To say all pro-Palestinians should watch Fauda on Netflix?

Now it is a drama about how the Israeli security services deal with the conflict but it is apparently pretty accurate and is amazingly well produced and acted.

Season 5, which covers Oct 7th has just come out after a long delay.

I've had to take a break after episode 7 because it's so distressing but it still doesn't even come close to what happened that day.

I think it's gives a clearer idea as to the truth of what has been going on and it does try to give a perspective from both sides.

I think every pro-Palestinian should watch it.

Of course there is but I haven't seen any on this thread so why bring up antisemitism unless it is to stop the criticism of netanyahu and his government?

"I haven't seen any" doesn't mean it doesn't exist. I bring up antisemitism because any discussion of this conflict is often saturated with negative stereotypes and assumptions about Israelis. Not just the government, but the entire population. In a country that is literally home to half the world's Jews you cannot honestly say the two are not connected.

I was talking specifically about October 7th and about how some people use the Hannibal Directive as a blanket explanation to what happened on that day.
I’ve seen that being done on social media more than once.
Over 1200 people were killed that day, and if someone responds to this with ‘hmmm, the Hannibal Directive in action’, it is of course total nonsense and a horrible (and wildly inaccurate) claim.

Fair enough. That is not how I interpreted your post but thanks for clarifying.

FeeFiFoFiddlyFum · Yesterday 11:52

EnglishLady02 · Yesterday 11:34

They're not unaware no. They just minimise, deny or justify what happened that day.

I have seen no minimising, denying or justifying of the horrors of the October 7 massacre on this thread. None whatsoever. Have I missed it?

And if you think it is deliberate minimising, denying and justifying rather than ignorance, why would watching Fauda make any difference to anyone’s views, which is presumably OP’s hope?

inamarina · Yesterday 11:56

FeeFiFoFiddlyFum · Yesterday 11:43

Do you know why the Hannibal Directive exists? I'll enlighten you.

Yes, I know why but that’s not stopped you “explaining” anything yet so why would it this time?

Something is not a conspiracy theory if it has happened.

And just to be clear, I didn’t bring up the Hannibal Directive. I responded to a post claiming it was not used on October 7 and suggesting that no Israelis were killed in its use, which you yourself have agreed is untrue.

Again, I didn’t explicitly say in my post that ‘it was not used on October 7 and suggesting that no Israelis were killed in its use’. I said it gets mentioned as an explanation for the hundreds of deaths on that day.
14 people out of over 12,000 is quite a small number, yet some people make it sound as if hundreds were killed by that directive on October 7th. That’s what I was referring to.

FeeFiFoFiddlyFum · Yesterday 12:01

EnglishLady02 · Yesterday 11:37

Haaretz is known to be an extreme left-wing newspaper. Its not and has never been objective. People noting this is isn't bias- its pointing out the bias of the source.

Perhaps read the posts I’m referring to. Every newspaper has a political bias. No newspaper is objective. Trying to smear an unwelcome source because they are not politically aligned with you rather than address the issues raised does not suggest to me someone with an open mind who’s recommendations I should necessarily follow up on.

I understand your point now, thanks for clarifying.

I believe @inamarina has in fact, explained to you multiple times why she bought up the HD and that she was not arguing it didn't exist or wasn't used at all on October 7th. She has explained she was referring to people who use it as a blanket explanation and promote the erroneous idea hundreds died that way.

I think at this point your continual distortion and misrepresentation of my words and positions is deliberate.

No, it’s due to cross posts as I’ve pointed out above.

As you can see I have twice thanked @inamarina for clarifying her point and said I now understand it.

If you’re not able to grasp how crossposts can lead to this sort of confusion, I can’t help you I’m afraid.

Exactly. I certainly didn’t claim it didn’t exist at all.
But yes, I do find it horrible when people use it as a blanket explanation for the high numbers of deaths on October 7th.

Your argument is a prime example of the strawman fallacy: i.e misrepsetenting or distorting your opponents position to make it easier to attack.
I never said criticism of the Israeli government was antisemitic. I never conflated them with all Jews.

I simply pointed out a very real phenomenon whereby every attack on Jews is followed inevitably by people saying "Israel made them do it". I also pointed out there are people who will use events in the Middle East to justify attacks on both Jews and Israelis.

The fact you felt personally targeted by this says a lot.

