The Guardian’s offices are infested with bedbugs, in a fresh setback to the newspaper’s efforts to get journalists back into the newsroom.

And Labour also ended the private school VAT exemption and Tories were not having it.

You seem to be misinformed. The reason labour won’t cut benefits at the moment is that there have been two major consultations on disability benefits proposing major change. One of them has suggested that PIP isn’t fit for purpose and requires a complete overhaul. The other is consulting with the wider public and disability organisations as to what those changes should look like if meaningful support to disabled people is to be sustainable.

So the tools to do anything but make crude and damaging cuts doesn’t currently exist. For myself I would much rather have well thought out sustainable reform that provides proper support to those eligible, than back of the fag packet changes designed for nothing other than saving money. As usual no consideration given to the fact that just because you cut the benefit doesn’t mean the need disappears. It doesn’t save money, the cost just gets shifted to another - and in this case more expensive - part of the budget.

I don't hate disabled people. I dislike the people who overdo it and just claim and try their hardest not to work. I dislike people who are generally workshy and those who spend their whole lives claiming top ups instead of benefitted.

It is a payment to help disabled people live their lives , many of them are working, Pip helps then to be independent, to get a jobs nd actually to get to work, without it they would require much more state support , unless you think disabled people should be ignored and left to get along with their lives?. My disabled brother would have died without state support.
And whatever people like OP think Pip isn't easy to get or to keep getting.
What on earth is happening to this country? The UK used to be compassionate. I would much rather be hated for believing that vulnerable people should be supported than be so petty and selfish to believe that a Government should be hated for wanting to support people.

I hear you OP, we all lived in a land of milk and honey until July 2024, clean streets, unpolluted water ways, full employment, hardly anyone on benefits, an NHS that functioned like a well oiled machine, everyone could access a dentist, housing was plentiful and rents were affordable, food was good quality and did not take up a significant part of the family budget. We had a stable government with strong and lasting leadership, Brexit brought in all the predicted benefits and while Covid was of course a challenge, it was handled with expertise and calm and of course there was no corruption re the procurment of PPE and Test and Trace smoothly. Then those bastard communist cheated their way to power and look where we are!!! Thank you for being a Truth Teller 😀😀😀

The decline of the UK started under Blair's Government when Poland and Romania joined the EU and we were inundated with migrants willing to work for really low wages. Anyone who objected was shouted down accused of being a racist/bigot which eventually led to Brexit.
