Night night!

Vallhala · 10/06/2010 22:53

I don't get it. A fervent football fan and England supporter I'd always cheer Scotland on when they played (unless it was against England of course!). Likewise it's fingers crossed for Canada as I have Canadian relatives and even cheers for the Ivory Coast, who I've no connection with save for the fact that my team's Drogba plays for them.

Can't see why it's necessary to get 'upset' about supporting another nation when it doesn't deflect from your own team's involvement in the match.

leavingonajetplane · 10/06/2010 23:06

"when David Cameron said in the Commons yesterday that the England flag would fly above Downing Street for the World Cup, he also said that he hoped ALL the benches would support England (ie Scotland, Ireland and Wales as well)"

You and David Cameron mean Northern Ireland, surely MintHumbug?

expatinscotland · 11/06/2010 01:51

Well, no surprises here, I'm supporting America. It's a good team. They qualified.

Beyond that, in my heart of hearts, GO MEXICO!

They've had such a hard time, as a nation, oh, no one in the UK would even get it. I hope they never have to.

It's so bad, it's so heartbreaking.

So many dead, so many brutally murdered, for the snow in July.

Mexico has been able to try to take a stand, I pray to the Virgen de Guadalupe it lasts, don't let Mexico fall, Madre!

But this has been a rallying point. Their team.

This is the real Mexico. GO! I hope they go all the way! If they did, well, oh, it would mean SO much!

So if it were my neck on the line, I'd say, Viva Mexico!

Yes what is that man-roar? It's so irritating!

I think the beeb has improved since 1998 when that report was issued damning its news coverage for being too London-centric. My perspective on it is swayed because I live in London, but I think they're moving in the right direction.

Which scottish team do your family support OP? Because rangers fans tend to support england and often have union jack flags etc, so if your family are celtic supporters then that would have something to do with it.

I'm scottish and I want germany to win. I don't have anything against England, but I don't have to support them in the world cup, they are not scotland after all.

I also think that lots of people don't like the england side because some of the horrible hooligan fans who let the side down for everyone.

Finally, I do have friends who will support anyone england is playing against but it's just a bit of a joke.

glasgowmandy · 11/06/2010 08:50

my family are rangers supporters, who i think are actually worse, just look what happened in manchester that was embarrasing!!

I'm English but live in Scotland and I don't support any football team. Who wants to watch a load of overgrown schoolboys chasing a football around a field for 90 minutes?,not me.

SimonCowellIsSatan · 11/06/2010 09:00

LOL! Well I guess the attitude towards my opinion just backs up my feelings about Scotland!

I live in a hugely patriotic area, and no I actually can't move. Even as recently as last month I had my tyres slashed on the car for "being an English bastard" and I even had some vile cretin spit at my son when he was two years old and tell us to "fuck off back home". This has gone on and on and on all my life because I don't sound local! (the town near where I live has many druggies in who can barely communicate when they're on a high)

OK I apologise the country isn't an arsehole, it has many beautiful aspects.I should have made it clear it is in fact many of the PEOPLE who are arseholes.

But if that makes me a biggot then send me to the gallows!

expatinscotland · 11/06/2010 09:04

'no I actually can't move.'

Last I checked, unless you're under house arrest, people are capable of free movement in the UK.

So where there's a will, there's a way.

But of course, it's cheaper and easier to just moan about things.

OK well I'll tell my OH to get a new job shall I? Or I could just split the familly up?

Expat, I am delighted you had a job or husband easy to relocate, not all of us do! But you carry on trying to make me feel it's me in the wrong....you'll be at it a while!

I am still not over the French team from 8years ago - Emmanuelle Petit etc.
Every one of them was fit.
I would support Ross County if it came to choose a team or get a Chinese Burn.

'Expat, I am delighted you had a job or husband easy to relocate, not all of us do!'

Oh, yes, it's so easy to do! I just snapped my fingers and it all happened like that.

So you hate where you live and you expect it to be easy to get out? Okay.

Hey, it's your life. I happen to feel mine's too short to spend in a place where I'm as miserable as you are in yours. So, though it's been very hard work and required a huge amount of sacrifice and time, if ever we found ourselves in a place we hated, we've made an effort to move out rather than just make excuses why we 'can't'.

mozette · 11/06/2010 09:24

I agree with Altinkum, Simon for your own sanity I would move, I'm sure not the whole local area is full of druggies and bigots. Its awful that you have to be subjected to this but please please don't tar all Scots with the same brush as these bawbags

expatinscotland · 11/06/2010 09:27

Exactly, Altin. We once lived in one of the most deprived estates in Edinburgh. It took a year of us swapping out shifts so we could both work and not have to pay childcare, but we did it to save money for a deposit and a man with a van to get out of there and rent someplace else.

Right now, we're in a flat that's not good for our family, so again, we eat a lot of beans and drink a lot of water to pay off debt and save the money to get out.

It's not fun, it's not easy, it's very expensive, but, barring disability, it's always a possibility.
