AIBU Books Game Part Six

MoominMymbleandMy · 26/01/2010 19:16

Now, we're on thread number six!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to think I'm seeing a ghost?

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 10/03/2010 15:25

You know, Elephants, I think you might get tired of her (and your new advisor) after a little while... begging your Majesty's pardon

Pogleswood · 10/03/2010 15:56

Ping!

Nice one,Elephants!

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 10/03/2010 16:09

Well Treacle, in light of your quick-wittedness Cromwell will take a letter commuting your sentence for impudence treason to life imprisonment in the tower AIBU Books Thread.

Thanks Pogle!

llandb · 10/03/2010 23:54

Treacle - I would take a very dim view of it if my nephew had taken my money and pretended to be having high jinx at my behest (even going so far as to give his pal's address as his own) while continuing his life as a Sluggard. But I suppose you are right about it being his friend's flat and manservant, after all

CJ, funny you should mention that, as my nephew's pal Bertie is the nephew of an Aunt Augusta

(And commiserations - or something appropriate of that sort - about the mouse)

I have no idea what the rest of you are on about. But shall seize some passing driftwood to paddle my boat (anyone else in boat?):

Erm, right, so have we got Pogle's one yet?

If not - Pogle, are you above ground?

CJ, MCP! Is one of you unavailable?

Actually, just generally plain ol' MCP

AIBU to not be fond of children?

'Night, all!

pollywollydoodle · 11/03/2010 10:19

llandb are you old and expect children to be seen and not heard or young and find your peers too boisterous and confusing...if either yanbu

[can' even work out which ones are still going....joins llandb messing about on the river]

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 11/03/2010 11:07

Shall we have a roll call of whose are still going? If yours is still going post the clues so far and we'll try to catch up? Am also splashing pitifully in the sea of idiocy...

steamedtreaclesponge · 11/03/2010 11:37

Right, here are mine so far:

AIBU to lie in my job application?

...Not plagiarising, but I suppose I made myself sound a bit older and more experienced than I actually am. But it's my dream job - all those books...

...No, I'm not working for a publishing house, but at the palace! I'm a bit nervous about working for the king but can't wait to get my hands on his library...

...If only I didn't have to house-sit with that stupid boy...

And a new clue:

...mind you, it's quite an exciting house. If only I could work out what door leads where...

Pogleswood · 11/03/2010 13:13

These are mine - but I have a feeling it may be a bit obscure!

AIBU to like him?

...and I think I could like him as a friend - the last thing I expected to find up here...

...I was expecting everyone to be less civilised than they seem to be...

...I'm pursuing my career - that's how I met him - it wasn't one of the finer moments of my professional life though...

And a new one:
...He treated me well though - I could even have joined the family for prayers - except they pray for King James...

Pogleswood · 11/03/2010 13:14

Oh,and llandb,I am above ground!

steamedtreaclesponge · 11/03/2010 13:43

Are you working as a domestic servant, Pogle?

llandb · 11/03/2010 15:54

What a good idea, Elephants! I'm sure I always lose track of who said what when I try to catch up on the thread.

(It doesn't help that some of you conspire to have names that start with P, so I sometimes skim-read and mix up posts by Pogle, polly and Poledra!)

(In fact I've been wondering about compiling a list of who has posted in these threads and what name-changes, if nobody's done it already - but I'm sure there's a super-quick technical way to suck the names down and it would be a waste of valuable AIBU time to do it by hand)

Right, my current one:

AIBU to not be fond of children?

  • (Am I old and expect children to be seen and not heard or young and find my peers too boisterous and confusing?)

Oh, I'm a retired maths teacher (I think ) But I am always kind to my great-nieces. If they show up at my doorstep, I encourage a quiet activity and pretend to take to bed with a headache.

Pogleswood · 11/03/2010 18:46

A domestic servant,Treacle? What a bizarre idea!
Our paths keep crossing but now he is at a disadvantage - he is badly wounded, and I fear they have tortured him...

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 12/03/2010 10:19

Wow thanks everyone! I always was the kid at school putting up their hand to say "I don't get it, can you explain it again?"...

llandb - any particular activity?

Pogleswood · 12/03/2010 11:05

Morning!
Are you house sitting for your Great Uncle,Treacle??

MCP,llandb = you do sound vaguely familiar...

steamedtreaclesponge · 12/03/2010 12:35

I certainly am, Pogle, well done! Some fried squid rings are winging their way to you...

MCP everyone else!

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 12/03/2010 13:02

What was it? I like books about books and mysterious doors and that.

steamedtreaclesponge · 12/03/2010 14:17

It was House of Many Ways by Diana Wynne Jones - the sequel (kind of) to Howl's Moving Castle and Castle in the Air.

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 12/03/2010 17:02

Am I being unreasonable to think that an old ice house is a perfectly reasonable foster home for a baby who is too young to travel to Australia with her parents?

Pogleswood · 12/03/2010 20:12

Squid rings! Yey,a decent prize at last!

SDTG,all depends on the state of the ice house I suppose. (Australia isn't the place parents normally set off to without their DCs,is it?)
MCP!

...so,now he goes to Carlyle to be tried - I don't expect that we will meet again. If the heron hadn't startled my horse we would never have met in the first place...

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 12/03/2010 21:05

Pogleswood - the icehouse isn't luxurious, but I am happy here - I have equipped it with a few basics - some logs as stools, and a rocking chair I found outside the ruins of the burnt-out house where I used to live. I've separated the icehouse into rooms, and I have a fire to keep me cosy.

The baby is with me until she is old enough for the rigours of the sea voyage to Australia

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 13/03/2010 09:59

AIBU to have a bit of a crush on the Great Wizard Howl (in animation form at least)?

Am I though?

pollywollydoodle · 13/03/2010 11:09

staying..are her parents convicts?

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 13/03/2010 12:13

Now that's a difficult one - they didn't make that clear to me before they left. Now I have two more children living with me - refugees from the fire that destroyed my old home. The girl is clearly G&T in languages.

steamedtreaclesponge · 13/03/2010 13:06

Elephants, YANBU...

Either that or we are both U (and a bit sad)

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 14/03/2010 11:48

Well I'm sure that couldn't be the case, Treacle, so WADNBU
