I do need a holiday, and I need people to focus on the OPs actual question like a grown up instead of using it as any opportunity to divert the topic around to preach about whatever their current self righteous personal project is; in this case, the state of the world and how OP needs to fix it by not going on holiday abroad.

What’s your closest airport? See where they fly too and pick the one that has the airport closest to the centre. You don’t want to spend your time on transfers. AI is pretty good for this. Put in where you want to go, maximum travel time, and what you like doing.

Op, you don’t need to get the train to Scotland. You could just fly, I usually do. Edinburgh is amazing this time of year.

It doesnt matter if you dont "believe" vegan is healthy or good for the planet. What matters is the science and a plant based diet is listed by climate scientists as one of the most impactful things, even above stopping flying and is also supported by the leading nutrition body in the Uk as safe for every stage of life, and has many well documented benefits including longevity. You shouldn't be lecturing people if you're not able to look at the science when it doesnt suit you and just go off "vibes" instead, which is the exact thing these short term flyers are doing.

What do you like doing on holiday? History, museums, wandering round pretty towns, eating/drinking? How important are budget and weather? So many places to choose from. I’ve not looked at where you can fly to from the southwest (we’re London) but, ignoring Italy, and anywhere that I think needs more than two days, consider Seville, Nuremberg, Bremen, Hamburg, Leiden (from Amsterdam), Poznan, Tallinn, Cologne, Salzburg, Vilnius, Valencia, Rotterdam, Dubrovnik, Porto, Geneva.

Amsterdam or Gibraltar.

Madrid is one of my favourites.

I am prepared to look at the science. I have and I make my choices. I am not a vegan and never will be. I choose to eat a diet that is local to me not avocados and vegan food flown halfway round the planet. I make conscious choices every day about where my food comes from.

But that is not the point. If we all do what we can then every little bit adds up. None of have to be perfect. We just have to be doing what we can do. I’m not even suggesting not going on holiday at all. I’m suggesting not going on holiday for the sake of it. To a destination you have no great desire to see. The OP has had numerous other holidays abroad this year. She doesn’t have any great desires to go to any of the places suggested. She just wants to get away. There are plenty of amazing places to see at home in the Uk. She doesn’t have to fly. That’s all

But when you look at how much it costs it’s basically the same as a trip abroad ☹️ Edinburgh has always been on my list.

To be honest I just want a weekend away, but uk breaks are just too expensive for what they are.

I don't get the snarky comments to people that highlight there is a real problem with climate crisis. People that are aware of the issue, taking it seriously and taking personal responsibility to do what they can, however small. Unfortunately the majority are ignoant or don't care but why put someone down that does?
We will all be forced to change our lifestyles eventually - that's not an if, just a when. I hope the people that rolled your eyes and yawned all remember how you mocked others for caring.

It’s chaotic but oh my god you’ll want to do it again if you do it. We’ve done Friday to Sunday…still my kids favourite holiday and they’ve been a few places.
