Hi all, here we are again ...

As always, everyone welcome to pile in with AIBU book synopses, as long as you bring ice cream or something equally tempting for when we're stuck.

To continue mine - I'm in charge but it's terribly difficult to keep control. I don't know how long I can keep their respect. I didn't ask to be in charge ...

Oh....thank you

Mothers can be irritating, it's true. What's she done to upset you?

MoominMymbleandMy · 22/08/2010 16:27

Afternoon, all!

Now all I can think of for your one is Old Harry's Game, Elephants, so MCP!

...She gave my son a doll!...

Pogleswood · 22/08/2010 18:19

A doll? So now the poor lad is doomed?! Did he want a doll,or did she think this up all on her own?

I thought originally that perhaps you had my job,Elephants - but I don't get to punish anyone! Grin
So,are you in Law Enforcement? Or a teacher?

MCP,and AIBU to love my dog?

MoominMymbleandMy · 22/08/2010 19:17

Sounds perfectly normal to me, Pogle. Is there any reason it should be U?

MCP all!

...I thought that shoebox contained new football boots, not a doll! He says he asked her for it, but still...

steamedtreaclesponge · 23/08/2010 09:53

Morning, all.

Move completed - I am now officially homeless! Hooray!

...She's the boss's daughter, I'm sure he won't approve, even if my friend is a good worker...

Moomin, does the doll have powers, at all?

MCP!

CJCregg · 23/08/2010 11:24

Hi all!

Still moving ... it's a long process Grin

Just popping in to say hello and MCP ...

Poledra · 23/08/2010 11:32

Mornin' all. Been on hols, just need to mark this when I see it so I can read it tonight when at home, rather than avoiding the screeds of emails I ought to be reading at work................

steamedtreaclesponge · 23/08/2010 11:54

Pol! Hello! Been anywhere nice?

Good luck with the rest of it, CJ... there's a nice cold G'n'T waiting for you in the boat when you're done!

Or would you rather have a ginger wine?

MoominMymbleandMy · 23/08/2010 15:43

Afternoon, all!

Nice to see you back, Pol. Hope you had a good holiday.

Good luck to all moving and homeless W-R Ls

MCP still!

...Powers! It's just a doll! And a very girly one. He does talk to it though, and he leaves gaps as though it answered him...

steamedtreaclesponge · 24/08/2010 10:16

Morning, all!

...he's good with horses, but I don't think that's enough to make him a desirable son-in-law. And they're very strict about women's honour down here in Mexico...

Pogleswood · 24/08/2010 16:37

Afternoon all!

Just as well we built the raft so big,if Treacle is actually going to live on it!

...my dog - no,well I don't think I'm BU - but she can be rather intimidating...

MCP!

MoominMymbleandMy · 24/08/2010 21:53

Evening, all!

So what's the bitch done then, Pogle? (couldn't resist Grin)

MCP on all of them!

...Now Ned's taken the wretched thing to school! No wonder he got into a fight...

steamedtreaclesponge · 25/08/2010 09:53

Ah... does this doll talk, perhaps? And is she a Lady? (Spot of googling required there...)

...Well, her father found out, and now we've been arrested for horse-stealing. I wonder if we'll ever make it back to Texas...

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 25/08/2010 11:01

ooooh, treacle/Moomin - she is a Lady isn't she! Damn I should have got that, love this book. She is so wonderfully aloof!

steamedtreaclesponge · 25/08/2010 11:39

I've never even heard of it, which suprised me as I was always a mahoosive D K-S fan. Will have to keep an eye out for it.

Pogle, is your dog a bit over-friendly?

...We never should have fallen in with Blevins, I knew he was trouble...

MoominMymbleandMy · 25/08/2010 12:43

Afternoon, all

Well done, Treacle, have a valuable antique French doll as a prize.

You're right, Elephants, Lady Daisy is delightfully prim and proper. I'd never heard of it either until DD unearthed it in my favourite bookshop, a lovely, quirky independent bookseller in a place where there used to be a seriously fancy glasshouse dating from the same period as LD.

And a spot of Google cheating leads me to the idea these Horses were Pretty, Treacle.

Pogle, would your dog be named after a flower?

AIBU to think my DH has gone too far this time?

steamedtreaclesponge · 25/08/2010 14:50

They were some very Pretty Horses indeed, Moomin! Well done! Would you prefer a gun or a hand-tooled saddle for your prize?

MCP, everyone!

And AIBU to not want the money?

MoominMymbleandMy · 25/08/2010 15:44

I wouldn't know what to do with either, Treacle! But I'm sure I'd be much safer with the saddle and we can always pop it on the rocking horse, so let it be that, please.

As for the money, it sounds very U to me but I'm sure you have your reasons. Tri-wizard Tournament winnings, perhaps?

And speaking of HP I sat up far too late reading "From the Ashes" on Rose and Lizard. What bliss!

Elephants, Pogle, MCP on working with soft-headed idiots and intimidating bitches!

...I couldn't believe my eyes when I turned the television on...

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 25/08/2010 17:02

Did you get it for doing something baaaad treacle? (betraying your Messiah perhaps?) If not, do you want to be poor?

Pogle, I'm in the dark about your dog. Is she larger than the average hound?

NI on yours Moomin, is he in trouble?

...But my horrible punishments are starting to come back to haunt me, and I'm sure the new girl has something to do with it...

MoominMymbleandMy · 25/08/2010 17:35

Hmm, would the new girl be something of a bookworm, Elephants?

MCP all!

...Not in trouble, but I'm very much afraid he's going to be a complete laughing stock...

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 25/08/2010 17:47

Like -I care bloody kids-- Correct, Moomin.

As a reward I will not tip this newt onto your head. You should be grateful for such leniency from the Trunchbull.

Pogleswood · 25/08/2010 19:51

Oooh,lots of action...

Yes,Elephants ,she is larger than the average hound. She isn't un friendly - but being eyed up by a wolf/husky cross does tend to upset some people...
(I don't think a flower name would be appropriate!)

MCP!

steamedtreaclesponge · 25/08/2010 21:31

Ooh, coffee cake for me, please!

Gah, can't believe I missed Miss Trunchbull.

...No, it's not prize money, and we don't want to be poor. But it's not rightfully ours...
