Pensions are not paid for out of tax paid 20 years ago.

People working today are currently paying the pensions of people drawing their money now.

The issue being, of course, is that with an ageing population the pension spend goes up and there are less people of working age to prop the whole scheme up.

Anyways as for your post, I don’t think the two are necessarily directly related. Clacton-on-Sea is the constituency with the highest number of PIP claimants and it’s a Reform stronghold.

It’s a moot point anyway. PIP will double by 2030, the same year the last of the Boriswave will receive ILR, and 4 years on from the current wave of layoffs, redundancies, AI steers, population increase, small business closures and offshoring that is currently taking jobs away.

Whoever is in government then will be forced to make a structural change to the welfare system whether they like it or no.

I suspect something along the lines of UBI, and another immigration wave with restrictions on workers having to stay in social care roles for the duration of their visas.
