AIBU Books Game Part Six

MoominMymbleandMy · 26/01/2010 19:16

Now, we're on thread number six!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to think I'm seeing a ghost?

OP posts:
ElephantsAndMiasmas · 08/03/2010 16:18

Need time to ponder on everyone else's, but:

...no I wouldn't say my manservant is much cleverer than I, but he certainly has the gift of the gab, he even managed to get my beloved to listen to my suit, something I have signally failed to do.

Pogleswood · 08/03/2010 16:34

Hmmm - MCP!

llandb · 08/03/2010 20:41

Well, Pogle - I'm not an uncle, but an aunt, as you correctly surmised. Though not Bertie Wooster's aunt.

And I think that someone very like Bertie Wooster is a bad influence on my newphew. Why, he behaves as though my nephew's apartmnet were his, and instructs my nephew's manservant!

I had to tell him quite sharply to make off; I have come here (unannounced) to move in with my DN and taste cosmopolitan delights. Not make chit-chat with his wastrel acquaintance.

Well, Elepants, that latest clue of yours has put a stop to my 'are you going to marry him?' Does your manservant have to humour your chivalrous imagination?

Depends, Pogle - is he likeable? Do you like him as a pet, a friend, do you fancy him, is he going to con you?

MCP (glug, glug)

llandb · 08/03/2010 20:48

Oops, sorry, Elephants - didn't mean to suggest that you are pants - I am just a rubbish/lazy proofreader. Poor impulse control or summat.

I figure noone is going to hold it against me on this thread so tend not to bother to make corrections except in case of ambiguity or inadvertent rudeness (not that it's ever advertent )

steamedtreaclesponge · 09/03/2010 08:42

Morning, all!

And well done, DavidTennantsGirl!

NIMCP everyone...

CJCregg · 09/03/2010 09:10

Utterly . Where is that driftwood emoticon?

Have just dealt with my first dead mouse. I feel so awful. But I had to do it - I could hear it yesterday but couldn't trace it until I found a great chunk nibbled out of an apple - in broad daylight! So the rodent war is on. But I don't like dealing with the bodies. Yuk.

Sorry, just had to get that out. As you were.

I am confused again by all these aunties. I don't suppose by any stretch of the imagination that one of them is the legendary Aunt Augusta of handbag fame? Nah, thought not.

OK, AIBU to secretly fancy my best friend? (It's a he, by the way, this isn't going all Sapphic - well, not this time, anyway ...)

steamedtreaclesponge · 09/03/2010 09:28

Elephants, did your manservant come to work for you under slightly mysterious circumstances? No chance he could be a woman in disguise, is there?

Llandb, could it be that the flat and manservant actually belong to the wastrel friend and not to your nephew at all?

MCP everyone!

And AIBU to lie in my job application?

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 09/03/2010 09:53

Pogleswood - you are right, I am a man of the cloth - I think you have rumbled me, no?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 09/03/2010 11:31

Treacle, surely you are mistaken about Cesario? He has all the manly qualities one could, er, desire. Well done! The cross-gartered yellow stockings are in the post.

Ooh yes and bonus out-of-tune lute to llandb for "are you going to marry him?" Don't worry, I like the idea of elepants - they'd get quite cold bums without them I suppose.

Why can't you just tell him how you feel, CJ?

I hope you haven't been plagiarising, treacle. Otherwise NIMCP!

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 09/03/2010 11:34

AIBU to fancy my ex-girlfriend's sister?

steamedtreaclesponge · 09/03/2010 11:48

Huzzah! Oi loves a bit of Twelfth Night, oi do.

MCP everyone else!

...Not plagiarising, but I suppose I made myself sound a bit older and more experienced than I actually am. But it's my dream job - all those books...

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 09/03/2010 12:47

Oh they look very pretty treacle!! M'lady will love you in them.

Oof NIMCP on everyone's.

...actually scrap "fancy", I'm crazy about her! Ex-GF isn't going to cause any problems, but I think my wife will...

pollywollydoodle · 09/03/2010 20:55

hello,
dum de dum
elephant...are you a bloomsbury sort?
treacle yours is swirling around just out of reach...is it a job reading books for a publishing house?
nimcp on the others

Pogleswood · 09/03/2010 21:14

Evening all!

Sadly,Sunny,in answer to your post "I think you have rumbled me, no?" my reply is er,no - I was just trying to narrow down my options!I'll keep thinking tho, unless anyone else has got it!
So,MCP??

CJ,might your best friend fancy you back? Is there any chance of the patter of unexpected tiny feet?

Elephants,you are obviously being v v U - have you no shame??

...and I think I could like him as a friend - the last thing I expected to find up here...

steamedtreaclesponge · 09/03/2010 21:42

Ummm.... more clues please!

Were you expecting to hate everyone, Pogle?

...No, I'm not working for a publishing house, but at the palace! I'm a bit nervous about working for the king but can't wait to get my hands on his library...

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 09/03/2010 22:15

Ohh that is teasing on the edge of my memory, steamedtreaclesponge.

Pogleswood - my wife and I have been going through a bit of a rough patch - but her going off to work as a shelf-stacker didn't help.

Pogleswood · 09/03/2010 22:45

Oh help and bother - I'm sure I know who you are,it's on the tip of my tongue...

...I was expecting everyone to be less civilised than they seem to be...

Pogleswood · 09/03/2010 22:54

Aha - I do know who you are! You are cheesed off because you didn't get to be archdeacon, aren't you? I think YABU - it can't have been easy for her being the rector's wife...

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 09/03/2010 23:29

Yay - you got me, Pogleswood - Peter Bouverie's the name - rectoring's the game!

Pogleswood · 09/03/2010 23:32

Night to anyone who is still around!

steamedtreaclesponge · 10/03/2010 10:18

Morning, all!

Pogle, have you moved to the country?

MCP...

...If only I didn't have to house-sit with that stupid boy...

Pogleswood · 10/03/2010 11:58

Morning!

...I'm pursuing my career - that's how I met him - it wasn't one of the finer moments of my professional life though...

MCP,all!

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 10/03/2010 12:22

Bloomsbury, where's that? More of a greenwich sort actually. Any more talk like that Pogle and I feel sure you will regret it. Anyone who looks with disfavour on this lady is being swept away with the help of my new advisor.

Pogleswood · 10/03/2010 12:31

Sorry,Elephants,no offence meant

MCP? Perhaps?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 10/03/2010 14:26

Well, since you cower before me, I will inform you that I mean to get a divorce, and make this matchless woman my wife, but it's not going to be easy. Luckily my new advisor can sort anything out...
