AIBU Books Game Part 5

1000 replies

MoominMymbleandMy · 04/10/2009 20:46

Now we've made it to a fifth thread!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to set all my sights on getting a rich husband?

OP posts:
dangheckskuLLANDBone · 15/10/2009 12:40

Ah, henrietta + chocolate ripple cake gives a much nicer google

Moomin, trying to google yours comes up with all sorts of enlightening things but not your book! Goodness me, here was I hoping the gardener's boy would prove eligible and rescuable, but, guess not.

Deary me, I have never read Matilda (off to do so...)

Hmm, conflicted on the aunts question. Aunts can handle themselves, and are no cause for worry if one is an aunt, and of course everyone here who is an aunt is a paragon of an auntie but their methods of self-handling can manifest as going a bit batty and/or niece/nephew-crushery ...

Does this aunt fall into one of those categories (and if so, which)?

Anyway, a general cry to NIMCP!

Oh and my Mr Disraeli is getting awfully used to being told, Don't!

treaclespongeofdeath · 15/10/2009 12:44

...No, she's sharp as ever, and I think you must be right about being tough - she certainly gets herself mixed up in the most unusual situations...

MCP!

dangheckskuLLANDBone · 15/10/2009 12:52

(Oh I approve of toe socks and therefore must go and read Henrietta )

Hmmm, Treacle, now, this aunt - does she travel a lot, or perhaps time-travel, or dabble in secret agency? (Which is BISKIT as I can't think which aunt(s) those are)

treaclespongeofdeath · 15/10/2009 13:02

...She doesn't travel much as she's fond of her village, but occasionally I send her away for a nice holiday, she's always so appreciative...

And I'm sorry, but toe socks are just wrong

more clues, more clues!

Pogleswood · 15/10/2009 13:02

Actually,I think I shall retire from motherhood and become a full time Aunt instead - I quite fancy trading housework and the school run for being indefatigable, and indulging in time travel and secret agency! (Am going batty anyway,so that wouldn't be a problem )

And Llandb, knowing you are Disraeli hasn't helped me at all! Off to google now!

Pogleswood · 15/10/2009 13:04

And straight back to ask if your aunt has a mind like a steel trap,Treacle??

treaclespongeofdeath · 15/10/2009 13:38

She does rather, Pogle - or like a sink, I always say!

Who are these other exciting aunts then? Intrigued now...

dangheckskuLLANDBone · 15/10/2009 14:59

Er, so is this the mystery-solving aunt, then?

If only I could remember where the exploits of these other exciting aunts are documented (if they are) - but it's a case of BISIKT. Sadly, the aunts are far too busy to come here and tell us!

treaclespongeofdeath · 15/10/2009 15:22

Yes, she's the mystery-solving one - it's all that profound knowledge of human nature gained from living in a village, you see...

I think I favour the booming, girl-guide supporting, dog-breeding type of aunt myself. Perhaps I should practise talking loudly and buy some tweed and a hip flask? Just in case?

CJCregg · 15/10/2009 16:50

Afternoon, all!

NIMCP on everyone's, please ...

AIBU to despair of my class?

dangheckskuLLANDBone · 15/10/2009 17:13

Good idea, Treacle! (Er, are you actually being a character, now, or just planning this IRL? )

CJ, depends - are you teacher or pupil, and of what?

So has everyone given up on mine?

I'm going to give up and start a new one...

AIBU to have lived in Australia?

MCP!

MoominOnABroomstick · 15/10/2009 17:24

Ah, by a person whose name is usually paired with another composer as a euphemism for 'tired and emotional', Llandb.

Never heard of it, I'm afraid, but I do have the warm glow of satisfaction that comes from spotting the sleuth of St Mary Mead even if Pogle beat me to it.

Rapidly followed by a deep fog of befuddlement on everyone else's.

Mine is not that racy but it is very readable.

...Nor did I realise that the biology teacher, who rescued the peerless Hermione from the clutches of the gardener's boy, was cherishing secret Sapphic lusts for her herself. Which was why she was a bit narky when I asked about him...

dangheckskuLLANDBone · 15/10/2009 18:23

It came to me highly recommended by the adopter of my ex-cats but I'm sure there were many jokes that I didn't get. Ah well.

Moomin, all I can find while 'researching' yours is Harry Potter fanfic! I backed away

...'course, I didn't want to go there, but I did pretty well for myself...

Pogleswood · 15/10/2009 19:29

Evening all!
Though now I'm here all I have to say is NIMCP!
A lot is happening in yours,Moomin, isn't it?
CJ,if not teacher/ pupil are you despairing of your class in an upper/middle/working class sense?

...the guy who was murdered seemed to have lived as if he was this character,at least some of the time...

stickylittlefingers · 15/10/2009 19:45

llandb (sorry I haven't been on this thread for ages) - I thought I was the only weirdoo person who knew about books like Don't Mr Disraeli (the sort of books I used to borrow from my mad Grandma). It's nice to be sort of validated! I've never heard anyone mention it in RL...

MoominOnABroomstick · 15/10/2009 20:11

Llandb, are you planning to make an orphan of your acquaintance into a gentleman?

NIMC on everyone's and may disappear at any moment - this computer is not at all well.

...It has been an eventful term but everyone assures me Raeburn is just a normal girls' boarding school...

stickylittlefingers · 15/10/2009 20:25

Moomin, are you called Constance, by any chance?

dangheckskuLLANDBone · 15/10/2009 21:34

Hello fellow weirdo stickylittlefingers! It's nice to be not alone

Streuth, Moomin, and he's gone and got all grateful towards some sheila who wears one thong flip-flop-- shoe.

NIMCP!

dangheckskuLLANDBone · 15/10/2009 21:42
dangheckskuLLANDBone · 15/10/2009 22:00

And now, AIBU to sneak up on someone's position, commando-stylee?

'Night, All!

pollywobbledoodle · 16/10/2009 09:58

llandb it is always unreasonable to sneak up on someone commando stylee unless you are a)under 3 or b)about to have sex with them.....are you from that "are you experienced" book.... or are you a kept woman

Pogleswood · 16/10/2009 11:19

I suppose it would be reasonable if you were actually a commando?

...I've been in some odd houses during my career, but nothing like this man's place - it's a period piece, completely authentic.I don't get it really - to talk to his friends you would think that Sherlock Holmes was a real person...

treaclespongeofdeath · 16/10/2009 11:24

Are you a cat, llandb?

NIMCP!

AIBU to pretend to be ill?

CJCregg · 16/10/2009 11:28

NIMCP, except - Treacle, are you going to pretend you've got an illness that might actually reveal the deception?!

Re my class, it's not a social thing, I'm a teacher and they're my pupils. They're quite bright, I think, but very unpredictable and quite frankly I'm used to better behaviour from my charges.

pollywobbledoodle · 16/10/2009 11:33

is it all for a man's attention treacle?
