To say all pro-Palestinians should watch Fauda on Netflix?

Now it is a drama about how the Israeli security services deal with the conflict but it is apparently pretty accurate and is amazingly well produced and acted.

Season 5, which covers Oct 7th has just come out after a long delay.

I've had to take a break after episode 7 because it's so distressing but it still doesn't even come close to what happened that day.

I think it's gives a clearer idea as to the truth of what has been going on and it does try to give a perspective from both sides.

I think every pro-Palestinian should watch it.

We do know what happened. And we know that October 7th is one terrible incident in a much longer history of terrible things. Where Israel has done and continues to do terrible things.

A visual list of all the "terrible incidents" that befell Jews at the hands of Arabs before 1948. Almost like they didn't start it.

No wait wasn’t it Mossad. Those pesky Jews have always brought it on themselves.

Like 1929 Hebron. When good old Hajj amin Al Husseni decided to stir up an Arab mob against the Jews in that Palestinian city which is weirdly named after Hebrews? Who do you think they might be.

Oh do dispense with the dramatics af making things up. You’re not 5, grow up.

im saying pro-pals VERY rarely “just” criticise the Israeli government. In every instance ive seen they use, even in its smallest measure, antisemitic language.

Do you even care to hear how you can criticise the Israeli government and NOT be antisemitic?

Edited

That isn’t what you said in your previous post but you added in some personal insults so I’m sure we’re all convinced. Well done.

No, I don’t want you to tell me how you believe it is acceptable for me to criticise the Israeli government. As I’ve said (but you prob haven’t read yet due to cross posting) I believe it is acceptable to criticise anybody if I believe they are doing wrong, whatever their race, ethnicity or religion.

peddles antisemitic tropes, even if they don’t realise it

Do you mean criticises Israel for things you don’t think Jews should be criticised for?

Edited

No, we mean singling out Israel or exercising double standards, applying ancient tropes like the idea "Zionists are running the world", or the notion Israelis are singularly bloodthirsty and violent by nature.

The IHRA has a useful list detailing this. You may want to check it out.

So you'd accept say, the vilification of all Muslims because of the actions of some terrorists? No. Didn't think so. You'd call for the annihilation of Saudi Arabia over their actions in Yemen? No. Again. Didn't think so.

Surely you'd support sanctions against China over what they're doing to the Uyghurs? No. Strange.

Seems like you're not such an "equal opportunities criticiser" after all.

FeeFiFoFiddlyFum · Yesterday 22:37

No, no you don't understand! October 7th was an accident. They were never intending to do any of those things! I just kind of ... happened! Thousands of people slipped on a trigger or detonator at the same time. Those men just tripped on a banana skin and happened to fall on top of the women...

Why are you claiming the attitudes of pp on this thread are anything like this? There have been so many claims that people who criticise Israel minimise and deny the atrocities of October 7 but I’ve not seen one poster do this. Or are you not talking about people on this thread in which case perhaps you could clarify that?

Even one episode?

It’s exactly what I said. We can read back you know.

How surprising that you don’t want to learn about antisemitic tropes that are harmful to Jews to world over. Colour me shocked.

funny how NO pro-pals EVER want to be educated on antisemitism, what it looks like and how you can not be antisemitic

Um.... various people on this thread have tried to Minimise and deny October 7th already. Saying things like

  • Israel knew and let it happen to "justify genocide"
  • All the hostages were killed by their own people.

I am also expecting someone to bring up "rape dogs" soon.

The thing is I HAVE heard of a war before. When you look at what other countries for example do to their own populations, and others (examples already mentioned on this thread), it’s absolutely horrifying - but then there’s never criticism of those countries. There are atrocities happening right now in greater numbers to non-terrorist states, and there’s radio silence across the world. The Uyghurs in China is particularly horrific. Yet I fail to see the boycott of Chinese goods. My Chinese friends aren’t being demanded for their opinions on it like my Jewish friends are of Israel.

Bit odd, no?

Let’s look closer to home - what we did in Iraq. Genuinely illegal to a country that posed zero threat. Nobody demands or demanded to boycott the U.K.

