Hi all, here we are again ...

As always, everyone welcome to pile in with AIBU book synopses, as long as you bring ice cream or something equally tempting for when we're stuck.

To continue mine - I'm in charge but it's terribly difficult to keep control. I don't know how long I can keep their respect. I didn't ask to be in charge ...

Moomin, why are you up?!

Still NI on yours, sorreeee...

...Not really a stomach ache, just a bit annoyed with this famine or feast situation..

Pogleswood · 02/10/2010 19:35

Don't you guys ever sleep??

Moomin, are we back with Jack Aubrey et al again?
Not that I've managed to read any of them yet, although they have made it as far as my Amazon wish list....

MCP!

Are you human,Elephants?

AIBU to stay here?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 02/10/2010 23:28

Hi Pogle

Actually I have barely slept for about a fortnight, gaaah. Am off to bed in a tick though.

Why do you want to stay? Are others, your family maybe, encouraging you to leave?

...Yes I'm human. Not that I'm being treated like one at the moment, more like livestock...

MoominMymbleandMy · 03/10/2010 01:42

Hooray, have a half-drowned pot plant, Pogle. Grin It was Post Captain, this time.

I'm so pleased Patrick O'Brian has made it to your wish-list. AF adored the Aubrey/Maturin series and was planning for it to be a discovery of Nicola's in a later book. I adore it and whenever I pick up one of them I invariably end up re-reading the entire series.

Are you about to be invaded, Pogle? Oh, and I am just a natural night owl, but I think Elephants is definitely outdoing me lately for silly bedtimes.

MCP on the unbalanced diet!

Pogleswood · 03/10/2010 10:21

Excellent,a lovely plant!

Maybe sometime soon I'll have time to actually read one of them,Moomin...

You are not-at-all U to want to live on an island - my most favorite book when I was little was a story about a little old man who lived on a little island, all alone - until a boat washed up with cats aboard. He lived in the boat and grew vegetables and talked to the cats and I thought it sounded just idyllic!( I do wonder a bit about my young self Grin)

Are you a prisoner,then,Elephants?

Not being invaded ,and no-one is exactly encouraging me to leave,

...I don't really see any reason to leave now.I know it is a bit gloomy here...

MCP!

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 03/10/2010 20:06

Are you all by yourself Pogle? Are you in the real human world?

...Yes I'm a prisoner, and while the food is great I'm getting pretty concerned about the future...

Pogleswood · 04/10/2010 07:02

Yes,all by myself,alone...and I am in the real human world,(now).

Are you alone,Elephants, apart from your captors, that is?

MCP!

MoominMymbleandMy · 04/10/2010 11:53

Morning, all!

I like the sound of your book about the cats, the island and the little old man, Pogle. Except, perhaps, for the living on vegetables part. Do you remember the name of it, by any chance?

MCP, both of you!

AIBU to think if you stuff your best beloved toy car behind a radiator when you have been warned not to do so, you should not throw a major wobbly when your mother's repeated attempts to fish it out with a coat hanger are unsuccessful - this is RL, not a book!

...Everyone seems to think I am U. Well, every real estate agent, anyway...

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 04/10/2010 18:09

...there's someone else here other than my captor, but there's nothing she can do to help me, unless she comes up with some kind of clever plan...

Pogleswood · 04/10/2010 19:15

Evening!

Poor Moomin's DS! I used to hate it when that happened, particularly as poking behind the radiator with a coat hanger used to bring to light all sorts of revolting stuff that, really, would have been best left undisturbed!

My book was called, rather unoriginally ,A Little Old Man Grin (No memory involved as I still have it.Author:Natalie Norton)
He fishes as well,so doesn't live entirely on vegetables!

Elephants, are your captors just inefficient or are you afraid you are being fed up now for a reason?

....I know winter is coming,and it's very quiet.They seem to think I don't look well,too...

MoominMymbleandMy · 05/10/2010 01:53

Evening, all!

Ooh, yes, Pogle, behind the radiator was Not Nice. Lots of dust bunnies and cobwebs.

