ch1 in each st around, join w slst (12 sts)

3/ Ch2 turn, 3tc ch1 3tc in gaps (this makes a corner). Join w slst.

This gives you the square shape. As you increase, the number of gaps to crochet in between corners will increase. Keep increasing until it measures 6" or 15cm - think that's usually another 2 rows? Smile

I've just posted a pic of my square. It's a dragonfly, which I thought was quite apt for a beautiful yet all too short life. :(

Is it visible enough in the square though? Never really tried making textured pictures/patterns before.

Also, does anyone want to swap a contrasting colour for some lilac? I fancy making another one with stripes or summat :)

nickelbabyhatcher · 28/03/2011 16:43

oh, that's beautiful, Spawn.

EllenJane1 · 28/03/2011 17:19

Lovely squares, Soria and Spawn. Smile

purplepidjin · 28/03/2011 18:48

I will look when I get home but the thought time and effort everyone is putting in makes the squares beautiful no matter their physical appearance. So many people learning new skills to bring comfort to another family

What lovely squares Soria and Spawn! I love the sentiment behind the dragonfly.

Mine is just plain (no motif), but hopefully it will fit in somewhere. I forgot to take a photo before I posted it this morning, which is a shame since it's my very first square. However, I'm proud to be contributing to something so important.

StickThemWithThePointyEnd · 28/03/2011 19:39

lovely squares. I can't wait to get started on mine.

purplepidjin · 28/03/2011 21:33

Am now home from work and seen the pics - o. m. g.

I feel honoured and privileged to sully your talent with my hook Wink

purple - glad you think that! It means that my rubbish squares are still appreciated (I did put love into each one :) )

nickelbabyhatcher · 29/03/2011 12:56

I've finished 3 squares.

is that okay?

I've got some wool left - mine are olive green and a darkish turquoise.

I'll upload pic to my profile in a minute.

purplepidjin · 29/03/2011 14:00

Sounds awesome nickel. Leftovers can either be swapped or come to me for the stitching up :)

nickelbabyhatcher · 29/03/2011 14:37

EllenJane1 · 29/03/2011 18:16

Liking the colours on your squares, nickel. They're lovely.

nickelbabyhatcher · 30/03/2011 12:04

thanks Ellen ! chosen by Jethro Grin

Purple - do I have to send my completed squares to you?
could you please PM me your address?
thanks!

purplepidjin · 30/03/2011 12:10

Nickel you should be receiving a stamped addressed envelope to put your squares in. Lots of people preffered to help financially so postage is one of the things the money has been used for :)

Pm pixie if you haven't got one in the next day or two and thank you

nickelbabyhatcher · 30/03/2011 12:15

lovely, thank you.
I shall be patient! Grin

Recieved my yarn yesterday thanks to a lovely donor. I have managed to finish one square and will get some more made over the weekend.
I must say the Rowan yarn is amazing, you can see the stitches much more clearly than acrylic. Its also a dream to work with. Its absolutley gorgeous and the finished blanket is going to be marvelous.

I have the 200 blocks book by Jan Eaton, are there any particular squares in there that anyone would think would look especially good? I have made the waterlily one.

EllenJane1 · 01/04/2011 13:13

Ooh, ooh cloudpuff, I've got that book. Smile I did Christmas rose no. 28, with a pink flower, and granny with a twist no. 40 and begonia no. 181. They're on my profile page. They are all so pretty, it was hard to choose.

The waterlily one is beautiful. I thought if lots were knitted, therefore solid, that the less lacy ones would be nice. Mind you, that was after I did the granny one. I don't think it matters, more variety the better.

nickelbabyhatcher · 01/04/2011 14:25

ooh, they're nice.
i wish i could follow a pattern. :( Envy

EllenJane1 · 01/04/2011 14:31

Have you left the AIBU thread? I was enjoying it, hun, lol.

nickelbabyhatcher · 01/04/2011 14:40

i keep being drawn into it.
some people are quite tetchy, aren't they! Grin

EllenJane1 · 01/04/2011 14:47

It was all a joke, surely.

Please don't call me surely.

Actually I never write lol or hun, and it's taken me ages to use the emoticons. I actually prefer real writing and italics and !!! etc. But, as I said, it's my age. I'm usually on SN and I don't care what people put, if they need help and advice I try to give it (and receive it,) graciously.

nickelbabyhatcher · 01/04/2011 16:23

yes, i like real writing too.
I can't cope with capital letters, though - comes from when it used to hurt my little figner to press the shift key, so I stopped using them!

frazzledblob · 01/04/2011 19:49

Hello everyone.

Just checking in to see how everyone is getting on? I am hoping to finish my second square tonight and I was wondering how many squares everyone else is planning to do?
