Morning, all! I am thoroughly confuddled having stayed up far too late reading the Rose and Lizard site you once recommended, Pogle. The Marlows go to Hogwarts! Sounds utterly mad but is blissful fun. As was the Marlows at the Chalet School.

Treacle, Rose and Lizard is here and is a brilliant AF fanfic site. Moomin, I've been reading 'A Wand with Sixteen Strings' as well and thoroughly enjoyed it, despite being sure I'd never, ever like crossover fan fiction. Loved it (thanks, Pogle!)

I know yours, Treacle, but I just can't twitch out of the depths (shallows?) of my brain ...

I didn't think I would enjoy A Wand with Sixteen Strings in the least either, CJ. How wrong I was! Now, I'm always going to be aware that the twins are bumbling around somewhere in the backgound while Harry et al are saving the wizarding world.

The trouble with the Marlows and the goblins is I don't think I've read the original of the goblins part of it. Which seems a waste because I wouldn't have savoured the full glory of the twins' brief career at the Armiford branch of the Chalet School without being steeped in the Chaletians' irritatingly saccharine ways. Oh, the sheer bliss of Nicola and the Sale dolls' house and Lawrie on the baby Jesus!

I know what you mean, Moomin. I don't know Chalet School or the other thingy (sorry, Pogle!) so I fear I might miss a lot of the references. Whereas yes, Lawrie thinking Harry Potter surviving Voldemort was just a story and the poor duffer twins being sorted into Hufflepuff was just genius. Still can't quite get over Tim being in Slytherin - although I don't really like Tim much, so maybe that's ok after all.

I could go on but I must go to bed.

I always thought the Chalet School books were a bit odd, actually - perhaps I didn't get into them young enough! Especially Joey and her eight thousand children...

What's the goblins one based on?

...I just can't bear to see the girl I love with a criminal...

Lawrie at Hogwarts was pure genius, wasn't it. And the way she dissolved into gibbering, weeping terror when she realised Voldemort wasn't a story, was out there and would be targeting the school at which Miss L Marlow was a pupil (never mind poor bereaved and doomed Harry) was classic Lawrie!

The Chalet School series is not to be compared with the Marlows in the same breath. But it is very entertaining when you are tired and at odds with the world. The characters are very worthy, given to marrying doctors and breed like rabbits on steroids, especially Joey. The few interesting types either get the boot or are made over into true Chaletians. Ann would have been right at home there.

Ahem, back to business, still NIMCP here, I'm afraid.

...It is U, very U. We have next to nothing in common. She's a beautiful, rich American journalist, and married into the bargain...

I must say Joey meeting Lawrie ,particularly, and discussing religion makes my brain stall!There is somewhere out there a fic called The Marlows and the Chalet School,Moomin and Treacle(or possibly The Chalet School and the Marlows??) - I can't remember where or who wrote it though!

The goblins one is based on Labyrinth,which I still haven't seen,it is good,totally unexpected things happen to Ann...

...they expect me to stay at home and care for our people - it's like being in a cage...

Don't stomp off in high dudgeon, Pogle! I promise to read Ann meets the goblins tonight, even if I haven't seen the film!
