High risk

I have been told I'm in a high risk for down syndrome.

I have to go back on Thursday for the next blood test.

I'm 38 years old and nearly 18 weeks. So nervous and scared about the results and next steps!

Thank you @Liveforholidays I will take a look. I’m well aware this could not turn out how we would have liked but any positive stories are good to hear.

NoCallerID · 16/05/2020 21:09

@Momlin yes, he did have Omphalocele. His NT was 1.9mm at 11+4 so well within the range.

Momlin · 17/05/2020 12:10

I found my blood test levels
PAPP-A 0.58 Mom (is this low???)
BHcg - 4.5 MOm which i know is high
NT was 2.5 I’m was told this was in the normal range but after looking I’m thinking it’s on the higher side?
Does anyone know?

NoCallerID · 17/05/2020 12:56

The NT is fine, if it was over 3.5 it would be a concern.
The Papp-a is low, yes. It should be 1, same as the hcg.
When did they say to expect your results from the CVS?

Has anyone pointed out the ARC charity to you? It stands for antenatal results and choices. You can send them an email and I think they call you back if you want just to talk through things?

NoCallerID · 17/05/2020 12:56

@Momlin

Paranoidkaty · 17/05/2020 13:50

@Momlin virtually the same as my results!
Papp-a 0.6 hcg 5 and NT 2.1mm
My NIPT came back low risk but I didn’t have invasive testing.
All my scans have been normal since no soft markers at all seen.

Momlin · 17/05/2020 14:25

@NoCallerID thanks for replying.... what should the BHcg be?

I did take a look at ARC yesterday I think we are going to wait for our results next week from the cvs and contact them then depending on the outcome.

@Paranoidkaty thanks for replying hopefully my outcome is the same as yours x

Liveforholidays · 17/05/2020 14:42

@momlin the good news is that you made a decision about what to do and now what will be will be. If you've spent time scrolling through all of these posts you'll soon see that most women who get high risk results are then given the all clear. Whilst your papp a is low it is still within 'normal' range so you won't need to take aspirin or have the other worries associated with low papp a (below 0.4).

NoCallerID · 17/05/2020 14:53

@Momlin both should be 1.

NoCallerID · 17/05/2020 14:57

Oops sent that too early...

I think your levels are still at a point where you can have hope that things come back fine. They usually say for T21 the Papp-A is around 0.21, from there upwards they calculate the risk and combined with the higher HCG it gives you a greater risk.

That's good you looked at them already. They're a great place for people going through this awful limbo of waiting for results and not having many people to talk too.

Momlin · 17/05/2020 15:27

@Liveforholidays yeah I definitely trying to look in the positive side and clutch into the positive things. I’m already having to take aspirin due to having severe pre eclampsia with my first.

Thank you @NoCallerID fingers crossed. Could the high hcg levels be due to the fact I’m
Suffering with hypermerisis also?

NoCallerID · 17/05/2020 15:40

@Momlin I'm not sure to be honest, I thought it would be the high HCG that would cause HG and not the other way around? Did you have it in your first pregnancy?

Liveforholidays · 17/05/2020 15:45

I second speaking to ARC, they were so supportive.

Momlin · 17/05/2020 15:50

@NoCallerID
I had hypermerisis in my first pregnancy also but my hcg levels were never mentioned in any blood tests taken like this one .... I am almost 4 years older this pregnancy though in regards to screening.

Liveforholidays · 17/05/2020 19:21

@momlin I was told that age has such a massive impact on the screening tests. I was 1 in 127 on age alone. Throw in funny bloods and the chance increased massively. I think they try to cast the net as widely as possible to reduce the numbers that are missed. I was told by two different screening midwives and a lady from ARC that hormones are notoriously changeable so what may be strange one day may be normal the next. This is reassuring. If your nuchal measurement is within normal range that's a positive sign. We'll done for getting through the weekend. Not much longer to wait.

Momlin · 17/05/2020 19:26

@Liveforholidays thank you for your replies. I’m really struggling this evening and just thinking I’m not sure how I can go another 2 days of not knowing.

NoCallerID · 17/05/2020 20:43

@Momlin I'm sorry I have no experience with HG and don't want to randomly throw things at you I found on google.

The wait is terrible, every minute drags, sleep is basically non existent. I kept waking up thinking it was all a dream and cried through to the next morning. It's all an out of body experience but I really hope that your results come back fine and you can relax.

Liveforholidays · 17/05/2020 21:32

I agree. The waiting is the worst but you do and will get through it. Just celebrate getting through every hour and every day and allow yourself to cry. That's all I did for nearly two weeks solid waiting for the NIPT results.

Bigkingdom · 18/05/2020 10:40

11 days after having my NIPT test at the hospital i am still waiting for the results. I have a feeling i won’t be getting them today either.

S1986york · 18/05/2020 11:26

@Bigkingdom I would give the unit a call and see where they are at. I called on Friday and they assured me it would be today....I’m still waiting for mine. The anxiety is torture, I wouldn’t wish this on my word enemy. X

Bigkingdom · 18/05/2020 11:35

@S1986york i spoke to the screening midwife on Thursday and she said potentially today.

S1986york · 18/05/2020 11:46

@Bigkingdom I hope you get them today and the results are good, hang in there 🙏x

Momlin · 18/05/2020 12:06

@Bigkingdom and @S1986york thinking of you both. The waiting is torture Hopi g to have my Results tomorrow or Wed x

Missdrifter · 18/05/2020 12:16

Thinking of all of you waiting on your results and hoping you get good news very soon. The wait is awful x

Bigkingdom · 18/05/2020 14:47

I just had my results! I have a 1 in a million chance of baby having Down’s Syndrome or T18 or T13! Unfortunately the father isn’t happy with that and thinks we will be the 1 in a million wants to abort! I will not be doing that!!
