To ask where you would fly for a long weekend?

Saturday to Monday so truly a flying visit. Flying from the southwest.

In the last 2 years, we’ve done 2 nights in Paris, Amsterdam, Rome, Seville, Barcelona and Dublin. Admittedly, all from London, but nice short flights.

The emissions for flights are generally quoted per seat. An averagely short haul flight in economy is about the same emissions per mile as driving the same distance in a smaller combustion fuelled SUV with driver only occupancy.

Cars are bad. Flying is worse.

Are you close to Exeter airport? Not sure there's much choice from there but Dublin, Belfast or the Channel Islands? I don't know where you can fly to from Bristol. You can go to Amsterdam from Southampton.

If you were going from London I'd say Copenhagen too. Except I've heard terrible stories about queues there. For a weekend, I'd want to avoid spending half the time in EES-related queues.

Apparently people are too selfish and greedy to bother giving it up according to this thread! So depressing. Thousands have died this year as a direct result of climate change but that’s ok so longs as they can go on their holidays!!!

We went to San Sebastian in Northern Spain a few years ago in October. Flew to Bilbao and an hour's bus.

It was lovely, beach, shops, Michelin star restaurant and lots of pintxo. Highly recommend.

The shortest I've done recently is fly into Venice late Friday afternoon and fly back on Sunday morning. It was winter so much quieter than usual and really loved just walking around.

You know that the airline are not actually going to be scheduling a flight just for OP and that the plane is going whether she is on or off it?

Arguably if the plane is going anyway then its better for her to be on it than driving miles in a car?

Or are you really the perfect vegan who never buys anything you don't need, recycles and upcycles everything, works for an entirely ethical company and only ever travels in an eco way? So where do you go and what do you recommend?

Even if it's just one it's a start isn't it. Flying for a 1 or 2 week holiday is bad but lots of people do it - still culturally acceptable ( on MN anyway)
Flying for the weekend just blows my mind - just rude.

If you're open to UK breaks there are flights from Southampton to Scotland/N. Ireland.

Not necessarily better weather but if the flights are cheap good to see some other UK cities and the people have been friendly any time I've visited.

I second San Sebastián. Absolutely beautiful and amazing Tapas .

I am in Croatia for my yearly flight. Very sad that the owners of the original destination property had to be evacuated due to a huge fire. They were lucky to get away with not losing their property - or indeed their lives. Around 14,000 acres have burned so far including properties, trees and animals.

They haven't had any rain here for months and there is still risk from the fire. This is a photo she sent me from Friday night entitled 'apocalypse'. Just posting for info not judgement.

@blankspacer- looks horrible for all concerned- but surely (atleast partly) caused by climate change 🤔

@Burgeroffff- I mean the planets on fire but hey if the tapas is good go for it!

I would give Cophengan a miss - experiensive and less enjoyable than all the above.

Bratasliva is very small & dull - one day is more than enough.

Anywhere in Croatia requires more than a long weekend.

For the price of a train ticket and hotel there I can fly abroad. It’s just not worth it

walks and superb restaurants.
