High risk

I have been told I'm in a high risk for down syndrome.

I have to go back on Thursday for the next blood test.

I'm 38 years old and nearly 18 weeks. So nervous and scared about the results and next steps!

So I called the hospital today test was only a week ago but I know some people’s come early. They said that the clinic has notified them to say due to covid they are now running delayed so could possibly be longer than two weeks. Can I ask how long everyone’s test results took to come back? TIA

Liveforholidays · 21/05/2020 06:39

Pre covid mine was exactly 2 weeks which felt like an eternity. So sorry to hear that you've got a longer wait.

Worried134 · 21/05/2020 07:02

@liveforholidays it’s frustrating but I also get it. Just doesn’t make it any easier. Wednesday will be two weeks x

Paranoidkaty · 26/05/2020 09:23

@Worried134 did you get the results back ? X

Worried134 · 26/05/2020 09:37

@paranoidkaty no I just had a call the bloods didn’t get to America on time got to do it again. Devastated

Paranoidkaty · 26/05/2020 10:04

That’s so awful. I’m sorry to hear that x

S1986york · 26/05/2020 10:49

I’m so sorry you have to go through all of this again, it’s not acceptable! Mine bloods went to London, don’t know why they have to go to America? X

Worried134 · 26/05/2020 11:30

Thank you @Paranoidkaty x

@S1986york yes it’s because mine is a pilot so I got it’s free on NHS so they are working with a clinic is San Jose who from what I have read are funding the tests. I was lucky enough to be in a pilot area there are only two hospitals in UK doing it I believe. Kings and Medway. Apparently there are 5 women who’s tests have been affected and got the call today x

S1986york · 26/05/2020 11:38

That makes sense, I’m so sorry that your test has been affected. Xx

Worried134 · 26/05/2020 17:58

Well second blood test done. Have been told it’s a 16 day wait at the moment. Bring on time ticking slowly..........

Liveforholidays · 26/05/2020 20:40

How awful for you.. 😔 I've got everything crossed for you that it works this time. X

My wife is about 8-9 weeks. Got over some early complications (polypectomy) and things are looking good so far, but right now we’re freaking out about a hot bath I drew for her at about 5 weeks (didn’t know about NTD risk at the time). I’m up on the science now but would love to share stories to feel connected to others because I’m really scared I boiled my sweet innocent baby (this is our first child). Anyone here have stories to share (good or bad) relating to hot baths?

Missdrifter · 28/05/2020 08:41

Hi @ziek I wouldn’t worry too much at all, a lot of women don’t know they are pregnant until much later and therefore would still be enjoying hot baths. I also certainly had a fair few got baths in the first trimester as I was blissfully unaware that they are probably best avoided (I am now 32 weeks) I am not a medical professional so I can’t really comment on risks etc but in my opinion I really don’t think you have anything to worry about (and that’s coming from someone who has spent their pregnancy worrying about one thing after another) is your wife taking folic acid? If not then it’s good to start on that now.

Yes on the folate. Thanks very much this helps!

Hi,

I am new to this forum and my sister told me to download it for any help and advice.

This is my first pregnany, me and my partner have been trying for 5 years and eventually got pregnany through our 2nd attempt at ivf.

I recently went for my 12 week scan (12w5d) and had blood results come back to say we have a 1:11 chance of our baby have t21, down syndrome. I am 31, healthy, so not sure why the results are bad.

Our results were hcg- 1.82, nt- 1.11, papp a- 0.17.

We have told our midwife that under no circumstances do we want to do anything invasive to risk loosing the baby after waiting so long to get this far, and can't afford £400+ for the harmony test.

I suffer from pretty bad anxiety and have to wait another 6+ weeks for my 20 week scan.

Has anyone else been through this? And could offer support/help please x

S1986york · 04/06/2020 18:33

&katie070189 I’m so sorry to hear your news, I was given a 1:79 chance due to my blood result although I don’t know the numbers as didn’t want to worry myself even more. I like you suffer with extreme anxiety and couldn’t go through with the invasive cvs and amino so decided to go for the harmony test (I put it on my credit card) and i was told it was very accurate. I had to wait just over a week but it was worth it to know I wasn’t putting the pregnancy at risk of Mc. The results came back very low risk and we we are having a boy. I was so relieved and thankful. I highly recommend this test as do a lot of other women on here. I hope you do what you think is best for you. Xx

Liveforholidays · 07/06/2020 15:15

Thought I'd update this thread as it was a real source of help and support over the past few months. I had a 1 in 13 chance of downs syndrome. Getting those results was the most awful time as it was so unexpected. I opted to pay privately for the NIPT test and it came back highly unlikely. I did however go through periods of doubt, especially when the consultant I was under said it was still just a screening test (which it is, but a highly accurate one!). I over analysed every scan, every post on the internet and googled for England! Well baby Joseph entered the world on 4th June. He is absolutely perfect in every way. My advice to you would be to belive in the scans, believe in the NIPT test results and try not to worry... Easy for me to say now. I've been so, so anxious about everything and I didn't need to be.

S1986york · 07/06/2020 16:32

@Liveforholidays congratulations! that is wonderful news, I am so happy for you all. Xx

Worried134 · 07/06/2020 20:14

@Liveforholidays ah was thinking of you wondering if you had the wee one 😊 CONGRATULATIONS 🥳 XX

Liveforholidays · 07/06/2020 21:53

Thank you.. Xx

Worried134 · 09/06/2020 23:45

Officially been 4 weeks since my first test and I’m going insane. Literally feel like I’m going to lose the plot. So if u missed my first post somehow my first test didn’t get tested in time so had to redo it. Need a fat glass of wine and a cigarette (haven’t even smoked for bloody years) instead I’ll have a decaf tea whilst I slowly go insane in the corner

labrinth1 · 13/06/2020 16:20

@Worried134 Did you get your results through?

I’m currently waiting on harmony results and only on day 4 of slowly going insane with worry. Not sure how you coped.

My odds of baby having DS based on the quad test alone (couldn’t have combined as baby wouldn’t behave) were 1:15. I’m 37 and this is my first baby after 2 years of trying and miscarrying twins last year at 10 weeks. Feel like I’m going mad with worry.

@Liveforholidays Thank you for posting your positive story. I helps so much to know all this worry can lead to a very happy ending 🤞🏼
