AIBU to find Dawn French's latest Trump comments more sad than funny?

I can't link Dawn French's latest rant, about Trump, but, if anyone else has seen it, do you find it funny. Or just feel very sorry for her?

It's indicative of the left's self-congratulatory approach of just virtue signalling rather than actually making an argument and making a difference.

As such I find it more sad than funny, but I don't feel sorry for her; I feel angry at her complacency.

Why is it up to the left to make a difference? What difference have those on the right made?

Why

allthingsinmoderation · Today 11:34

It's not her views on Trump i find unnerving but the delivery is very strange ,reminds me of the videos by Nadia Sawalha, i do think it comes across weird.
I'm wondering if Dawns driving ban has pushed her over the edge mentally...

I think it's fine to make fun of Trump.

100%.

If he can mock a disabled journalist, people can mock him. He reaps what he sows.

She's not doing a TV show, she's doing a message on social media, It doesn't have to be perfect

It's not just not perfect is it though? It's meant to be funny and it's not.

Humour is very subjective.

Two2ToToo · Today 12:09

She’s lost the plot. I used to love her in French and Saunders but this is just embarrassing!

Ialwaysthoughtitwasadojo · Today 12:17

Trump is fair game, he's a dangerous vile man. Seeing how he's been treating female journalists recently is abhorrent, intimidating them if they ask questions he doesn't like or want to answer.

I must admit having read this thread I was expecting something awful, but Dawn French has always been a bit more abstract with her characters. I don't personally find her that funny, and this isn't funny, but it's quite far away from a 'mental break down'.

darkling2 · Today 12:19

nomas · Today 10:56

She's pretending to be Trump with the baby voice.

She is allowed to support Palestine if she wants to you know, it's not a crime.

Yes, she's certainly allowed to use a baby voice and mockingly disparage and attempt to minimise the slaughter of the 1200 unarmed civilians - babies, girls, boys and families who were raped and murdered by the terrorist organisation Hamas, at a festival during the cease fire which was then in place, all of which was filmed by their rapist terrorist murderers on Go Pros they strapped to their bodies, for fun and entertainment purposes.

We know she is allowed to do this, because she did it.

Nobody suggested it was a crime for her to be such a disgusting piece of filth.

And nobody with an ounce of decency has to be a Trump supporter to write her off, forever, for having done so.

HTH.

FreshJalapenos · Today 12:20

Haven’t seen it but not interested in what the woman has to say since she openly mocked people who were upset by 7th October

Same. Trump is eminently mockable, but Dawn's piece on him is execrable. I actually couldn't get all the way through it, all I could think was 'get to the bloody point woman, if you have one!'. In the end I was too bored to continue watching.

Strangely, I found her meandering delivery rather like his. But it's not because she's using that style to mock him all the more, because it's the same delivery she used in her despicable mewling attack on Israelis.

Mentally, I think it's entirely possible she's demented.

Is that not obvious?

To be honest, I hope there is some actual reason for her horrifying behaviour, first mocking and minimising the horrifying slaughter of 1200 civilians by terrorist animals during a ceasefire, and now continuing with her bizarre and unfunny baby voice musings - I used to think she was reasonably bright, but I now think perhaps she was just good at reading her lines.

I don't wish dementia on her, but at least that would give us a reason for her frankly odd and decidedly unamusing behaviour. Or perhaps she's got a drinking problem, or something similar.

For what it's worth to you, she apologised.

I can't ever see Trump apologising can you?

Dawn French wears a black coat at a function and is looking at the camera.

Dawn French sorry for 'one-sided' Gaza war video

The video sparked a backlash with critics accusing her of appearing to "mock" the 7 October 2023 attack.

Didn't she grovellingly apologise the last time the public told her, en masse, to please shut the fuck up too?

Edited to add - oh you mean the first time she humiliated herself.

Yes, after an absolutely massive backlash she did indeed grovellingly apologise. Learned nothing, apparently. Still trying the unfunny, excessively odd baby voice routine.

Needs a scriptwriter if she's going to keep flapping her gums in public.

Beryls · Today 12:29

Her and Nadia Sawalha have lost the plot, the weird too-up-close videos and the weird voices are very disturbing. I think they're both suffering from a mental illness, I don't understand why the people close to them don't stop them from embarrassing themselves. Hating Jews leads to people progressively becoming more and more unhinged, as we know. Should be studied really.

I always think that people who act like this undermine very valid criticisms.

The hyperbole, childishness and petty nastiness makes it seem like they don't have a good point that can stand on its own merits.
