AIBU to find pet-friendly cottages impractical if dogs cannot use furniture?

I’ve been looking at ‘pet friendly’ holiday cottages in the UK to take our dog and pretty much all of them say dogs are not allowed on furniture or in bedrooms.

I don’t think I know anyone who’s dogs don’t jump on the sofa so how are you supposed to mange this - take loads of covers or just stay at home?

I don’t ever have an issue - my dogs are allowed on the furniture in my own home but not elsewhere. They work that out pretty quickly 🤷‍♀️
where are you looking though - some companies are a damn sight more dogfriendly than others

Yes it is ridiculous, yes I ignore it. I take a load of brand new still in the box throws and change them everyday, like I do at home. I have never had a complaint or it even mentioned. We always leave the place immaculate (I also take my Dyson animal!)

Looking at south coast mainly.

Not sure our dog is clever enough to distinguish between home sofas and other ones! 😂

We've always managed to respect those rules. In an ideal world, the dog wouldn't be on the furniture at home either but she is a sneaky bugger and does it at night etc

How hard can it be to keep your dog off for the furniture just in the holiday accomodation? They can still be allowed on the furniture at home if that’s what you want.

Omg. My dog was never allowed on furniture. I think that is gross. I’d hate to stay somewhere where animals have sat on the sofa etc.

Yes, exactly that. Take clean throws for them to sit on or stay at home. It’s not complicated.

Also, plenty of dogs are trained never to be on the human furniture at home.

Primark or Asda so not much! I take them home to wash in the dog washer and use them at home. I have a lot of dogs (they don’t all travel with me!) so I use a lot anyway.

I’ve never known a dog allowed on furniture. The very most would be a dog bed or dog blanket on top of a chair, but dog would never be directly on the chair. I would be appalled to think a guest had let their dog be on the furniture, even in a pet-friendly cottage.

But you’ll be right there? I’m not understanding why you can’t just tell them to get off. And put something on the sofa overnight (kitchen chair?) if you think they’ll sneak up.

How exactly are you meant to keep dogs off the sofas when you’re asleep in the bedrooms at night (where they’re also not allowed to go)? With the best will in the world, I’m not sure there’s much you can do without constant supervision, so using throws brought from home is probably the next best option 🤷‍♀️

My dog wasn’t allowed on sofas or beds, no way would I want to rent a cottage that has had dogs in bedrooms or on the sofa.

My old dog had access to the sofas and bed at home. If I went on holiday with her, I would take a clean throw to cover the furniture with.
I have always stayed in caravans/lodges, so no upstairs.

If throws have been used and it’s been throughly cleaned, you’d never know.

If it says on the listing pets not allowed on furniture, I dont book it. If it doesnt say, I take clean throws and a lint roller, and if whenI get there there are rules that weren't on the listing, then the throws still go on and the dog goes on the sofa.She's elderly, she goes on the sofa at home, and cries if she cant sit with us

So many places that think 'dog friendly' just means leaving a Bonio and a towel out. I even found one which said dog friendly but dogs were only allowed in the kitchen!

My dog wasn’t allowed on our sofa at home or upstairs in our house. It is possible.

This seems to be a modern thing. Dogs were never allowed on the furniture years ago.
OP, do you allow your dog on the furniture when visiting friends?

I’m older than dirt and I grew up with our dogs on the furniture. For some people, it has always happened.

Yes because all our friends have dogs that are allowed on sofas - that’s my point - I get that there are people who don’t approve but I’d be surprised if it was the majority of dog owners.

I'm 57 and I never went to bed without the family dog curled up at the end of it when I was a kid.

It isn’t, I don’t know anyone who doesn’t allow it. I am currently on the sofa, buried under my dogs. It’s my happy place 🥰

I just take a couple of throws, chuck them on when we arrive and it’s always been fine.

I take the dogs bed with us on holiday, she has somewhere comfy to chill/sleep.
