Blindness is a serious disability. Not some word to be chucked around for marketing attention. There are a lot of other words that could have been used - mystery box, suprise box.

That's a normal name for mystery boxes.. seems you are singling out m&s for no reason

SevenYellowHammers · Today 15:48

“surprise” might have been a bit more jolly

canklesmctacotits · Today 15:51

"Blind" is used in other contexts than visual impairment. This isn't "marketing attention", it's one of those other uses. If you are bothered by this usage, you should be bothered by them all.

How do you feel about blind baking? Is that offensive?

thisfilmisboring123 · Today 15:51

This isn’t a new M&S thing.

They’ve been referred to as such for years.

Alwayschillyatnight · Today 15:51

Maybe there's some personal background that makes you a bit more sensitive, but blind is a word that's used in all sorts of contexts, like a blind corner, blind bend, blind spot, going in blind, blindsided - i don't think you can police this.

However I do agree that surprise or mystery or lucky dip would sound more appealing to me!

runnerducky · Today 15:52

Just as well Cilla is no longer with us.

Jerrybalanitis · Today 15:53

Offensive? I wish we could see if these are real people posting and if so, what they look like. The mind boggles.

Error404FucksNotFound · Today 15:55

Youre allowed to find whatever you want offensive.

I dont think it is. Blind box, blind date, blind baking, blind bend etc etc.

Julynian · Today 15:56

Not the point of your post at all, but who on earth wants these tacky plastic pigs hanging on their Christmas tree anyway. I can’t image they will sell many!

Pre-baking pastry before putting the filling in.

mtobrokeme · Today 16:02

Do you get paid to be offended by everything? I often wonder.

ExistWHY · Today 16:03

How about blind date, blind drunk, blind stupid, blind bastard, in the blind, going in blind, im sure there is more.

How can you get offended over a word.

DilkushaKitchen · Today 16:03

CrazyMidget · Today 15:57

What on earth is blind baking?

When you bake a pastry case a bit first before adding the filling.

Grumpyoldcat · Today 16:03

Dont buy them if you are offended.

Lindy2 · Today 16:03

Blind is a word in the English language that can be used in a variety of ways.

Blind bags is normal language.

I'm afraid your outrage is misplaced.

PrizedPickledPopcorn · Today 16:04

What on earth is blind baking?

Standard technique for baking a pastry shell without the contents in. It means the pastry cooks properly without the exposed edges burning. Used for flans that will go back in the oven, or just as a crisp pastry shell that will be filled with something that doesn’t need the oven again.

You have to prick the pastry, cover with parchment and beans/weights before baking.

So make a pastry case, blind bake it, fill with deliciousness and serve.

Balloonhearts · Today 16:04

You need significantly less time on your hands.

And what about the show Blind Date? Cilla must condemn
