To absolutely hate this government, and what they are doing to our country?

Strong words but is is how I feel at this point in time. All of them make me feel physically sick. The latest example -

No wonder Labour won't cut benefits. More than half of Burnham's MPs represent seats where claimant count is higher than their Commons majority

https://www.dailymail.com/news/article-16147745/No-wonder-Labour-wont-cut-benefits-half-Burnhams-MPs-represent-seats-claimant-count-higher-Commons-majority.html

Half of Labour MPs in seats where PIP claims are higher than majority

Some 212 Labour MPs in England and Wales have more constituents on Personal Independence Payment (PIP) than their winning margin at the 2024 general election .

It's OK to have a fan girl thread about Burnham but not an unfavourable one! They do make up the rules as they go along. Good job they aren't in charge.

Imagine what a state we'd be in.. oh..

You hate the government….I detest Coventry City FC. I think that makes it all even stevens in my book.

The number of 'asylum seekers' has increased significantly every year since labour came to power.

You know that's not actually true, right?

Passaggressfedup · 21/09/2026 11:37

It's not news that people on benefits are more likely to vote Labour and pensioners to vote conservative.

We all vote in what we think is in our best interest. What are you so angry about?

And the old age pension is by far the largest part of the social security spend

Benefits need reigning in - massively. Never mind scrapping the child benefit cap, scrap child benefit. Have better benefits for those that fall on hard times. But if you have children knowing full well that someone else is going to have to pay for them is so wrong.

Does that include the 55% of DWP expenditure on pensions and related benefits?

🥱

I've missed all of these deletions (working and all), never mind! I am sure I didn't miss much.. Calling me racist? reform supporter? a bot?

Probably..

These people lost any credibility they might have had when they tried to tell us all that men were women, and we had to call these men women, and shut up complaining. The fact they were prepared to argue against actual science - tells us all we need to know.

It is the giving money to people with ADHD and the like that gets people's backs up. I have it. It is difficult but I function well despite it and don't need to take someone else's money off them because of it.

It is 100% correct. Sorry to disappoint you in your unfounded arrogance. Look at the migration observatory facts. Sigh.

Then they brag about voting Lib Dem as an equally moral party to Labour! Yeah, great for everyone but women.

Well at least those people have receipts for what they paid in so I don't think they will be being guilt tripped. I don't buy the argument that it's merely a benefit they are receiving.

I suppose putting the government popularity on a par with a football club sums up how seriously the country's welfare is taken.

CheeseToast17 · 21/09/2026 12:49

They are screwing over tenants, I can see they’re trying to help but they’ve now basically caused a huge loss of rental properties and condemned anyone with issues affording their rental to be tarred with a CCJ. All whilst not providing more council housing. It’s a perfect storm.

Maggie should never had done right to buy. She certainly shouldn't have actively stopped councils building replacements.

This country has been a shit show for some time.

The figures just don’t support that. Home Office data shows asylum claims down 21% in the latest year and small-boat arrivals down 23%. The Migration Observatory also says the initial-decision backlog has fallen 62% since Labour took office.

Some measures have risen notably the appeals backlog but “asylum seekers have increased significantly every year” simply isn’t true.

I agree with you whole heartedly. The country is a mess.

Explain why you think the government which has been in power for less than 3 years is responsible for the mess?

HollyhocksandPeons · 21/09/2026 13:55

angelos02 · 21/09/2026 12:06

Low skilled immigrants are more likely to be compliant, not question things, put up with low wages and bad work environments and a lower expectation of standard of living. In other words, big business welcome them.

Edited

Spot on, pure economics.

Working at what exactly? Posting articles from the Daily Mail on the internet, pushing misinformation about immigration..you are clearly very busy.

AtHomeWithThe · 21/09/2026 13:58

Goodness me @CoventryCity - is this your full time job, posting on MN?

Do you have any hobbies?

Maybe you should take some time to do some research and evidence reading rather than spreading even more misinformation and half truths.

The economist Richard J Murphy has estimated there is a tax gap.

Companies which shut down in the first year of trading have their tax liabilities end with them. They don't pay VAT, corporation tax, or anything else, and often the sole trader who wound them up starts a new company totally free of any tax liability.

We need to get the money we are due much more than we need to curb spending. Changing the law to make tax a personal and not company liability should be a priority.

The sum the government is missing out on is in the region of 17 billion pounds a year.

Interesting idea.
If I might say, yours is one of the better quality posts on this thread - not the usual ignorant partisan ranting.

Would you change the law to make corporation tax and vat a personal liability just for those companies that close within the year? Or more widely for all company directors of existing companies?

The direction of travel is for business taxes (corporate and self employed) to be paid earlier and earlier. In the past you paid the whole lot many months after your financial year end. Then it became quarterly during the year, based on estimated accounts, now they are moving to monthly payments for the current year, all based on estimates.
Which is a right pain for the business, and is effectively the government just bringing forward their income. There is a hard limit to how far they can go with this squeeze, and with monthly payments they have reached that limit.

It is a mess but I don’t think that’s the fault of Labour. They inherited a shit storm and while yes, there’s been things they’ve done I really don’t agree with (and I voted for for them) it was always going to take a lot of time and money to put things right; Brexit, Covid, austerity, numerous conflicts and of course Liz fucking Truss have all taken their toll. I don’t envy anyone who is being held responsible to sort this mess out.

I haven’t actually regretted voting Labour- mainly because the alternatives were worse, but I have thrown hands and gone “wtf are you doing?!” A few times.
