AIBU Books Game Part Seven

Hi all, here we are again ...

As always, everyone welcome to pile in with AIBU book synopses, as long as you bring ice cream or something equally tempting for when we're stuck.

To continue mine - I'm in charge but it's terribly difficult to keep control. I don't know how long I can keep their respect. I didn't ask to be in charge ...

They weren't entirely boring years, Spacehoppa. I remember lots of fun bits. Grin Only they weren't generally in the lecture halls.

Pogle, your lack of official Eng Lit credentials most certainly doesn't show, and CJ, that is the most flattering comment anyone has made about me in ages!

Is it me or is the lamb turning a bit green?

...He's going to work as an assistant in return for board, lodging and book learning. Now, I know his master's a clever man and he plays the flute like an angel, but there's no denying he's a bit odd...

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 24/09/2010 02:22

you've got me mystified there, Moomin!

Both about the rotting snail (poor snail) and the weird flute player.

Will he be helping him with something occult?

MoominMymbleandMy · 24/09/2010 11:23

Morning all,

Not to worry, Elephants, the demise of the snail in the bottle of ginger beer is famous for giving the unwitting imbiber a nasty tummy upset and launching the tort of negligence. So his death wasn't in vain.

...Still, it is quite something for a 10-year-old to become a doctor's assistant...

Is it just mine still running?

llandb · 24/09/2010 16:07

Hi, Treacle - have some cake to put your carrots in

MCP, you lot! (Shudders at snail's demise)

Off to discover giant house spiders' lairs among tottering piles - see you when back in AIBU land

Pogleswood · 25/09/2010 10:49

All gone quiet again?

So,Moomin, googling leads me to the conclusion that not only does this doctor play the flute like an angel, but that he is also able to talk to the animals, yes?

I was amazed to find that out because I don't remember any of that from the books!

Anyone else still running??

steamedtreaclesponge · 25/09/2010 14:12

Ah - pipped to the post by Pogle! I'm sure your son will be safe with the great man, Moomin.

Elephants, in that case I think we just missed each other - I left 6 years ago

I must confess, though, I spent very little time in libraries of any description and didn't go to a single lecture for the whole of my second year Blush

Although thinking about it, I'm sure that's fairly standard for Eng Lit students...

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 25/09/2010 15:48

Hate to let the thread down but as I'm stuck at page 10 of current book I may be some time :o

CJCregg · 25/09/2010 17:34

Will you stop talking about feeling old, FGS? I left university 20 years ago!

Treacle, I didn't go to a single lecture in my second year either. My tutor didn't know who I was. Had to do a hell of a lot of catching up in the 3rd year ...

Completely out of ideas - back later Smile

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 25/09/2010 18:07

That's made me feel better,CJ! Not that I left university 20 years ago....but nearer that than 3 or 6.
No lectures at all,for a whole year? Honestly - you arty types, you don't know you're born! Grin

Elephants, couldn't you AIBU the first 10 pages of your book then?!

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 26/09/2010 00:24

Alright, I feel positively infantile (better?) :o

Wish I had a better memory, I read so many blooming books but can never remember the detail!

Right...

AIBU to sleep with the doctor's wife?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 26/09/2010 00:27

(n.b. this isn't the "first ten pages" one)

MoominMymbleandMy · 26/09/2010 11:50

Also snorting at the idea of people feeling old because they left university three or six years ago!

Most students there now weren't even blimmin' born when I graduated!

Well done, Pogle and Treacle, I didn't think I could spin that one out much more because the instant I mentioned the horde of animals the cat would have been out of the bag with a vengeance.Grin

Sounds U on the face of it, Elephants. I shouldn't imagine the doctor will be too chuffed anyway. MCP!

AIBU to steal an attache case?

Pogleswood · 26/09/2010 12:19

Yes,I can't see that the doctor will be pleased - or has he brought it on himself by unreasonable behaviour? And is she keen to sleep with you,or do you have a long seduction ahead of you??

Moomin,do you feel you have a right to the attache case,or its contents?

MCP!

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 26/09/2010 12:53

...Well I don't think he has any right to be annoyed, as I got them together in the first place. And yes she is rather keen to continue sleeping with me...

MoominMymbleandMy · 26/09/2010 14:42

Hmm, are you a pet animal, Elephants? Otherwise, I have to say you do sound pretty U. MCP!

...There was nothing in it. She wasn't even using it because she's got a better one. And I did so want an attache case of my own...

Best of luck with moving the tottering piles, llandb, and hope to see you back soon. Smile

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 26/09/2010 15:20

...I'm not a pet animal, how dare you? I do however have several dogs of whom I am very fond. I must say the doctor has brought it on himself, it's what he signed up for after all..

CJCregg · 26/09/2010 17:14

Moomin, I know yours, it's making me itch I'm so close but I can't place it. Another itsy bitsy clue, please?

OP posts:
MoominMymbleandMy · 26/09/2010 17:21

I thought you might find it familiar, CJ.Wink

...We looked everywhere in the shops but they were far too expensive. And I'm tired of people being sorry for me. Losing the scholarship just made it worse...

You sound more and more U with each clue, Elephants! But I'm no nearer. MCP!

CJCregg · 26/09/2010 17:27

Grrrr ... still can't pin it down. Are you a Fossil?

OP posts:
ElephantsAndMiasmas · 26/09/2010 17:29

Ooh Moomin are you a rather vain schoolgirl? I am trying to put my finger on exactly which one though...

MoominMymbleandMy · 26/09/2010 17:29

Ooh, red hot, CJ!

...I'm not a Fossil but one of them used to write to me...

Wink
ElephantsAndMiasmas · 26/09/2010 17:31

I'm betting on a March CJ!

CJCregg · 26/09/2010 17:33

No, no, got it now - you're Holly Forbes Grin.

(Or are you Sorrel? Bugger!) Anyway, You Are From Curtain Up and I Claim My £5

OP posts:
CJCregg · 26/09/2010 17:34

Definitely Holly - just checked!

OP posts:
ElephantsAndMiasmas · 26/09/2010 17:37

OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD

There are Ballet Shoes sequels? Shock

...well I have a perfect right to sleep with whomever I want after all...
