AIBU Books Game Part Seven

CJCregg · 27/05/2010 17:52

Hi all, here we are again ...

As always, everyone welcome to pile in with AIBU book synopses, as long as you bring ice cream or something equally tempting for when we're stuck.

To continue mine - I'm in charge but it's terribly difficult to keep control. I don't know how long I can keep their respect. I didn't ask to be in charge ...

Hmm... definitely not ringing any bells here!

I love looking through the Mills & Boon books at the local library - they are always selling them off for 10p and they have the most amazing titles, like "The Passionate Sheik's Virgin Bride". Might have to actually read one one day, just to see what it's like!

The Gerald Durrell book is one of his novels - it's not exactly great literature and is terribly un-PC but I love it.

AIBU to employ this woman because I fancy her?

Poledra · 14/07/2010 23:12

Evening all! Have been lost in RL (including in a different time zone for a while!) but it doesn't make much difference - I still have no idea what you're all talking about (BTW, 4.5 yo DD2 is getting into telling jokes. What do you call a deer with no eyes? Bertie, apparently. Then you laugh hysterically at your own joke............. )

Will admit to reading Mills and Boon when studying for finals (flatmates and I thought it would prevent us wasting time reading something other than lecture notes - nooooooooooooo, we just wasted time slagging the books off to each other!). However, am delighted to say that none of the storylines have stuck

MCP!

tortoiseonthehalfshell · 15/07/2010 06:48

Hmm, steamed, that doesn't sound like a terribly good idea. What would her job description be?

CJ, a nighttime walk can be Healthful and full of Lifegiving Properties. Or you might get eaten by a werewolf. Which is more likely, do you think?

God I'm reading such trash recently. Not quite M&B, but nothing I can bring myself to bring to AIBU. Umm.

AIBU to mourn my nice bathroom?

Pogleswood · 15/07/2010 07:51

Morning,and MCP!

Pol,we still remember DD at that stage telling us a similiar joke(totally un-joined up thinking..) - then telling her friend later in the day - what was so killingly funny was that the friend thought DD's "joke" was hysterically amusing too,and we had them both laughing their heads off!

steamedtreaclesponge · 16/07/2010 11:01

Morning, all!

MCP!

...Her job - well, it kind of varies depending on what I'm up to. I try and keep her behind a desk because she's always getting into trouble...

Pogleswood · 16/07/2010 16:29

OK,Treacle - are you a private detective hiring a receptionist? Is she hell bent on changing your life and forcing you to buy a new sofa? Or (more likely!) not?

Tortoise, any hints as to what might have happened to your bathroom would be appreciated!

...so,I've agreed to marry my doctor - but now he wants us to get married straight away. And we agreed we would wait - I love my job, they've trained me, I can't just leave...

CJCregg · 17/07/2010 08:59

No werewolves, tortoise, but it could be dangerous, so I'm told. I'm not scared, though!

How is everyone? RL is taking over a bit here - I'm moving in a few weeks - but I've been neglecting thread a bit so am determined to put a bit more time in. We need our regular thread-tender back. Anyone heard from Moomin?

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 18/07/2010 17:21

Nope,no idea on any of this.. for some reason I have Rosie's Walk stuck in my head for your walk,CJ - goodness knows why as it is quite some time since I read anything like that, and it didn't even happen at night ....

I was just wondering how Moomin was too,I hope that the enforced cold turkey from MN hasn't broken the AIBU books habit.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 18/07/2010 20:17

Sounds ok, CJ, unless you're particularly huntable? Or going somewhere with the name "Forbidden" before it, which isn't always a great idea.

Mmm, tortoise, you weren't interrupted by the verruca gnome were you? No one likes that little blighter.

Erm, yours sounds familiar treacle, but not familiar enough! Does she carry a pistol?

...I suppose I'll have to get by without my missing item of footware, listening to my two lovely sisters playing the flute will probably distract me anyway...

CJCregg · 19/07/2010 23:28

I'm not huntable and it's not Forbidden, sorry. But my dad did say not to go out there ...

OP posts:
tortoiseonthehalfshell · 20/07/2010 07:22

Has something awful happened to a family member on a night walk, CJ?

I don't think anything's happened to my nice bathroom, per se, it's just that we'd only just got it all lovely and now we're moving. I'm tempted to hide the hairbrush in retaliation.

