ok, I am a very basic knitter. I cant read patterns and can do a basic row, but want to knit a square of edgar (as Im sure lots of others do) so it was suggested on the other thread here that a thread was started for the less confident where we can collate advice and help without feeling a bit dim and where the more advanced can help us out a bit!

Not a problem, Minnie. Posting them off by then end of the week gives us something to focus on, the actual construction will take much longer! So stragglers can be incorporated. And, if it gets beyond 5'x6' I'm going to get some cheap cushion pads and make knitty/crochety cushions to match Smile

sayanything · 06/04/2011 12:34

Purple, I've done about 5 but how many will actually get to you will depend on whether I can block them to more or less the right size (serves me right for not bothering to check my gauge). I'll be posting tomorrow hopefully, but it should take a few days for them to arrive from Brussels - is that ok? Thanks a million again for doing this.

purplepidjin · 06/04/2011 13:14

Sayanything, afaik friday is a "send by" suggestion just so we can keep things moving. Obviously the post screws up, people are busy or abroad etc, so I'm NOT going to say that anything not with me by Friday doesn't go on. What I will say is

All squares made for the Edgar family will be used to make something to give to the Edgar family

I got to 5' x 18" on Saturday/Sunday, so I'm expecting to get to 5' x 6'. If I go over that, I'll make cushions from the rest! I will used all woolly squares for the cause they were intended Grin

foundwanting · 06/04/2011 13:17

My squares are on their way. Grin

ohmeohmy · 06/04/2011 13:50

posting mine tomorrow

PrettyCandles · 06/04/2011 20:09

Purplepidgin, if you have zillions of squares, would it be a mad idea to back the granny squares with plain-knit squares? Granny squares can be a but drafty.

magicOC · 07/04/2011 00:15

Excuse my ignorance but whats a granny square? Blush

purplepidjin · 07/04/2011 07:21

Hmm, maybe Pretty. We'll see Smile

Sending mine at lunchtime. A did a diagonal one that's decidedly wonky despite blocking... Purple, please don't feel you have to use all of mine, esp if you have loads. Honestly.

PrettyCandles · 07/04/2011 09:26

Sayanything, one of mine is also a wonky diagonal - perhaps Purple will sew them together and make a veeery small diamond-shaped cushion! Grin

purplepidjin · 07/04/2011 10:12

I don't like the idea of using them for anything other than what they were made for! Everyone's made such a spectacular effort

sayanything · 07/04/2011 13:21

Ok, you asked for it - they've been sent! You can see the wonky diagonal one on my profile, if I managed to upload the photo correctly.

KnitterNotTwitter · 07/04/2011 14:30

Niecie · 07/04/2011 15:55

I was going to post mine today but DS2 is a little bit poorly and home from school so I won't be going out. I hope tomorrow isn't too late. You never know, I might even managed to make another one this evening. Smile

PrettyCandles · 07/04/2011 16:19

Posted my pics. Colours have come out a bit odd - greenyblue colour is bright royal blue in one pic!

fishcakefoxtrot · 07/04/2011 20:20

I have put three in the post today. If you need extra to square things off I will happily knit a couple more- I have some yarn leftover. Hope the joining-up is going well and that you don't have crochet cramp pidjin!

JulesJules · 07/04/2011 20:25

Mine won't fit in the envelope with the left over wool and the card, so I've got to get another envelope, will post tomorrow so they should be there on Saturday.

TigerFeet · 07/04/2011 20:26

Hello ladies, I'm afraid I'm a bit behind, dh has been quite ill so RL has been a bit manic but I have all the bits I need and I'm going to make a start tonight... Hopefully a square will go in the post over the weekend. Sorry it's a bit late .

morsbagmum · 07/04/2011 20:31

mine will also be late as we've all been struck down with a anasty bug and I only got my donor wool today (it came last week but was posted through my neighbours door and she only returned from her hols today), I'm making a start tonight on the donor wool, hope to get them in the post Monday at the latest x

magicOC · 07/04/2011 21:05

thanks purple Smile very nice.

LadyWellian · 07/04/2011 23:12

OMG PrettyCandles you can knit and crochet! Fantastic! And you can make up patterns. They are wonderful, whatever the difference in colour between RL and MN.

silkenladder · 08/04/2011 11:16

Five squares in the post.

Will try to upload and link to pics after I've photoshopped them while dd has her nap.

silkenladder · 08/04/2011 17:26

purplepidjin · 08/04/2011 17:36

I can't wait to see them all! Rl aka work has beek manic this week and I?e got a new baby housebunny who needs deterring from nibbling wool so I. Hoping to get a decent amount done next week

purpleknittingmum · 09/04/2011 19:12

Hi there, my wool arrived today and I have made a start. I seems to be coming out a bit narrower than 6 inches. Do we have to block it before we send it? I am a lazy knitter Blush and don't block my projects

I wouldn't know how to do it and wouldn't want to mess it up!
