Probably I am. But I LOVE that song and found the ad very moving (and I love JL too so was very pleased it wasn't for tampax or something else). Sad but true!

Oh I cried! I am pretty emotional at the moment being on my IVF 2WW and drugged up to the eyeballs on progesterone. It was the baby / little girl bits that got me and then I just kept on blubbing!

noeyedear · 28/04/2010 21:12

I'm not preggers so have no excuse- thought I was the only one-phew! I love that ad- I watch it with a lump in my throat every time- I think theres a longer one where she starts out as a baby which is my favourite!

Arkala · 28/04/2010 21:25

noeyedear - really? would love to see that one, have only seen the one where she starts off as a little girl so far.

am loving the blub-fest

megonthemoon, I'm glad you said that, I thought it actually was an insurance ad when I saw it, was completely when it finished and was for a big shop that sells stuff. I'm normally a serial weeper (could have killed BT when they used the ET music on their ad, 10 seconds and weeping like a baby, don't even get me started on the Great Ormond St ones) but this left me completely blank.

Can't believe it's got such a reaction though, ad agency have earned their fee!

scottishmummy · 28/04/2010 21:45

cant see what all the gushing is about.talk about bigging something up for no good reason

mummysgoingmad · 28/04/2010 21:56

agree with scottishmummy

lovely74 · 28/04/2010 21:57

It's for John Lewis is it? I makes me well up so much I can't watch it (but I am always a nightmare with things like that, I sing along to the Johnny Cash childrens album for my DS and I end up in tears!!!}. It's a beautiful song, and Fyfe has NOT murdered it, though he's certainly no Billy.....

pointydog · 28/04/2010 21:59

It is utter paff

MudandRoses · 28/04/2010 21:59

I cried at this. And it reminded me of the movie 'Up' (which also had me in floods..)

porcamiseria · 28/04/2010 22:07

ive gone off it now, once was enough

scottishmummy · 28/04/2010 22:08

can i ask exactly what did people well up about?what caused such greetin

pointydog · 28/04/2010 22:10

it's a lady...sniff... growing up...sniff.. looking pretty... in a... sniff..a... BEAUTIFUL HOME

scottishmummy · 28/04/2010 22:11

pointydog · 28/04/2010 22:17

steph1512 · 28/04/2010 22:18

never thought i would say it about an advert..but love it

scottishmummy · 28/04/2010 22:22

nope dont get it.aspirational commercial.nowt else

pointydog · 28/04/2010 22:24

It's sorta like a horoscope - makes an awful lot of people thing they are seeing their own life reflected. (Only better because it is all a big showroom with goo dlighting and a soundtrack.)

Arkala · 28/04/2010 22:25

You are hard headed women, scottishmummy and pointydog!

I think posters above have given loads of reasons why it touches a chord with them individually (obviously the ad agency have been v clever to make sure it touches lots of chords with lots of people!)

I don't normally analyse things this much (honestly) but since you ask....I think for me quite a lot of the emotion is due to the song, and the memories that it brings back from my "Billy Joel days". If it was the same ad but with a completely different soundtrack, or no music at all, I think I'd still like it but don't think the tears would flow.

jesus wept a glossy ad.attributing so much to it is bitty gushy and lame

seems to get plenty of you lot goin though

MrsWeasley · 28/04/2010 22:32

I had to look on the youtube clip to see what all the fuss was about. I've not seen it on tv.

Didnt make me cry.

pookamoo · 28/04/2010 22:43

sob we don't have a tv so just watched it on YouTube.
It got me at the bit where the little girl crawled out of the tunnel and she'd gone from toddler to school age... argh it's all happening so quickly!!!

scottishmummy · 28/04/2010 22:47

nursery says my children are great tunnel crawlers!not familiar with the song or billy joel

moondog · 28/04/2010 22:53

I watched on Youtube as the odious Melanie Madonaghue (or summat) wittering about it in Torygraph.

Leaves me cold.
They are trying to sell you stuff girls. Wake up and smell the cawffee.
It doesn't flow anyway as all seems roughly in same time period (apart from some guests at wedding in vaguely 60s gear which makes even less sense as the bride not in this style.)

I would sooner go dogging with George osborne than allow myself to be moved by an ad.
(Althoguh obv. John Lewis excellent folk.)

IMoveTheStars · 29/04/2010 00:58

love the guillemots though

SpikyPiixie · 29/04/2010 00:59

Youngest has just grown out of his 0-3 month clothes & I was sat in the bedroom floor sniffing as I put them into storage -THAT was bad enough then they h-had to d-do THAT to me???!!
Worse than that, other half was watching an online video where an old guy lays dying alone and his life flashes before him to a suitably tearful tune. The flashbacks were in slow motion & reverse order, so the last shot I saw before I had to leave the room was from his point of view looking up as his mum when he was a baby .... aaaahhhh! DON'T go looking for it!