Pogleswood · 20/07/2010 17:29

Oh,I can't do these!

Are you going alone,CJ?
tortoise,the hairbrush is significant,is it??

...I am going to dig my heels in - we redheads can be pretty feisty...

CJCregg · 21/07/2010 11:30

I am going on my own, yes. It's quite windy and snowy, but I'm going to be brave.

Clues, please! Tortoise, I don't know what yours is but it's pretty reminiscent of my life! Every time I get a new bathroom ...

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 21/07/2010 11:52

Morning, all!

...No, she's not a receptionist, although I do get her to do desk work sometimes. At least if she's under my eye she won't be out consorting with criminals...

I'm moving next month too, CJ - not fun! Should probably start packing now given the amount of crap I seem to have amassed over the years

MCP!

Pogleswood · 21/07/2010 12:12

What's with all this moving then? (I'm from a long line of non-movers myself!)Hope it goes smoothly for you both.

Well,if she's not a receptionist I'm stuck again,Treacle,
MCP,all!

You're not out on the prairie,by any chance,CJ??

steamedtreaclesponge · 21/07/2010 15:07

I've had 4 houses in the last 5 years

But this time I'm going travelling so I just have to bung the lot in storage and palm the cats/plants etc off on my friends for a while

...I should probably stop lending her cars, though, they always seem to come to a sticky end. I can't count how many Porsches she's written off...

CJCregg · 21/07/2010 16:02

treacle, yours is starting to sound familiar. Not familiar enough, though

I'm moving from rented to rented, dammit. Can't find anywhere to buy. And my landlords put this house up for sale, so I've got to move on. I yearn for my own house, so I can paint the walls the colours I like and not care if the kids stick posters up in their rooms ...

I'm not in the prairie, no, Pogle - I'm in a deep, dark wood!

OP posts:
CJCregg · 21/07/2010 16:03

PS treacle, travelling sounds so exciting! Where are you going? Will you be abandoning us for a literal raft on an ocean, rather than a literary one?

(see what I did there?)

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 21/07/2010 17:29

V.clever,CJ! Yes,do tell us more,treacle.

They both sound familiar, but not familiar enough...CJ,are you an animal?

MCP!
(I've given up on mine - my heart wasn't really in it - but it is googleable if anyone wants to bother!)

steamedtreaclesponge · 21/07/2010 21:49

You're not in that deep, dark wood, are you CJ? Don't remember any snow in that one though...

Hmm, no luck googling yours Pogle

I can't wait to go travelling - I'm taking the train from London to Ulaan Bataar, going riding/camping in the mountains on the Chinese border for a couple of weeks before taking the train on to Beijing, popping down to Hong Kong to stay with some friends for a week or so and then taking the train up to Tibet before finishing off with a month or so trekking in Nepal.

...not to mention blowing up the funeral parlour...

We are lacking in refreshments at the moment, aren't we?

Gin, anyone?

Pogleswood · 21/07/2010 22:16

Wow,Treacle - that sounds like quite some trip!

tortoiseonthehalfshell · 22/07/2010 06:03

...CJ, I know, it's my life too! I mean, I really thought this would be it, after we had the place nice and done up, and the hot water installed properly. I never had a nice bathroom growing up, it was all cold water, and then the grotty flat, so this was important, dammit. But last night my husband came home and told me we were moving to a bigger place, and guess what, that one needs to be done up as well. There's nothing I can do about it, though, can I? I mean, he earns more, and he is the husband...

steamedtreaclesponge · 22/07/2010 10:08

Sounds like your husband is being a bit U to me, tortoise! MCP!

Yes, Pogle, I am definitely all those things... fancy a whiff of my Bulgari shower gel?

And are you Sue Barton, Student Nurse?

I've never done that kind of travelling before, or been to most of those places - and I can't wait! Given how much I've got going on at the moment, I think a week sitting on the train doing nothing is exactly what I need...

Poledra · 22/07/2010 10:13

CJ, 'deep dark wood' makes me think of The Gruffalo, but I can't make it fit with any of your other clues.

Oh oh, hang on, are you the Gruffalo's Child??

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 22/07/2010 13:08

No idea on any of this. Why don't I read books with nurses and car-crashing redheads in?

...my life would be complete, if only I had another boot, having only one is so sad...
