Two things that have massively ruined the economy long term are things that the Conservatives did when in power.

Margaret Thatcher took the revenue from North Sea oil and the proceeds of selling off council houses with massive discounts and spent it all on privatising energy and water and what a success that has been! All the profits going on shareholder dividends while the infrastructure crumbles and the last new reservoir was created over 30 years ago. The Norwegian government used the profits from North Sea Oil to create a sovereign wealth fund for all its citizens which is now worth $2.2 trillion.

Then of course there is one of the most ridiculous examples of self-harm by a country with the Brexit vote.
