To absolutely hate this government, and what they are doing to our country?

Strong words but is is how I feel at this point in time. All of them make me feel physically sick. The latest example -

A British asylum charity repeatedly tried to persuade judges that lying adult migrants were children, a Telegraph investigation has found.

Care4Calais, which distributes clothing, tents and food to migrants in northern France, supported balding and wrinkled asylum seekers who claimed to be under 18, helping them challenge Home Office assessments that they were adults.

The Telegraph uncovered a series of cases in which the charity helped migrants dispute official assessments of their age.

In one case, a Sudanese man in his 20s was placed in children’s accommodation after Care4Calais referred him to a local council.

Immigration courts later rejected such claims, finding that those involved had tried to deceive the authorities to gain the “advantages” of being treated as a child asylum seeker. These include access to school places and council accommodation rather than hotels used to house adult asylum seekers.

Most pensioners are net recipients by the age of 70 and over a lifetime will be taking out more than they've ever paid in.

I think it’s you who is embarrassing yourself OP. You’re woefully misinformed and clearly very bitter. Instead of believing all the right wing propaganda you read and placing blame at the doors of people you have a lot more in common with than you think, perhaps consider that the country is in the mess it’s in because the Tories spent over a decade looking after their rich cronies and cutting public services. There are huge corporations and many filthy rich members of society who are using every trick in the book to get out of paying taxes in this country, meaning that there is insufficient money in the pot. Perhaps your focus should be on forcing the government to close tax loopholes holes and ensure ruck corporations and the filthy rich pay their way. Please try to remember that you have a lot more in common with a disabled person claiming benefits than you do the super rich. Most of us are only one change of circumstances away from finding ourselves in a position where we need to claim benefits. I myself was diagnosed with a life changing illness totally out of the blue around 5 years ago. It changed my life beyond recognition and meant I had to fight tooth and nail to keep my well paid job and get adjustments put into place. I’m one of the lucky ones, who knew my rights and was strong enough to fight to stay employed thus never needing to claim benefits. Others aren’t as lucky. I sincerely hope you never find yourself being diagnosed with a horrible illness that impacts your ability to perform normal day to day tasks, but if you did I’d also very much hope that others showed you a lot more compassion and less judgement than you’re demonstrating towards disabled people with this post. Similarly I hope that if a war involving the uk breaks out (as is very likely), other countries would show you and I more compassion than you’re demonstrating for refugees. I’ll simply never understand why people always turn on the most vulnerable in society!

Perhaps if the OP responded to comments seeking evidence for her quoted statistics, instead of just replying with the standard phrases "do your research" or "embarrassed for you", we'd actually be able to have a decent, grown-up, intellectual debate.

I notice Reform are very quiet about the fact that before Brexit, the UK was a member of the EUs Dublin III Regulation, under which we could quickly and legally return unauthorised arrivals back to the first safe EU country they had set foot in.

This acted as a major deterrent. But since the UK officially left the EU and the Dublin agreement expired without a replacement returns policy, the legal mechanism to return arrivals to France has vanished, creating an incentive for gangs to ramp up crossings.

Yet people are still convinced 'man of the people' Farage will 'stop the boats.' What a shambles.
