parenting pet peeves...

I know I'm going to get flamed for this but I just don't care - I have to vent somewhere after a weekend of smiling and nodding and keeping my mouth shut!

Here is a list of 'parenting' traits that I absolutely hate!

Giving babies sugar - dessert/pudding/biscuits/cake - they do not need it - they are not missing anything and they are the reason that your child is already overweight!

Shovelling food into tiny babies, scooping it up and shoving it back in when the baby's tongue pushes it out while discussing the baby's excema, constipation, tummy upsets etc

Giving toddlers fizzy drinks such as Coke and letting them run madly around before screaming at them and complaining about how badly behaved they are.

Giving children calpol because it's been a 'long day' or because they have a slight sniffle or even a hint of a temperature or just because 'they like the taste'!.

controlled crying / cry it out - I hate this at any stage but I DESPISE it in children under 6 months. I don't care if your child has been sleeping through since 5 weeks - it is bloody cruel!

and breathe....

Ok feel free to flame me or alternatively add your own pet peeves!

Disclaimer : I by no means consider myself to be a perfect parent and I could fill several threads with my own parenting flaws.

baby olympics gets my goat oh maximus can run/jump/speak cantonese better than anyone else

LeQueen - seriously are you jealous of those women who dont need make up to feel beautiful. men preferr less/no make up. my DP hates it when I wear the full works...he likes the au natural look.

I wear make up, but only cause Im not confident to go out the house without it, I also think it makes me look better ..but thats not to say that women who dont wear make up cant be arsed with thier appearence...

Yes we should look good for out DP's DH's but not for other men...so if DP, DH isnt around - who is there to impress, and if bergentulip's DH loves her without make up, then she has no need to wear it!

stealthsquiggle · 23/02/2010 20:17

OK LeQueen - thank you for clarifications - I will say that I have not yet sunk as far as not brushing hair (albeit sometimes it only gets done in the car as that is the only place I seem to be able to be sure of finding a brush ) or going anywhere further than the end of the garden in my pyjamas - and it's no moral choice, it is pure laziness (I prefer the extra sleep in the morning ).

I hold to my hatred of the mothers who are dressed up for the school run and look down on the rest of us mere mortals though - and will add my irrational hatred of the mothers (SAHMs to a woman, I happen to know) who turn up in gym kit and are limbering up for their run even as they post the DC through the door - I don't hate them for running, but for feeling the need to make it clear to everyone that is what they are doing.

Chegirl - I think that the term co-sleeping is meant to imply that it's deliberate, and not the result of utter exhaustion and an inability to think of anything else to do.

This is not to imply that some people choose to co-sleep, but I suspect it's a minority.

I thought BLW sounded like a load of wanky toss and too much like hard work. I didn't even look into it. Now DS is out of the 'spoonfeeding mush' stage (which I agonised about faaaaar more than I needed to) he just gets given his food and gets on with it. I have now realised that if he is hungry, he'll eat, and if he isn't, he won't. Duh. It's not bloody rocket science. So apparently I am BLF(eeding) him now, and will no doubt BLW the next one. Giving it a fancy name just made it seem like a fad to me, rather than common sense.
