AIBU Books Game Part Six

MoominMymbleandMy · 26/01/2010 19:16

Now, we're on thread number six!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to think I'm seeing a ghost?

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 12/04/2010 20:23

Oh good grief.Yup - should've got that one,CJ

MoominMymbleandMy · 12/04/2010 21:07

In Regent's Park, CJ, yes, indeed, we are. Well done! It is charming but for four humans and 101 dogs, it's a bit of a squeeze. And we're getting rather tired of all the poop scooping in the park.

You know you might be sorry you weren't nicer to your cousin. Just think how you'd kick yourself if you heard a long lost relation had left her a fortune and she'd shared it with some relatives who were kind to her.

AIBU to think I've got no choice but to propose to this girl?

OP posts:
CJCregg · 12/04/2010 22:40

Moomin, do you have to make an honest woman of her?

Imagine picking up after 101 dogs ... yikes. Hope you're all nicely settled in Hill Hall now.

As for my wretched cousin, I fear I'll have drunk myself to death before she has a chance to repay my family's kindness ...

AIBU to feel that I don't really belong here? I think I'm a bit of a fraud, but I don't want to admit it.

Poledra · 12/04/2010 23:02

Evening all. How's tricks? Have been off on holiday (well, visiting parents and PsIL) and should now be doing some work - 'tis great when DH thinks you're working hard but are actually MNetting..... Glad the lurgies seem to be receding - the sun has been out, spring is here and we can throw all the children outside to play!

Moomin, have you compromised her in some way? Or have you just backed yourself into a corner?

Did Tortoise ever come back and confirm if hers was the famous diarist of Ashby-de-la-Zouch?

MoominMymbleandMy · 13/04/2010 00:10

Ah, Pol, isn't it bliss to be able to let them potter in the garden. Even if the flowers do get a bit squashed.

Are you almost a squib, CJ? MCP!

...I haven't compromised her in any way! But I do seem to have backed myself into a corner. I thought it was just a harmless flirtation...

OP posts:
Poledra · 13/04/2010 00:24

God, Moomin, I know I know yours. Oh oh, has your your true love recently been forced to downsize due to family difficulties??

MoominMymbleandMy · 13/04/2010 00:42

Why yes, Pol, and to think I wasn't good enough for them. Bunch of snobs!

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 13/04/2010 08:37

Whoops - I thought Hell Hall was in Sussex

AIBU to go on the run?

CJCregg · 13/04/2010 09:25

Treacle, sorry to steal your thunder

Moomin, I wasn't sure if you were Captain Wentworth or Edward Ferrars (now you'll tell me you were neither) ...

And shhhhh, for goodness' sake - don't say squib, I think they're onto me as it is ... Clever Moomin!

Got to go, my DCs are screaming at each other.

AIBU to tease the new girl?

Glad the thread's picked up again

Pogleswood · 13/04/2010 09:38

Oooh,lots of posts!

I was talking to DH last night and said it felt as if the only book I've read which hasn't been AIBU'd is War and Peace - and I can't think where to begin with that!
(AIBU to invade Russia perhaps?!)

MCP!

MoominMymbleandMy · 13/04/2010 10:10

Morning all!

Whew! Proof that wild stabs in the dark do sometimes come off. So were you Argus Filch, the cat-loving caretaker then, CJ?

And yes, I was being the gallant Captain Wentworth in fear of being saddled with a young lady with a cracked head. Hooray for lovelorn poets.

Happy bafflement has descended here too so MCP all.

AIBU to wish my friend's life hadn't changed for the better?

OP posts:
Poledra · 13/04/2010 11:01
steamedtreaclesponge · 13/04/2010 11:51

CJ, sounds like you might be a bit U - why are you teasing her? Does she wear funny clothes?

MCP everyone!

...after all, I didn't kill anyone...

Poledra · 13/04/2010 11:56

So, who did then, Treacle?Looks to me like there's been a murrdurr (in best Taggart style).

llandb · 13/04/2010 13:10

My, you have been busy - page 25! (Goes off to catch up on many pages - and waves at everyone)

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 13/04/2010 13:21

Oh nooo I have missed some great books, including some I actually knew, dammit

Are you missing having her around the house Moomin?

Did your best friend do it Treacle? If so are the (rather stupid) police trying to make out that you helped kill all those people?

Not sure if it's been done but hey-ho it's a thread revival so...AIBU to think twice about accepting this invitation?

MoominMymbleandMy · 13/04/2010 13:24

Are you under suspicion, Treacle? Or afraid you might be the next target?

MCP!

...I'm glad that she's happy now. Only I do miss her...

OP posts:
tortoiseonthehalfshell · 13/04/2010 13:33

Bugger, sorry you lot, I disappeared. Polly, yes, well done.

Moomin, has she moved away or do you just not get to see her now?

MoominMymbleandMy · 13/04/2010 14:08

...She doesn't live here any more and I don't know when I'll see her again. She does write to me but it makes me feel worse because she's so happy and I'm not...

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 13/04/2010 14:13

Now that sounds like something I've read quite recently,Moomin - if only I could remember what...
Bother,bother - can't even think of a constructive question!

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 13/04/2010 14:21

You're sounding so very Jane Austeny Moomin, so might I ask if you recently jilted your friend's brother?

steamedtreaclesponge · 13/04/2010 14:56

Has she married someone well-off, Moomin?

Elephants, is it an indecent invitation?

...Yes, it was murder. My friend was just trying to protect me, but who would believe our word against them? We have a bad reputation, after all...

MoominMymbleandMy · 13/04/2010 15:16

...Oh no, we aren't old enough to get married or jilt people! I doubt anyone would ever want to marry me anyway. I'm too stupid and fat and plain...

If you haven't read it, Pogle, I think you'd enjoy it.

Is someone inviting you for a meal, Elephants? And do you suspect you might feature as the main course?

Stumped on the fugitives.

MCP all!

OP posts:
ElephantsAndMiasmas · 13/04/2010 15:37

Far from it Treacle, an invitation on a date with no chance whatsoever of any down and dirty behaviour. But he's just SO...different.

No cannibalism here Moomin!

Were you on your way to go fishing, Treacle?

I'm getting a Judy Blume vibe now Moomin...no clear direction though sadly.

Pogleswood · 13/04/2010 15:40

So do your friend's improved circumstances have something to do with an Indian gentleman,Moomin?

And if so,yes - I did enjoy it,and can't imagine how I'd managed to avoid reading it sooner!

MCP!
