It is like goldilocks that is a v good point indeed and clearly from a sane person too who has their cutlery under control.

amazing. after posting here on advice, i've discovered my MIL has engineered a revolution in my cutlery tray, and it now follows: knife, fork, spoon.
i had thought i was hostage to the longer compartment in the tray, that ONLY the knives could live there, but it turns out the knives fit just fine in the first slot and the spoons now have plenty of room to spread out.

I would like to apologise first and foremost for offending the sensibilities of the OP by saying that such things sterilised cleaned boiled nitcombs might share drawer space with cutlery. It was all DH's fault in any case.

Despite being cleaner than everything else they have now been relocated to the drawer with the stapler and the receipts and the drawing pins.

My cutlery tray is at a 90 degree angle to the drawer because I can't get a toddler lock but I've checked and yes, the order IS perfectly logical from a Darwinian point of view.

1. Knives - at the back and well out of reach

1. Forks - not as lethal

1. Spoons - I did have lots of them. They're probably under the bookcases but nobody will die if they're found.
