AIBU Books Game Part Six

MoominMymbleandMy · 26/01/2010 19:16

Now, we're on thread number six!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to think I'm seeing a ghost?

CJCregg · 17/02/2010 17:16

Moomin, are you by any chance planning to travel by magic carpet?

SnowWoman · 17/02/2010 17:21

Sorry CJ, it's The Great Hamster Massacre by Katie Davies. Not for the faint-hearted animal lover, as several hamsters come to grief at various points.

I need to go think up a new AIBU now...

MoominMymbleandMy · 17/02/2010 17:28

Not a bit U, CJ. Go and pick yourself a nice puddy tat. If you were nearer I would lend you one of my urchins. The big one could despatch the mice just by sitting on them.

...By magic but not by carpet. Or I'd like to see the Big Flea in the Natural History Museum if they won't agree to seeing our mother...

I'm fairly sure Snow's hamsters are from The Great Hamster Massacre by Kate Davies.

MCP Polly, and er, CJ!

OP posts:
MoominMymbleandMy · 17/02/2010 17:29

Cross-posted, but I'm sure CJ won't mind a story about rodent slaughter!

MoominMymbleandMy · 17/02/2010 17:58

With knobs on! Absolutely, CJ, well done indeed! You may frivol to your heart's content.

AIBU to not want to move?

OP posts:
CJCregg · 17/02/2010 18:02

Yay! I knew I knew it. Did the old Moomin trick of walking away pretending I wasn't thinking about the thread any more, and it popped straight into my head.

Moomin, are you Arthur Dent?!

MoominMymbleandMy · 17/02/2010 18:10

...That's a man's name! I'm a respectable widow with four children...

MCP Polly! Any luck with the racking, CJ?

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 17/02/2010 18:14

Well done, Moomin! That book always makes me cry too And your prize is... erm... a bunny, maybe? Real or velveteen, your choice!

MoominMymbleandMy · 17/02/2010 18:48

Ooh, velveteen please, Treacle. I'm not sure I could guarantee a real bunny's safety round here, what with rambunctious toddler, urchin mogs and urban foxes.

...My younger son has had pneumonia and I don't think he's strong enough for the move yet...

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 17/02/2010 20:37

Ah, Moomin - have you tried asking some of your husband's friends? I hear they're very good at problem-solving...

pollywollydoodle · 17/02/2010 20:58

hmm catching up on dizzily spiralling thread...is lucozade Scheherazade's brother?...on the rack same as rack your brain...poor hamsters and i'm supposed to be the one who reads gore....

moomin is it poor timothy who is ill?

thank you for the choc and reassurance, lovely but unneccessary, i was just in character...my husband simon (or is it dimitri?) has never loved me he just needed to marry me to look respectable and he was only interested in me for what i could potentially do for him and his allies...whilst my previous fiance paul (or is he michael?) who i met at the end of the war loved me for me...

MoominMymbleandMy · 17/02/2010 22:04

That was very quick, Treacle and Polly. Umm, I don't suppose either of you fancy a super intelligent rodent as a prize?

Cheating by Google is still not getting me anywhere on your one, Polly.

AIBU to run away from home?

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 17/02/2010 22:46

NIMCP!

Not having any luck googling on yours I'm afraid, Polly...

Pogleswood · 17/02/2010 23:09

No,me neither, polly! You are czechoslovakian, are you? (not that I expect the answer to help at all..) More helpful might be to know why you want to go back to Prague?

Running away again,Moomin?! (or was it just from school before - I can't remember!)

pollywollydoodle · 18/02/2010 04:28

i'd love a pet rat...can i call it john terry?

pogle, i'm a polish refugee working as a secretary in the british foreign office... the gestapo held me in prague at the end of the war for shooting a kommandant,..i was liberated by the americans....i didn't want to go back because of all the bad memories but i felt it was right that i went back as i knew someone the government needed to contact from my old days in the resistance..

Pogleswood · 18/02/2010 09:06

Aha,at last, polly! You are the diplomats wife, aren't you?

Is worth reading? I have an aversion to books with couples locked in a fond embrace on the cover,so would have avoided this, but it sounds like a gripping plot!

pollywollydoodle · 18/02/2010 20:48

well done pogle, have a twirl!

the opening bit where she is in a gestapo prison then liberated is well written but harrowing but then it gets all "love of my life, perfect man" and a bit unbelievable...an easy read but a bit like the literary equivalent of eating candyfloss imo...

MoominMymbleandMy · 18/02/2010 22:57

Ah, you could do with a bit of candyfloss, Polly, considering the harrowing stuff that's your normal diet. And 'John Terry' the pet rat can nibble on it too.

Out all day so apologies for the hanging AIBU!

...You see, I've been offered my dream job...

OP posts:
pollywollydoodle · 19/02/2010 10:43

is the dream job way beyond your wildest dreams moomin....if so be careful...girls like you can end up as victims of the slave trade

polly realises that she needs more candy floss...goes to shops via vet where JT is being done..

MoominMymbleandMy · 19/02/2010 11:19

...That's exactly the sort of thing my aunt would say. But anything's got to be better than home...

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 19/02/2010 14:21

Hmm... NIMCP!

AIBU to think that maybe this place isn't all it's cracked up to be?

MoominMymbleandMy · 19/02/2010 17:27

Well, you might be, Treacle, I think you'll have to be a bit more specific before we can judge.

...I didn't think I'd ever get away. I even thought I might end up marrying a rather boring man to escape...

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 22/02/2010 12:26

Yours is sounding familiar, Moomin, but I think I need more clues please!

Are there any other AIBUs going at the moment?

...I really enjoyed myself when I first got here, but I'm starting to run out of things to do now...

MoominMymbleandMy · 22/02/2010 12:37

Afternoon, all!

...But I am very nervous. I'll work as hard as I can but what if I'm just not good enough? I know I haven't had the same level of training as the other girls...

Are you prone to telling fibs, Treacle?

MCP!