176,000 Afghan civilians died after the result of 9/11 - in which just 3,000 people died. Nobody called it a genocide. Why not?

think hard - why is Israel held to such an insanely different standard?

Many of us know exactly why, everyone else is either in denial or being obtuse.

I must live on a different planet to you, or a different country at least.

Look up the “Stop the War” March against the Iraq war in February 2003. One of the largest demonstrations the UK has ever seen.

There was also a great deal of international condemnation of the UK’s role in the Iraq war from various countries.

Maybe in your world no-one cares about other wars. My experience differs.

And if you think no-one has criticised the US and its allies for the death and destruction it has caused in its various wars, where have you been?

I was on that very March! I strongly objected the war, and still do.

But I never heard the word “genocide” or people chanting “Death to the British Army”. Nobody called for the U.K. to be excluded from Eurovision, nobody said the USA shouldn’t be in the Olympics. I never got harassed and told to leave hotels when I went on holiday elsewhere, and American teams didn’t get banned from sporting events.

Why did none of that ever happen?

FuadaFan · Yesterday 22:59

It makes you think though.

You make a thread suggesting pro-Palestinians watch a drama depicting the events of Oct 7th.

Only a fictional depiction mind (although representing a bit of what happened that day) and a very tame one.

The real videos would probably be too traumatising for most people to watch. I was mucked up for days after seeing Shani Louk's body, the decapitation of the poor Thai farm worker, the burnt body of a woman with her legs open and nails visible sticking out of her vagina. The pregnant belly of a woman being hacked open.

The pro-Pals could have just stamped their feet and said No, I won't watch, it's hasbara or some such disingenuous nonsense but all they're doing is arguing over Israel's response (and if you saw the real videos you'd understand exactly why Israel won't stop until Hamas is gone), throwing in anti Israel propaganda and going on about a non existent genocide. Barely disguising their view that Jews can't even have Oct 7th to be understood and actually be the victims!

It makes me sick.

But you’ve used “Jews” as a collective term. You didn’t says Israeli’s, you said jews. So who or what exactly did you mean??

Or was it a Freudian slip?

This is another problem pro-pals have - collectively blaming Jews or equating Israel to “Jews”

Edited

Do you really need this explained? Could you not just follow the logic of the discussion?

I have not “blamed Jews” or “equated Israel to “Jews””.

I do not believe that unfair accusations of antisemitism should be used to try to stifle criticism of Israel.

The collective noun for people to whom antisemitism is directed are Jews. Hence my use of the collective term Jews.when discussing this.

Oh yes.

Whenever I see a Palestinian flag profile on Facebook or Instagram, I always have a click and sure enough it takes about 3 scrolls before some tripe about “Only 271k died in the Holocaust” or similar. Embarassing, and dangerous.
Never seen a pro-Israel person deny the Holocaust.

Don't you find it odd as well that pro-Israelis don't generally accuse pro-Pals of being paid by Qatar/the IRGC?

We just assume they've fallen for Islamist propaganda due to either ingrained antisemitism or just being a bit dumb and wanting to jump on the bandwagon.

People get to bang drums at the protests and shout catchy slogans after all and I guess some people think they look rather fetching in a keffiyeh. Susan Sarandon seemed to have had a silk one made!

I don't think we ever accuse them of being paid though. Not that I've seen anyway, and I'm on X a lot and always getting accused of it.

Which is rather generous of us, we really should normalise calling them stupid considering they fall for actual Hamas terrorist propoganda, and the exact same propaganda peddled by Nazis in the 1930’s.

You are making things up that I’ve said again. Why? Just why? It’s getting to the point it’s almost funny how desperate you are to vilify me that you keep making stuff up.

To clarify (not that it will make any difference to you) I have said nothing to suggest I believe, and I do not believe, that all Israelis should be vilified for the actions of the government and the IDF. I have not called for the annihilation of Israel or anyone.

So your questions make no sense.

Incidentally are you an “equal opportunities defender”? Are you on threads for days on end discussing all these other issues? Or just ones relating to Israel?
