AIBU to want to express support for women who were assaulted at a political conference?

To want to send out support to the two women visibly assaulted at a political conference.
I am concerned about the other protesters too and actually anyone who was hurt. But having to listen to jeering from the podium plus the crowd chanting in live TV at the same time must have been so traumatic and the publicity will die down and coverage move on but that can't be easy. Just want to send love and support.

I’m shocked that anyone thinks an acceptable response to a perfectly legal, physically peaceful protest is to commit violence against the protestors. If she had to be removed from the event, it should have been done by the police, not by a bunch of people taking the law into their own hands.

Completely agree. The response was totally disproportionate. I don’t support Reform for this (any many other) reason (s). I don’t expect you would see this type of response, to what seemingly amounted to heckling, at any other party conference. Security would have removed them.

It’s so tedious . She didn’t even need to be there . No-one in that room would have had any interest in what she had to say . You and your ilk don’t like Reform , so what , plenty of others do so get over it . We live in a democracy, everyone can choose who they support and no amount of unwanted disruption will change that .

“Tedious”? An assault on a woman is tedious? Tell me you’re a misogynist without saying you’re a misogynist….

Were you there? Don't mean to pry- just wondered did you mean you saw it.

No but it was all over the news at the time Just Stop Oil protester punched and kicked https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-england-london-66249612 - this is one example.

A protester lies on the ground while a man stands over him.

Police are investigating the attack, which happened at a protest in west London.

Reform thugs only care about assaults on women if they are carried out by brown men.

Really. Has the thug, who murdered Ann Widdecombe suddenly changed skin colour? Pray tell how that happened.

As the protestors were (apparently) technically trespassing, I shouldn’t think they have a leg to stand on, legally.

I just wondered what the point of it was. They would never have convinced a roomful of Reform voters to change their votes. The cash thing was well known about anyway.

If it was to get their 5 minutes of fame on TV, then it worked I guess. 🤷‍♀️

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 09/09/2026 07:18

I do hope the police are looking into this. It’s not the first time it’s happened either.

This and the masked thugs in Dover.

In this country, trespassing isn’t a justification for assaulting someone.

The point is the same as any protest I’d have though - to show the strength of feeling against something.

‘Only care when the assaults are carried out by brown men or the attacks are on Reform supporters’ isn’t the win you seem to think it is.

BendoftheBeginning · 09/09/2026 07:26

Well, that Reform voter “we care so much about VAWG” mask slips pretty quickly, doesn’t it?

They couldn’t make it much clearer they only care about violence from brown men, but are fully signed up to violence by white men against women they dislike. And there go their “free speech” credentials, too.

Disgusting reform behaviour, but unsurprising. Equally shocking is people continuing to support them. I hope the thugs are all named, shamed and prosecuted.

Are you saying murder isn't an assault?

Superhansrantowindsor · 09/09/2026 07:31

Political protest has always happened. VAWG has always been minimised.
Having watched the clip I am horrified by that level of thuggery.

She's a self-confessed party hijacker. Wonder is she's being paid to agitate and by whom.

SamTR1 · 09/09/2026 07:32

I would like the protesters to be charged with committing a breach of the peace.

hattie43 · 09/09/2026 06:06

Well here’s the thing . Don’t disrupt and enrage people and the chances are you won’t get your hair pulled .

It is never an excuse to assault anyone at all. What about the nonsense line about "protecting women"? The behaviour was disgusting and should never have happened. All they have done is display their feelings towards women.

That is exactly it. Or when they can make them scapegoats. Vile group of individuals.

Oh I missed that. Thanks for pointing out the minimising of the murder of a 'Reform supporter'. I guess a party infiltrator's welfare is more important.
