AIBU Books Game Part 5

1000 replies

MoominMymbleandMy · 04/10/2009 20:46

Now we've made it to a fifth thread!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to set all my sights on getting a rich husband?

OP posts:
pollywobbledoodle · 20/10/2009 22:11

says hello, scratches head, leaves the building....

dangskuLLANDBoneym · 20/10/2009 22:44

Er, says same...

CJCregg · 20/10/2009 22:50

Also head scratching ...

She even said I could sleep in her bed - bah, toffee-nosed princesses, what a waste of time!

Poledra · 20/10/2009 23:06

And after you'd got her golden ball back for her too, CJ - it's just not good enough!

Does anyone else regret posting wrong answers as they then think they could have used that character themselves, IYSWIM? Sybil Vimes would have been a corker to do......

Well, I'll save it up for thread 6

CJCregg · 20/10/2009 23:19

Well done, Pol, and thank you - I thought no one was going to get that one and was running out of clues.

Who is Sybil Vimes, pray? Sounds intriguing. And yes, I have done that, to much gnashing of teeth or chagrin as it's referred to in loftier circles ...

Poledra · 20/10/2009 23:31

I'm not telling you who she is! You'll find out on thread 6.......

Pogleswood · 21/10/2009 09:57

Morning! Do please do an AIBU with Sybil Vimes,Pol - she is one of my (many)favorite characters!
I am not off on an adventure, nor am I being fired - I feel that it would be wrong for me to stay...

And with that huge clue you must be featuring in "Archer's Goon",Treacle, which I've never read but which is now added to my huge "to read" list

CJCregg · 21/10/2009 10:14

Pogle, are you a teacher?

Pogleswood · 21/10/2009 10:22

No,not a teacher.

...my son in law thinks I am very foolish to be thinking of resigning...

treaclespongeofdeath · 21/10/2009 10:39

Well done, Pogle! You must read it, it's one of my favourite books by Diana Wynne Jones, have read it more times than I care to mention

You're not Lear, by any chance?

Pogleswood · 21/10/2009 14:14

Not Lear either.

..I feel I may have received income to which I was not entitled. The whole matter was brought up by a friend of my younger daughter;I know she is very fond of him,but now I'm afraid this matter will come between them...

pollywobbledoodle · 22/10/2009 11:07

pogle are you a politician?

dangskuLLANDBoneym · 22/10/2009 11:51

Morning!

MCP!

AIBU to go treasure-hunting? (We're hopping to another island now)

treaclespongeofdeath · 22/10/2009 11:57

More clues please Pogle!

Are you one of a large family, llandb? Or a pirate? (Arrrr)

dangskuLLANDBoneym · 22/10/2009 12:26

Ah, CJ (ribbit!) Much as I lament your taste in GF, I suppose you were not B all that U as you probably didn't meet many girls.

Pol, the trouble is, we'll all be looking out for Sybil now! And if you're not a politician then are you some other crooked type?

No, we're law-abiding gung-hoers. And the government has said that if we're prepared to risk our lives fetching the loot, we can keep 10%!

Pogleswood · 22/10/2009 13:41

Hello!
I am not a politician - if I was,I do not think this situation would be causing me the anxiety it is.My son in law may not understand but I am sure my good friend the Bishop will..
MCP!

dangskuLLANDBoneym · 22/10/2009 14:35

Ooh, whoops, sorry, skim-reading/typing again and getting everyone's names jumbled up on the page (but not in my head! No, I know who said what!)

Hmm, well, Pogle, did some funds accidentally rest in your account for a while?

Pogleswood · 22/10/2009 14:51

Its alright, llandb,I realise you have no idea who I am!(sniff...)

...No,it appears that the money which has been paying my salary may have been intended for the old men...

dangskuLLANDBoneym · 22/10/2009 15:10

I'll know, Pogle, just as soon as someone guesses your character

So are you a vicar-type character or an Excellent Woman-type character or something else?

As for me, I'm pretty handy with an aeroplane, but we're after an ice-packed ship...

treaclespongeofdeath · 22/10/2009 16:36

Gosh - I am completely stuck! More clues please!

Pogleswood · 22/10/2009 18:08

Ho,ho! (laughing at llandb's wit,not a clue!)

Yep,vicar type person...if I leave this job I will still have £150 a year,I hope that will be enough to live on,my daughter is engaged to her bold young man and he wishes to abandon his complaint against me,but the papers have taken up his cause...

dangskuLLANDBoneym · 22/10/2009 22:55

Hmm, puzzled.... MCP?

And there are some baddies about (sorry, you probably knew that, but I'm too brain-fried to think of any better clues )

'Night, All!

dangskuLLANDBoneym · 23/10/2009 10:22

Mornin'!

...yes, others know of the stash of gold aboad the Starry Crown...

treaclespongeofdeath · 23/10/2009 10:42

Are you a former fighter pilot, llandb? (Had to google - have not read that one )

I'm stuck with yours though Pogle - do you live in Wakefield? More clues please!

Pogleswood · 23/10/2009 10:50

Morning!
So,if my googling skills haven't failed me llandb, why are you not doing fighter ace type stuff as I'd expect?!

...I shall miss Hiram's Hospital, but I'm sure we will be happy...
