Chips need salt and vinegar not salt and brown sauce.

Ketchup is fine however.

LetThereBeRock · 10/06/2010 14:55

You can get crispy duck and crispy seaweed here.(Glasgow)

mozette · 10/06/2010 14:56

I'm not fussy about my chips - brown sauce/ketchup just as long as they're not too salty! Guess what I'm having for dinner now!!

UnquietDad · 10/06/2010 14:57

scanty - actually I am half Welshman!

bronze · 10/06/2010 14:59

This has turned into a horrible thread. Mad me really uncomfortable to read.

8Ace · 10/06/2010 15:00

Are you saying that Bank of Scotland notes are not legal tender anywhere then!!! Why do they get made then....the world has gone mad.

mozette · 10/06/2010 15:00

why bronze?

Macdog · 10/06/2010 15:02

Personally I am fed up to the back teeth with the press and television attitude that England are superior to everyone else in the tournament of the moment.

I don't give a rat's ass about the bloody World Cup, and would rather not have to hear about the feckin' thing AT ALL!

I am annoyed by sweeping generalisations (like the one made by the OP) that ALL Scots are against England. It is that sort of attitude that leads us to say 'Feck you' and support 'Anyone but England'

I am also irritated beyond belief when people (ie supporters/media) think that the Union Jack is the English flag - no it isn't.

Oh yes, and the anthem "God Save the Queen" is supposed to be the anthem for GREAT BRITAIN , so why the HELL are England allowed to use it for English only games

RRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!!!

UnquietDad · 10/06/2010 15:03

Michael Macintyre does a very funny sketch about Scottish currency.

8Ace · 10/06/2010 15:03

mmmm brown chippy sauce its the best. I'm hungry now.

I though I would share a wee traditional scots song which all young children are taught in scottish schools.

Ahem (to the tune of Scotland the Brave)

Land of the the tartan granny
great big tits and a hairy fanny
tra la la la la la forgot the rest of the words.

Agree Bronze. It started out OK.

Anniebee65 · 10/06/2010 15:05

Why Bronze? I personally think it's good to air these issues and try to understand the basis for them.

These passions can be quite parochial. My dad would die rather than support Dublin in a Gaelic football game for example.

He loves Dublin people, just not when they play football apparently.

We are still allowed to use £1 notes up here!

I can always remember when a wee lass being asked by english people if we had tv's!! It it happend now I would reply "aye a great big one paid with by benefits from the english tax payer" heh heh

noyoucant · 10/06/2010 15:14

Altinkum, technically it is not 'legal tender'. See the link I posted above.

8Ace, while they aren't 'legal tender' anywhere in the UK, even in Scotland itself, they work on the same principle as any banknote. If sellers will accept them in practice then they effectively become legal tender anyway. But shops don't have to accept them. Most will, in order to get/keep your business. And of those that don't it's mostly due to ignorance about the validity of the notes.

EddieIzzardismyhero · 10/06/2010 15:17

That's really . I certainly wasn't denying it happened, just that my Scottish friends living in the SE don't encounter it (and it's something we do discuss, esp around times like the World Cup).

As for playing God Save the Queen - hear hear! Not only is it the British anthem, it is also bloody awful dirge. I for one would love to have a decent English anthem - any suggestions?

8Ace · 10/06/2010 15:18

Here's one my bf's mum used to sing to him as a child.

all of a sudden
a big yelley pudden
came flying through the air.
It hit Mr Spock ae stot on the cock
and knocked him doon the stair.

Oh god help me i'm meant to be cleaning the bathroom!! Stop distracting me.

Megatron · 10/06/2010 15:20

I'm Scottish, live in England. And I don't give a shiny one about the bloody world cup.

noyoucant · 10/06/2010 15:21

I'm Irish, EddieIzzardismyhero, but even I find Jerusalem uplifting and think it would make an excellent English anthem.

Scottishandproud · 10/06/2010 15:25

It always used to make me laugh years ago that whenever an English sportsperson did good the "English sportsperson" was praised very highly, but if a Scottish sportsperson did good the "British sportsperson" was praised very highly. I don't class myself as British I'm Scottish and proud and will never support England, why should I? I am SCOTTISH, and anyone who says that they are English and support Scotland are having a laugh.

EddieIzzardismyhero · 10/06/2010 15:25

Jerusalem would be great!

Tbh, Spice up your Life would do!!

Just anything but the bloody national anthem - it is soooooo awful! Makes me want to weep every time I hear it - and not in a "ohmigod, I feel so emotional cos it's our national anthem" type way!

LetThereBeRock · 10/06/2010 15:26

I like Billy Connolly's suggestion of the theme from The Archers.

OrmRenewed · 10/06/2010 15:28

I like Jerusalem too.

OrmRenewed · 10/06/2010 15:28

Possibly sung to the Archers theme.
