AIBU Books Game Part Seven

Hi all, here we are again ...

As always, everyone welcome to pile in with AIBU book synopses, as long as you bring ice cream or something equally tempting for when we're stuck.

To continue mine - I'm in charge but it's terribly difficult to keep control. I don't know how long I can keep their respect. I didn't ask to be in charge ...

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 25/08/2010 21:50

do you think it might be a gift from god, treacle?

lemon drizzle please can't have chocolate as am thinking of bruce bogtrotter Envy

steamedtreaclesponge · 26/08/2010 10:48

Morning, all!

...No, it's a gift from our friend. It would help keep our family together, we're very sad at having to break up the home...

MoominMymbleandMy · 26/08/2010 11:02

Morning, all! Yummy, coffee cake!

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 26/08/2010 11:13

Morning! Is there a link to the most recent list? I keep stopping myself doing books because I think someone's already done them. Maybe even me Blush

steamedtreaclesponge · 26/08/2010 11:30

Ah, Elephants, I wouldn't worry - we're always repeating ourselves over here! Grin

Moomin, was he competing with a rather unusual sheepdog?

...Well, it turns out that our friend is actually a relation, so perhaps we can accept this money after all...

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 26/08/2010 11:54

ooh treacle! I bet you are right WRT sheepdogbeast.

do you think the money was obtained dishonestly?

AIBU to think they're not doing themselves any favours?

MoominMymbleandMy · 26/08/2010 12:01

Bang on the nose, Treacle! Have a pet lamb freshly rounded up by a very intelligent pig, as a prize.

Your one sounds fun but I'm still baffled. MCP all!

Elephants, I put the list for AIBU 6 on the end of that thread, but don't worry about repeats. It's fun to see how differently we all do the same books. Anyway, we'd run out if we didn't, and then we'd have to go and do something useful instead.

AIBU to be tired of living the same two days for the rest of my life?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 26/08/2010 12:16

ooh, that doesn't sound U at all, are they especially nice days?

...how's anyone supposed to take their cause seriously when they dress like that?

steamedtreaclesponge · 26/08/2010 12:22

That certainly doesn't sound unreasonable, Moomin - are they particularly boring days? How did this happen?

Elephants, what have they been up to?

...Well, we're happily settled now, but we still think there's some mystery about our friend's past. And she's gone off now to teach school...

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 26/08/2010 12:35

I never win anything as nice as a lamb

Pogleswood · 26/08/2010 13:04

I don't know any of these!

But I do seem to have progressed,if it is progress, from "no idea at all" to "oh,that sounds familiar"...

Sadly any chance of identifying Moomin's has been lost by overexposure to the Disney Channel and one particular episode containing that scenario...

Having said that,do you have to live the same days until you get them right?

...having a dog like that can be useful when I'm working - and it's good to have her as backup in the Park - what with the bears etc...

steamedtreaclesponge · 26/08/2010 13:41

Elephants, is this your new lady-love's CND group, perchance?

Still no idea on yours, Pogle & Moomin, MCP!

...we did hope she'd marry our brother, but he's gone off to India now without her...

MoominMymbleandMy · 26/08/2010 14:03

Ooh, to work as a missionary, Treacle?!

Still mystified about everything else. MCP!

...I'm there to help ensure nothing changes during those two days. The first one is a lovely, ordinary day. But the second one is horrific. I've lived it over and over and I dread it every time...

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 26/08/2010 14:23

Aargh missed the boat again - I had a feeling it was that but couldn't remember where the money thing came in. Amen so come indeed. ...Don't worry, treacle, she'll be happy soon with a nice homeless, scarred blind bigamist Grin

That's right, treacle. All this fence-cutting is all very well but if she turns up in tie-dyed crap instead of her nice sensible nurse's uniform then she can't expect anyone to take any notice!

steamedtreaclesponge · 26/08/2010 16:39

I know, Elephants. And their time would be much better employed writing protest letters on the bus, rather than singing those pointless songs!

Yep, that's the one, Moomin! Actually, writing about that has made me want to read the Eyre Affair again - such a genius book.

MCP!

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 26/08/2010 17:50

Absolutely, treacle, and reading the stock market report as a lullaby Grin Did you see the TV series of that?

MoominMymbleandMy · 26/08/2010 23:50

Jasper Fforde, ah yes, demented but pure genius. Imagine him let loose on the Marlows. Grin

Now, here are you and Treacle exchanging witty insights on your one, Elephants, and I
still have no blimmin' clue! Not doing well on Pogle's either, but at least that hasn't been guessed by anyone yet.

Anyone seen Polly about lately? I miss her celebrations.

MCP all!

...Maybe IABU. After all, the only alternative to reliving the same two days for the rest of my life is to go back to certain death...

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 27/08/2010 00:31

Evening all

It was Goggle Eyes by Anne Fine, Moomin. An excellent book, I highly recommend it to teenagers or slightly younger kids. Although it is mainly about wanting to kill your mum's boyfriend, so might not be for everyone :o

Yours sounds very intriguing Moomin, erm....still a mystery though, it sounds a bit valhalla-y but can't think of a book...

Pogleswood · 27/08/2010 09:06

Love Jasper Fforde, and he is one of the few authors DH and I both like!

Being realistic,I'm not expecting anyone to guess mine - but it is what I'm reading at the moment,so I thought I'd use it.

...If you are a small female private investigator there are times when having a very big dog is a help,Alaska can be a harsh place...

MCP,Moomin!

steamedtreaclesponge · 27/08/2010 10:21

Morning, everyone!

I must say, the service in this boat is exceptional Smile

Still no ideas on your one, Moomin, although it sounds most intriguing!

Pogle, is your dog a bit of a Mutt?

AIBU to wonder how we'll get home?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 27/08/2010 11:14

Have you been shipwrecked, treacle?

MoominMymbleandMy · 27/08/2010 14:19

Ah, Anne Fine, no wonder it meant nothing to me. After The Tulip Touch ( not recommended for cat lovers) I never opened another one!

Your Alaskan PI sounds fun, Pogle. I must look out for them.

MCP on not getting home, Treacle!

...So here I am on yet another Tuesday, sitting on a park bench at 8.45am and waiting for the first plane. I hate it and I'll never get used to it...

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 27/08/2010 14:32

Ooh I hated the Tulip Touch, but most of her stuff isn't like that. The granny project, google-eyes, the book of the banshee, step by wicked step - all great.

Was wondering about the teddy, but don't want it to get lonely

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 27/08/2010 14:53

"google-eyes" - that's why I've got, obviously!

Pogleswood · 27/08/2010 14:57

Can you get Lambchop teddies then??

Well done Treacle - I was going to offer a part wolf, part husky puppy as a prize, but think it might eat the lamb...how about a gold nugget?
I'm enjoying them, and the author has written lots!