It ended happily because DH grovelled under the radiator when he got home and rescued the best beloved toy car. And DS was so happy he gave me the 'thank you' kiss and hug, which just shows you how rarely virtue is rewarded.Grin

Elephants, do you fear you are destined for the cooking pot?

Pogle, can you actually move?

Probably way off beam with both of those but never mind.

Oh yes, mine.

...When I ask them if they can find me a furnished house to rent on one of my chosen islands they just tell me: "There's a war on!" As if I hadn't noticed...

Pogleswood · 05/10/2010 17:13

Hello again!

I can move, yes - there doesn't seem to be much point, though, after what she did...

Are you hoping to move to one of the Channel Islands,Moomin?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 06/10/2010 11:12

Indeed I do Moomin! Thankfully my captor susects nothing of my state of oven-readiness, but her impatince may get the better of her...

Pogle - that sounds most sad. Are you in exile? Or just heartbroken?

Poledra · 06/10/2010 11:16

Oooh, look what just popped up in Active Convos!! What have I missed? Anything to eat/drink??

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 06/10/2010 11:36

I've got some peanut butter cups? :o

Hi Pol!

Pogleswood · 06/10/2010 11:47

This is the raft,Pol - there is always something to eat! Have a chocolate digestive.... Smile As to whether you've missed anything - have you met Treacle's lamb,Pointless?
I just hope this thread is never used to establish our sanity,or lack of it! Grin

....I am heartbroken - she was so beautiful, and she said that she loved me...

I thought perhaps you were in line to be eaten ,Elephants - but as you are both human and alone I am completely stuck on who you might be! The someone else that is with you, is she human too?

Poledra · 06/10/2010 11:49

I am sure that Elephants' captor is desperate for something savoury - living a house full of, nay, made of sweetmeats would put one off sugary stuff, amd make you crave a nice roast.

Mmmm, peanut butter cups - do you know how bad they are for you?

Poledra · 06/10/2010 11:51

Oh, and I haven't made the acquaintance of Pointless - can someone explain the back story please?

Pogleswood · 06/10/2010 12:25

Oooooh.Yes,that makes perfect sense ,Pol!

Back story....ok!

Well,Treacle has gone off travelling, originally taking her lamb, won as a prize just before she went, with her. Then she popped back to visit and left the lamb to be looked after here,so it is now living on the raft, originally on a lamb unfriendly diet of cake etc,but now,IIRC,on grass found for it by llandb. It is a little stressed, poor thing, because a certain poster has been making some rather unkind allusions to mint sauce etc.
It has now been christened Pointless, inspired by Cold Comfort Farm.

All clear? Grin

(unfortunately this thread has left me without a leg to stand on as far as teasing DD about her on-line life goes!)

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 06/10/2010 13:16

Well that sounds irreproachably sensible, Pogle :o

Think you missed the bit where Moomin did an AIBU about combing lambs and we were all a bit worried about how Pointless would fare in his/her/its makeover.

Poledra- congratulations!! Yes she is making gravy noises but I'm sure my clever sister will find a way to get us out of here.

Why do you speak ill of the humble peanut butter cup? So small, yet so calorific delicious.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 06/10/2010 13:20

Pogle...so sorry to hear about your romantic mishap. So now you're heartbroken and somewhere very cold...I don't suppose a little girl might come and rescue you at some point?

MoominMymbleandMy · 06/10/2010 13:28

Afternoon, all and hi Pol, good to see you!Smile

Pogleswood · 06/10/2010 16:24

That's no help at all,Moomin!

By the way,I have this very day bought Post Captain in a second hand shop Smile

I am not a neglected toy,and I think the chance of being rescued by a little girl is remote...more likely I think that one of my companions in arms will find me and tell me to toughen up...

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 06/10/2010 16:46

Moomin - I just read that as waiting to see if CJ was going to beatify Pointless :)

The Lamb of God and all that - I think there's precedent.

So you're a soldier who's determined to wait out the winter due to heartbreak, even thought you're looking peaky?

Doesn't sound like that great an idea to be honest Pogle...
