AIBU to find pet-friendly cottages impractical if dogs cannot use furniture?

I’ve been looking at ‘pet friendly’ holiday cottages in the UK to take our dog and pretty much all of them say dogs are not allowed on furniture or in bedrooms.

I don’t think I know anyone who’s dogs don’t jump on the sofa so how are you supposed to mange this - take loads of covers or just stay at home?

A lot of things people do on public transport are disgusting. Feet on seats, filing nails, picking noses, vomiting, coughing without covering their mouths, weeing and so on. We could have a humans are disgusting thread that covers everything.

@neverendingnonsense

dont care. Doesn’t mean it’s ok for inconsiderate dog owners to have their dogs on the sheets shedding their hairs and slobby and shitty uncovered arseholes where people are going to be sitting in nice clothes. It’s never ok. The dogs can sit on the floor. There is NO reason for them to be on the seats EVER.

Either way, I care as much about your opinion as you do mine. Feel free to continue ranting though.

@neverendingnonsense

thank you - I will!

especially seeing as lots of other people agree with me - they don’t want dogs on train seats either!

surely you don’t think dogs on train seats is ok?

Well, they haven't paid for a ticket for a start 😁

I’m not sure where I said I did. I just added to the list of things humans do that are disgusting. You went off on one, not caring, random capitals, and talking about dog’s bums (again).

Don’t bother quoting me again, you’re not even reading the threads you’re trying to start an argument about.

This is completely not related to the thread at all, but I’m baffled by how many posters don’t let their dogs on their sofas, or sleep on the bed, or go upstairs or let them in certain rooms etc of their own homes!!!

I can’t imagine cat owners not letting the cats on the sofa, or not letting them sleep on the bed or not letting them go upstairs etc.

Is this just a dog thing?!

Dogs “using” furniture makes me think of things like this

What about ticks and Lyme disease too?

Given Lyme disease can A)Be cured like many ailments can, with antibiotics and B) is only carried by 4% of ticks in the UK, I am willing to take the risks. We've no idea what sort of diseases we come into contact with every time we're around humans, I am not going to start flapping over a tiny risk of an easily curable disease. FWIW I walk in and visit a lot of rural areas very regularly, lived in the countryside as a child, have never not had a dog and I have never as much as seen a tick.

Be baffled 😁
Our cats were lap cats, but didn't sleep on furniture or our beds. They had a cats' cradle that affixed to a radiator which they loved, and slept in the kitchen at night in their own little beds.

puppysleepdeprivation · 19/09/2026 13:56

I do think it's odd that a dog-friendly cottage wouldn't allow dogs everywhere. It defeats the purpose of the dog-friendliness if there are limitations on where the dog can be, assuming the dog isn't muddy or otherwise filthy.

Yes, my dogs are allowed on our furniture and in our bedroom (and on the bed). We're still alive after years of these vile atrocities.
