AIBU to want to express support for women who were assaulted at a political conference?

To want to send out support to the two women visibly assaulted at a political conference.
I am concerned about the other protesters too and actually anyone who was hurt. But having to listen to jeering from the podium plus the crowd chanting in live TV at the same time must have been so traumatic and the publicity will die down and coverage move on but that can't be easy. Just want to send love and support.

So you do support a mob attacking a woman exercising free speech?

I didn't say that.

Reform always deflect

I'm not Reform - I vote Conservative.

You’ve been bringing up other parties which are completely different situations to women being violently assaulted by a mob.
you were absolutely using darvo and now you’ve been caught out you’re rewriting history

LlynTegid · 09/09/2026 10:24

Show your support by voting at every election for someone other than Reform.

You deflected to refer to a different incident. Do you support a mob attacking a woman exercising free speech? Yes or no?

OK, that was my subsequent question to the op - she has yet to answer.

I think that we would be having a very different conversation if it were about one man punching another who had assaulted him at point blank range

Not substantially different if Nigel Farage had punched a protester in the face after being assaulted with an egg. The op also states; 'the reaction of elected MPs - is everyone's problem.' Do you think elected MPs should be able to punch protesters in the face after being assaulted or provoked?

I don't think anyone should be 'allowed' to assault anyone - a position that seems alien to Reform supporters. I do think it is much easier to understand an instinctive immediate response to a direct physical assault than it is to understand why a mob of people beat a woman. I also think that if you have to resort to examining an incident that happened 25 years ago, you've probably already realised that Reform members have shown themselves up, and you're having to grasp at a range of increasingly irrelevant straws.

I wasn't the one who referred to the milkshake incidents first. Milkshake doesn't seem very different to egg.

CreativeGreen · 09/09/2026 10:38

Minor point, but why is the spacing around punctuation so haphazard with the defenders of this woman's assault? Like , ok you . don't like Reform , so I guess you love fascism , then?

To be fair, it was the op who referred to the past;
I wonder do young people realise how unusual this is...

My John Prescott link was dated November 2024, published by a left-wing newspaper.

I have to go out for the day - happy to revisit this thread tonight.

They’re probably paid farage bots. I wouldn’t put it past him

How unusual what is?

Politicians punching people? Well yes, you had to go back 25 years.

Reform members beating up women? Only need to go back a few days.

emuloc · 09/09/2026 10:53

The Reform supporters who violently attacked the Women, were not acting in self defence, which is a completely different scenario.

This. She did not attack anyone but was beaten with a stick and pulled by the hair. This can't be repeated often enough.

hattie43 · 09/09/2026 06:16

It’s so tedious . She didn’t even need to be there . No-one in that room would have had any interest in what she had to say . You and your ilk don’t like Reform , so what , plenty of others do so get over it . We live in a democracy, everyone can choose who they support and no amount of unwanted disruption will change that .

So can ‘lefties’ attack the men at the ports ‘protesting’?! They didn’t need to be there.

Warmlight1 · 09/09/2026 11:01

napody · 09/09/2026 08:39

It's horrific. The slightest inconvenience or disagreement and they're a violent mob.

"Where's the 5 million?" is a legitimate question that Farage needs to be asked every single day in every interaction.

And Jenrick is idiotic to the point I wonder how he gets through the day. "Cries foul if a pensioner knocks her over the head with his zimmer frame..." he admits he's seen that she's hit over the head with a stick and still waves it away. Old white men can abuse women and the women will be laughed at for mentioning it, and blamed for being there.

I really hope she contacts the police, but this is a problem in general with male violence against women. Even with video evidence it's up to her to pursue it. The police need to be finding out who the perpetrators were anyway. Hopefully they are.

I really do. I wonder how he gets through the day. But more than that I wonder how individuals have given themselves permission to blank out assault. Farage was alarmed and rightly so about having a milkshake thrown on him- a milkshake doesn't hurt- it's the psychological impact of the invasive act- of not knowing what's coming next, of the intention of the assailant, of a loss of control, you must momentarily fear for your life.
So- it's not like he doesn't know.

It's a wholly different context, John Prescott had an egg smashed in his face. What did this woman do? Equally, there is no way JP would have attacked a woman, I'm not suggesting it's correct to punch someone but it is a really flimsy comparison. Equally, there will be people on here that didn't even know what you are referring to as it was so long ago!

They didn't need to be there and they prevented many innocent members of the public going about their business.

hattie43 · 09/09/2026 06:06

Well here’s the thing . Don’t disrupt and enrage people and the chances are you won’t get your hair pulled .

So if you express an opinion, assault is warranted?

Ihateboris · 09/09/2026 11:11

Op, the footage I saw of a man hitting her with a stick, whilst she was also having her hair pulled, shocked and upset me. I hope she's OK x

LuckyHazelFox · 09/09/2026 08:17

I agree. However, are people forgetting that one of their associates has just been murdered. If anyone thinks what this woman did was remotely clever, especially at this time, then perhaps it's time we all checked our standards. She shouldn't have been assaulted and she shouldn't have been there. It was downright fucking stupidity.

Men shouldn't hit women full stop, call me a Traditionalist. Jeez, what has this country become where this is deemed justifiable, it's absolutely pathetic!

Goldenbear · 09/09/2026 11:17

Even The Telegraph is condemning it, suggesting this is not a party for decent people, says it all really doesn't it!

Ihateboris · 09/09/2026 11:20

'As an aside' is right 😂
The whataboutery is strong on this thread.
But to stay with it, can you imagine Prescott cheering on a baying mob violently laying into a lone woman? I really can't.

Yeah, it was widely understood when Prescott was in politics that being a dick to voters would cause problems, and so it proved with Prescott. Thirty years later it’s clear that Farage and his followers believe rules are for other people, and the moral high ground is something they can claim with violence and outright lies.

This whole incident is Operation Let Them Speak in action, as is (increasingly) this thread.

beguilingeyes · 09/09/2026 11:43

The bit that horrified me was when he put his hand over her face and gripped it. If he had pulled backwards he could have broken her neck.
The security staff were throwing the women out. These moronic thugs, and the people cheering them on have no justification at all.