I did not feel "personally targeted by this". It is a rather blatant attempt, yet again, at trying to insinuate something. It is really rather sad that you feel the need to do this. People are allowed to point things out. It is going to happen. It happens about anything and everything but even more so when innocent people are targeted. False claims of antisemitism only serves to make the word less meaningful. It is logical that this would happen as a direct result. Pointing this out does not mean that someone feels "personally targeted" by any of the nonsense being claimed. Sly digs do not help matters at all.

I was talking about OPs comments. You can tell if you read the rest of the sentence.

Is this arguing against things I haven’t said/accusing me of using words I haven’t used/accusing me of wilfully misinterpreting when I’ve responded politely to clarification etc really getting us anywhere? Shall we give it a rest and just discuss the issues?

What precisely are they "occupying?" The West Bank, which was ethnically cleansed of its ancient Jewish population by the Jordanian government between 1948-1967? Gaza? Not an occupation as they have no intention to permanently remain there.

I wonder where they are and also have been... despite what some attempt to try and dress it up as.

It really is just point scoring for its own sake for some on this thread, isn’t it?

Anyho, back to the premise of the thread.

Fauda is now in the Top 10 in many ME countries and No 1 in Lebanon. Tonnes of people talking about it on X.

I think we can assume the pro-Pal posters on here have not bothered to watch it.

Thank you for the recommendation.

I will be watching Fauda as a result of this thread. I just researched it a bit and it sounds very good plus was looking for a new series.

I'm not the demographic you hoped to reach as already support Israel -not the more extreme members of the current government though.

It's typical of Mumsnet that you are getting such anger just for suggesting a TV show that will likely be sympathetic to the Israel perspective. Yes, we know it's fictionalised. However, it is also based on true events so I'm expecting it to be informative as well as a good drama.

People ranting about propaganda and suggesting you are getting paid @FuadaFan need to calm down and stop being so paranoid.

EnglishLady02 · Yesterday 14:03

In the same way, people casually throwing round the word "genocide" makes it less meaningful. The term has a very specific meaning and application: which almost nobody is using correctly. Like "Zionist" it has simply become a smear.

People are indeed, allowed to express concerns, but we need to be aware of how the weaponisation of language can have consequences.

And the mention of antisemitism isn't wholly unfounded. Official statistics show a massive upsurge in antisemitic incidents in the last 3 years. There are some people for whom being anti Israel provides a convenient legitimisation for their hatred of Jews, and some for whom any conflict is an excuse to attack them.

I mean everything else aside, it is a just a very good show.

The claims @FuadaFan is being paid are just another version of the age old stereotype about Jews controlling the media, I fear.

"Food insecurity" and malnutrition aren't the same thing. That article is listing "food insecurity".

Here's an article listing high rates of obesity in Gaza pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10391640/

But let's look at some "malnourished" Gazans...

The links talk about food insecurity as well as malnutrition.
Thanks for the link on nutritional status of children in Gaza from 2011 to 2023, before the war which concluded
In conclusion, low birth weight (LBW) remains a problem in Palestine, with rates ranging from 8.5% to 6.7% from 2012 to 2021. Exposure to war and occupation, indoor pollution, smoking, anemia in mothers, and a poor diet during pregnancy are risk factors associated with LBW. Exclusive breastfeeding rates in Palestine have improved in recent years, with national rates reaching 43.3%, but employment, perceived insufficient breast milk, and the number of children remain significant barriers to exclusive breastfeeding. Complementary feeding practices are not well documented, with only two studies found. The prevalence of stunting, wasting, and being underweight remains high among children under 5 years in the Gaza Strip, with risk factors including poor awareness of healthy diets, poverty, poor socioeconomic situations, urbanization, and lifestyle among communities, in addition to the political situation and the blockade.

As the other person says, if a civilian building is being used for military purposes it becomes a legitimate target.

No, it takes more than that for a civilian building to become a legitimate target during war.

Any scholar or activist can say anything, it doesn't make them credible. They rely on the title of "scholar" to carry weight.

. Which is why I am wary of the so called "genocide scholars" and emphasise only the ICC are actually qualified to determine on this mater.

You mean ICJ, not ICC

Quoting the UN as a credible source again.

interesting

Apart from the fact the UN link posted does not say the rate of malnutrition in Gaza is lower than some European countries. The post is erroneous on that.

The ICC move quickly if they have credible evidence. They moved to issue arrest warrants against Hamas operatives within a year on the basis of "reasonable grounds". Reza works for what is essentially a pressure group and his "evidence" is far short of the standard required in a court.

It cannot have fallen far short if it is still under preliminary review. If it had, it would have been dismissed as you falsely alleged.
