AIBU Books Game Part Seven

CJCregg · 27/05/2010 17:52

Hi all, here we are again ...

As always, everyone welcome to pile in with AIBU book synopses, as long as you bring ice cream or something equally tempting for when we're stuck.

To continue mine - I'm in charge but it's terribly difficult to keep control. I don't know how long I can keep their respect. I didn't ask to be in charge ...

Morning, all!

...my uncle thinks this dam is a really good idea, but I think it'll cause all sorts of problems for Zenkali...

MCP everyone!

Not really a Pimm's sort of day today... what's an appropriate drink for clouds?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 07/07/2010 23:09

hot chocolate. with cream. and marshmallows.

no idea about uncles. We need more AIBUs. Ones I can do, preferably

...Oh, I'm not naked, that would be highly inappropriate when surrounded by all these people and animals, there's just one thing missing...

steamedtreaclesponge · 08/07/2010 10:15

Yes, where is everyone these days? I blame summer - all this going outside and playing can't be good for your health...

MCP!

Pogleswood · 08/07/2010 11:05

Well,I'm here (though I should actually be doing paperwork...)but totally uninspired AIBUwise at the moment.
I agree,Treacle - people are obviously out having fun in the fresh air when they could be hunched up over their computers - what is the world coming to!
I am actually going to go and do paperwork now,but will be back.

steamedtreaclesponge · 08/07/2010 12:20

Fun? Huh. Chance would be a fine thing

I think I need to read some more, I'm running out of AIBUs to do!

Pogleswood · 08/07/2010 13:20

Poor Treacle! But you were off having fun relatively recently...
I am paying the price for not having done my accounts earlier in the year when it wasn't nice outside!

AIBU to put my job before my private life?

steamedtreaclesponge · 09/07/2010 11:20

i KNOW

sigh

Sounds like you might be a bit U, are you a policeman by any chance?

Pogleswood · 09/07/2010 12:17

...Not,not a policeman - a nurse actually...

tortoiseonthehalfshell · 09/07/2010 12:38

Here you all are! I haven't seen you lot in ages. Do you know, this is the first thread I ever posted on on Mumsnet, all the way back in late last year the Dark Ages?

Anyway. Ahem. Is there still some Pimms? It's 9pm here, very civilised hour for it.

Pogles, how is your job geting in the way?

And, because I am Highly Intellectual in my current reading, AIBU to be unfaithful to my husband?

Pogleswood · 09/07/2010 12:54

Hello Tortoise!
I do feel fidelity is v.important in marriage - what's the problem?
This was the first thread I posted on as well - it sucked me in...

...it isn't as if it is a permanent choice - but I do feel that it is what I should do now...

(and mine is also Highly Intellectual - not!)

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 09/07/2010 12:55

Well, some would say so tortoise (nice to see you btw - i think this was my first thread too )...but it depends whether the person you're cheating with is worth it really? He's not going to dump you and leave you with a shopping addiction is he?

...it's not a hat, the problems much further down than that actually. In fact, I shouldn't really be complaining about it, what with all the other nice things I've got. The education of these rather obese birds of prey should probably be my first priority. Or perhaps catering to my unusually hued stegosaurus...

tortoiseonthehalfshell · 09/07/2010 13:13

I already have a shopping addiction, I think. He's so rarely home and the children can't take up all of my time, spending money is one of my few consolations.

And the OM is dreamy. Dark brooding eyes, etc.

Pogles, how is the job getting in the way, though? is it taking up all of your time?

Elephants, I suspect you of being a children's book.

CJCregg · 09/07/2010 14:00

Hi all!

I have no idea what anyone is talking about

Just popping in to say this was my first thread, too, I think. Before this, I used to come on MN about once a week, feel a bit lost and leave again ...

Elephants, is it shoes you're missing?

Tortoise, are you given to running about on the moors? (And by the way, where are you if it's 9pm?)

OP posts:
ElephantsAndMiasmas · 09/07/2010 14:39

Well, he sounds rather dishy, tortoise . Tell me more about him

You would be right, tortoise.

almost, CJ (BTW watched the episode where Simon got shot again the other day, and spent all morning feeling sad about it. I am obviously crazed. And worried that CJ - the other one - will end up with that diminutive homunculus of a reporter)

NI about anyone else's... more please!

tortoiseonthehalfshell · 09/07/2010 14:55

CJ, Australia.

He is dishy, which I'm sure was still an appropriate word in 1980. Comes across all dark and brooding but actually very caring and understanding. And after living with my husband for so long, a little understanding goes a long way.]

Ok, it's past my bedtime, I will come back and solve all the mysteries tomorrow. Or, you know. Not do that.

CJCregg · 09/07/2010 15:10

Tortoise, does he have Romany blood? And a rather dull, dumpy wife who clearly doesn't understand him? Was he terribly understanding when your PFB was in hospital?

Elephants, I love that episode. Hallelujah and poor, poor Simon, and Bartlet deciding to kill Sharif. Wow. Sorry, back to the thread.

MCP!

OP posts:
ElephantsAndMiasmas · 09/07/2010 15:11

Well, how nice. He doesn't work for you, of course?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 09/07/2010 15:13

x post CJ. It's a terrifying episode. Nothing sadder than everything going wrong just when it was going right. why do tv writers do this to us? did you ever watch green wing (totally different but similar pattern)?

steamedtreaclesponge · 09/07/2010 20:19

Wow... I go away for an afternoon and look what happens!

And hello tortoise, welcome back!

Think this was the first thread I posted on too...

MCP everyone!

tortoiseonthehalfshell · 10/07/2010 12:53

He does, CJ. Excellent work. You are clearly as Highly Intellectual as I am.

CJCregg · 12/07/2010 13:00

I got one, I got one! (Thought I saw you on the Jilly thread, tortoise , and of course I'm as intellectual as you are!)

No idea on anyone else's, though.

(Elephants, I loved Green Wing but I don't think I'd go back to it with quite the same sense of love and loyalty to the characters that I have for WW. Just watched 'Gaza' and it made me cry - again.)

Ok, back to business. AIBU to go for a nighttime walk?

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 13/07/2010 15:38

So what was it?

Doesn't sound U, CJ, but are you an unaccompanied lady or a child?

Did everyone give up on mine? I think I got a bit bored with it and stopped doing clues...

Pogleswood · 13/07/2010 21:21

I don't know what it is either...
I did google yours,Treacle, but got evicted from the computer before I had a chance to post - can't remember if you were BU or not!

I think I'm stuck on mine - I was going to do it as "AIBU to want to marry a doctor",perhaps I should have gone with that.

steamedtreaclesponge · 14/07/2010 10:39

Hmm... no idea on yours, Pogle, I'm afraid; it does sound a little like a Mills & Boon called "Her Surgeon Lover" or something but I suspect I'm on the wrong track!

Mine was The Mockery Bird by Gerald Durrell and no, I wasn't being U!

Now to think of a new one...

Pogleswood · 14/07/2010 12:09

A Gerald Durrell I've never read - or indeed heard of....

Mills and Boon? Never! One has to draw the line somewhere, you know, and I draw it at Mills and Boon!

...I don't want to be a cliche - and nurses marrying doctors is a bit cliched, isn't it? But I've liked him ever since he rescued me from the hospital basement on my first day of training...
