AIBU to find Dawn French's latest Trump comments more sad than funny?

I can't link Dawn French's latest rant, about Trump, but, if anyone else has seen it, do you find it funny. Or just feel very sorry for her?

OP posts:

I can't stand Trump, but still, this is incredibly unfunny. Normally find Dawn funny and love much of what she has done - including her work with Jennifer Saunders, but this is 0/10 funny for me. Zero comedy/zero funniness.

You think it's ok to make fun of anyone who is incontinent?

I think it's fine to make fun of Trump.

So her being rude about Trump justifies you being rude about her?

Freysimo · Today 09:41

It's not remotely original or funny and I really hope Marks aren't using her for Christmas ads this year.

Utterlybutter · Today 09:42

I think she's having a mental breakdown.

Is that you, Donald? ;-)

I think she's v unfunny these days. And my opinion of her has also been lowered by her driving ban - after yet another speeding offence.

No, just Trump. Who became incontinent due to one of the children he was abusing attacking him. Release the Epstein files - its all in there.

SmallDFartyCarNRG · Today 09:46

I have just got her latest book to read.
I doubt she is saying anything others haven't said about Trump - orange baby, narc, stupid, dangerous. We all know. They voted him in because the other option was a woman. Shock horror!

Davros · Today 09:46

I’ve never liked her “comedy”, it was all fat jokes, often at her own expense but really? Is that all she’s got unless she’s with Jennifer who is far more talented. I think she’s a good actress but nothing special

Twiglets1 · Today 09:47

She isn't funny anymore so is trying to use easy targets for cheap laughs.

Katflapkit · Today 09:51

Seriously, someone needs to change the password code and only let her have supervised access to it. It's so embarrassing.

Did she learn nothing from her late night anti-Semitic rant? She took it down was and make an awkward apology saying, she thought everyone was waiting for her to comment on Gaza. As if? Desperate to stay relevant when her time has passed.

persephoneee · Today 09:52

I had a look without sound or captions, I didn't recognise her at all. That's the most interesting bit for me!

runnerducky · Today 09:54

Is she pissed perhaps? Maybe her phone needs a breathalyser.

Dollymylove · Today 10:01

Im not on X so not seen it. I used to love Dawn French and especially the Vicar of Dibely but after that awful anti Jewish rant with that vomit-inducing babyish talk, I cant bear to even look at her face ever again 😡

SpanThatWorld · Today 10:02

I think French and Saunders were trailblazers but, because they were some of the first women in alternative comedy, they got away with a lot of stuff that wasn't all that funny. I never found her gurning and baby voices funny.

As someone whose late husband - proud, strong and dignified as he was - was incontinent in later life, I find the scorn for people facing this challenge deeply depressing. People who would never laugh at wheelchairs or blindness and would never use words like cripple or spastic think that it's hilarious to talk about "shitting in a nappy" or laugh at incontinence in older people.

And no amount of hating Trump is an excuse for encouraging mockery of one of the most common and humiliating aspects of decline with age.

I genuinely cannot stand the man, but we should challenge and mock things he says and does by choice, not the failings of his body.

darkling2 · Today 10:03

Just after Hamas slaughtered and raped girls to death and filmed it on their Go Pros for a laugh, French made a video slagging off the Israelis and made a sneering face and did a baby voice saying "yeah, but they did a bad thing to us" - she was mockingly pretending to speak for the 1200 babies, girls, boys and families who were raped and murdered by the terrorist organisation Hamas, at a festival during the cease fire which was then in place.

Now, no matter how much of anti semite you might be, you don't publicly use a baby voice to attempt to minimise the slaughter of the raped and murdered children of Jewish people, at a festival, by a terrorist organisation wearing Go Pros, filming the slaughter for a laugh.

And yet, she did.

Unquestionably. No matter what you are about to try to say about "both sides" this is exactly what she did, she chose in public, irrefutably, to mock in an attempt to minimise the raped and murdered babies, girls, boys, families who are at the festival when Hamas the terrorist organisation attacked them unprovoked during the cease fire.

And she only "apologised unreservedly" after an enormous backlash.

So nothing that vicious creature says or does is a surprise to me anymore.

And no, you don't have to be a Trump fan to know she is a foul creature and that on the day she mocked the slaughtered, raped children of the Jews by a terrorist organisation, she ceased to ever be worth listening to again.

I don't understand why celebrities feel that we ought to listen to their voices on any issue. I agree with Ricky Gervais - be an actor/comedian/member of Royal Family etc... but stop talking about other things unless you are an expert in that area. If you want to help with an issue then go and provide help in some practical form. Stop telling everyone your opinion on social media.

Dollymylove · Today 10:06

@darkling2 Spot on.
Absolutely.
Spot on 👏👏👏👏👏👏

FurthestEdge · Today 10:07

I despise Trump but this just isn't funny. The delivery isn't funny. I've got friends who would do better.

viques · Today 10:13

The more I see of Dawn French the more I realise how much of the heavy lifting Jennifer Saunders was doing in that partnership.

Julynian · Today 10:18

I’ve always loved her as a comedian and comedy actor. French and Saunders together were wonderful, and the Vicar of Dibley is still one of my favourite ever programmes.
Lately, perhaps because of social media platforms, she’s changed her style of comedy to this silly style of attempt at politicalsatire. Perhaps it appeals to some, or perhaps just gets her attention, but I just don’t find her funny at all anymore. Her post mocking the Hamas attack was absolutely vile and whenever I see her I’m reminded of that.

EasternStandard · Today 10:25

@darkling2yep she lost it there.

Davros · Today 10:29

Is she friends with Miriam Margolyes?
