AIBU Books Game Part 5

1000 replies

MoominMymbleandMy · 04/10/2009 20:46

Now we've made it to a fifth thread!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to set all my sights on getting a rich husband?

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 23/10/2009 10:51

Cross posts,Treacle!

treaclespongeofdeath · 23/10/2009 11:23

So you must be in Barchester, Pogle? Must confess I have hardly read any Trollope - I'm really showing my literary ignorance on this thread!

AIBU to carry a concealed weapon?

Pogleswood · 23/10/2009 14:36

Yes,well done Treacle! I have read some Trollop, - my is over having not read any Dickens....

MCP about your concealed weapon!

dangskuLLANDBoneym · 23/10/2009 17:16

Yes, indeed, Treacle and Pogle - we have been to Antarctica and Broken the Silence!

And my ex-cat is named 'Biggles' because he's Ginger - hgroan! (He's still a cat, by the way; he just lives with someone else now )

I don't remember the details, but I suppose we used one of those ski-fitted planes and I suppose our dashing Ginger was kept very busy chipping the ice off the prop.

Haven't read any Trollope at all at all, but since this absolutely calls for the next one and someone has to 'fess up to having peeked at it :

AIBU to send my staffer (or whatever the correct military term is) to fetch me some trollop?

Pogleswood · 23/10/2009 18:01

Actually that makes me immediately think of The Goon Show, and Major Bloodnok - "now's not the time to be thinking of women,Major" "well, tell me when it is and I'll be there"

for misspelling Trollope...

MCP!

dangskuLLANDBoneym · 23/10/2009 18:13

Now, Pogle, I'm sure you were channelling the Major; that's all.

As was my staffer, for he did a double-take, as though he thought I meant women! And he said, dead-pan, 'Certainly, Sir, but I'm not sure where I'd find any around here'. But I remembered that my chum had just finished his copy....

So what's all this about a concealed weapon, then - is it a water pisotl?

pollywobbledoodle · 23/10/2009 21:26

no trollope (or trollops) in my brain
very little dickins....
do i get to sit in the corner with a dunces hat on?

treacle, are you a spy?

dangskuLLANDBoneym · 23/10/2009 22:55

Or a gangster? Is it a custard pie?

('Night, all!)

treaclespongeofdeath · 23/10/2009 22:58

...It is a pistol - you never know when you might come across a dangerous beast round here...

MCP!

dangskuLLANDBoneym · 24/10/2009 13:02

Treacle, are you a private detective?

...he had a fair point, though - hardly likely to find Trollope on the march to Pekin! Sound chap, that - I don't believe a word of those rumours that he's a cowardly bully....

MCP?

Pogleswood · 24/10/2009 13:23

Aaargh - this does sound terribly familiar, llandb, but not, sadly, familiar enough to know who you are...

Treacle - dangerous beast as in wild animal?

AIBU to wear skin-tight lycra?

dangskuLLANDBoneym · 24/10/2009 13:48

Pogle, you're not the grandmother of a New Jersey bounty-hunter?

... Seems he disgraced himself at Rugby, but he's redeemed himself through active service. Surely he deserved that VC...

Pogleswood · 24/10/2009 14:11

Knew I should have let that one lie for a bit longer - but no,I'm not Grandma Mazur...
you're warm though...

And I don't know who you are,but your colleague must've been at school with Tom Brown, yes? Not sure if people do change that much - is it possible to get an accidental VC??

treaclespongeofdeath · 24/10/2009 15:09

Pogle, you must be Lula, in that case? You go girl!

And llandb, are you a bit of a flash one?

...I hear the wolves round here are very cunning...

treaclespongeofdeath · 24/10/2009 15:10

Sorry Pogle, looks like you got there first - didn't read your post properly

Pogleswood · 24/10/2009 15:18

Yes,Treacle - I did wonder where I was going to go with my next clue but thankfully you've spared me that!

Wolves,eh?

dangskuLLANDBoneym · 24/10/2009 21:37

Ah, well, Pogle, if Grandma Mazur can wear what she likes, then so can you!

Hmm, Pogle and Treacle, I don' actually remember who I am but possibly I'm Lord Elgin - and you're quite right about my staffer being a Flash one who is off to consort with the Dragon!

Pogle, is there a poncey tame dog in the pack? Or do you fancy some doctor dude?

And now... AIBU to be unaware that Genghis Khan is my ancestor?

MoominOnABroomstick · 24/10/2009 23:21

Evening all!

I need to catch up between bouts of attacking the mountain of dirty washing and hunting for mislaid toothbrushes.

But I'd say the U-ness lay in planning to knock down some poor chap's house on the sly rather than in not knowing your heredity, Llandb.

treaclespongeofdeath · 25/10/2009 11:34

Aah - pipped to the post by Moomin!

...so I keep my weapon in my underwear so it's always handy...

dangskuLLANDBoneym · 25/10/2009 13:35

Howdy, Moomin! How were the Cotswolds and did you acquire any books?

Ah well, all amounted to the same thing, thanks to those pesky Vogons. (Oops, I think this one was done in another thread!)

Goodness me, treacle, I hope you're female!

dangskuLLANDBoneym · 25/10/2009 13:36

Ooh, ooh, Treacle - werewolves?
(No idea even if so - MCP!)

Pogleswood · 25/10/2009 14:07

Hi Moomin! Did have have a good time in the Cotswolds, talking to your family and reading?!

Hi everyone else too,of course!

Having read your last several times Treacle,I'm not sure that "in my underwear" fits my definition of "handy" MCP!

MoominOnABroomstick · 25/10/2009 14:39

The Cotswolds were lovely, thank you, ridiculously pretty and I did manage to acquire a book or two - and read them, in between talking to the family, of course.

Sorry I missed Archer's Goon and The Warden but you've been doing some horrors, haven't you!

Treacle, I know you were acting in self-defence but you might have trouble explaining your new wolfskin coat to the anti-fur lobby, so I'd stick to the red cloak.

AIBU to drive a car at my husband?

dangskuLLANDBoneym · 25/10/2009 15:10

Aaaah at Treacle's

But otherwise NIMCP!

MoominOnABroomstick · 25/10/2009 15:50

...I suppose it sounds a bit U but you couldn't say it was a successful marriage, what with the DH being gay and me marrying him for his money...
