AIBU to want to express support for women who were assaulted at a political conference?

To want to send out support to the two women visibly assaulted at a political conference.
I am concerned about the other protesters too and actually anyone who was hurt. But having to listen to jeering from the podium plus the crowd chanting in live TV at the same time must have been so traumatic and the publicity will die down and coverage move on but that can't be easy. Just want to send love and support.

He was a 29 year old Farmworker which you can tell by his forearms. JP was 63 and doesn't look in great shape - it doesn't look an even match at all!

Did you see the punch? It looked like a boxer's punch to me.

Nigel Farage doesn't look in great shape either, so you would be fine if he retaliated with a punch to a 29-year-old male protester if necessary?

Goldenbear · 09/09/2026 21:47

Yes, I mean it was a different time, I think his popularity did go up and he wasn't charged as he claimed self defence. The man who egged him was a Farm worker and 29 at the time!!

In the conference scenario can the person(s) claim self defence? Absolutely not.

They can’t.

Exactly. I only know because I was the type of kid interested in politics from age 7 so I remember a lot of things my peers don’t.

Unfortunately, I don't have that excuse as was about 20 at the time😂. However, many on MN now will be like you or younger!

Suspended from the party. Charged. Convicted. Let’s hope Reform acts as quickly. Remind me what this has to do with a group of people beating up a woman.

Yep, that case was bad but I suspect there was some fear involved. I don’t know all the details but he alleged there were threats made and it’s conceivable he -even as a man- was scared of another man and went overboard to defend himself when he was approached while out and about.

In the statement, he told police: "I thought I was about to be physically assaulted by this male. I was terrified and felt vulnerable and cornered by the male and others in the group

I really don’t feel the reform gang were acting like this because they were scared of these women.

How are the actions of the security indicative of the party. Equally, I asked you whether Rachel Reeves mocked them and then worse appear in a sky interview belittling the protestor with a "boo hoo" mockery. As I posted this afternoon even The Telegraph is warning us of the Reform party now, with the article headline, "The violence against anti-Reform protesters should worry us all". The article discusses how this is indicative of its decency with members that behave like that. Tbh it's not a good sign when the Torygraph is writing such pieces!

Dead in the water Reform

Only left wing feminists oppose groups beating up women? Bold take.

The poster was expressing surprise that the article was published in the Telegraph.

You missed out the next bit;

Judge Everett said: "What he said to police doesn't seem to fit in with the CCTV in pretty well any respect."

It wasn't surprise, I was highlighting confirmation from the Telegraph that they don't align themselves with the Reform voter.

Still, Prescott was 63, egged by a muscular 29 year old farm worker!

Ah really! I do admit only skimread a few articles on this.

As I said it’s a terrible situation regardless - but even more so if it actually was due to uncontrollable anger at something he said rather than fear.

I am glad he was convicted! And so should all of the men guilty of violence at the reform conference.

ETA: I’ve just read Amesy was drunk 😣 to be clear drunkenness doesn’t make it better. Makes it worse if anything.

To be fair, you said the Torygraph - which rather confirms they support the Conservative Party.

Edited

Neither one of them was charged with a criminal offence.

Well they are both very right wing and Tice's girlfriend writes for the Telegraph so I don't think it's that clear cut anymore. I stated that out of habit.

What? The reform men aren’t getting charged?!

Why ever not?

* Heads to Google to find out what the heck is going on. * 😂

SevenYellowHammers · 09/09/2026 22:25

In the interests of accuracy, Prescott’s punch wasn’t the big disgrace for Labour in my view. That came in 2012 when Eric Joyce head butted a conservative MP in the Strangers Bar because thee were “too many Tories in here”. A very poor day for Labour and a good reason to limit the boozing in the H of C.

The horse is dead. You can stop flogging it now.

The horse revived and set off at a canter Grin

Raydaye · 09/09/2026 22:38

Bit off topic but times like this I glad I don’t live in the US.

If a protester/ citizen/politician gets angry or feels threatened the worst thing that’s going to happen is usually going to be fisticuffs which yeah can be fatal - but not as bad as everyone having access to guns which can kill a large number of people very quickly

Clavinova · 09/09/2026 22:01

The heckler has said he was removed by security

The neck-grabbing man looked more like a steward to me rather than security.

Stewarding is contracted out. Maybe you mean delegate.

Its admirable though that you’ve spent so much time highlighting variously a 25-year old case, an MP who was suspended and a young man who may possibly have been grabbed at some point by a party member (although he complained about his treatment by security and the police) to try and minimise a woman being beaten by Reform members, action which failed to be condemned by the leadership (quite the reverse indeed).

11AndCounting · 09/09/2026 23:21

This shouldn't happen but, realistically, a woman protesting at an event attended by hourdes of woman-beaters risks being beaten.

Not victim blaming - the protesters are brave doing what they did.

Anyway, hopefully the treasonous scumbags who've been operating the Reform "UK" scam/party will be sharing a cell with their old mate, Nathan Gill, before too long.

Maybe they'll get beaten in prison 🤗

Didn't ask for your life story, thanks. Also don't know why you'd be embarrassed by your own posting history?

Again, it not that your views are unpopular, it's that you refuse to defend them. I've asked questions of you in various threads of late and you've either deflected or ignored them.

One thing you seem to be missing here. I was quoted by different posters in quick succession. Make your mind up, do you want me to reply or not? The reason I don't normally acknowledge your questions is because quite frankly, when I see certain usernames tagging me, I know from past experience, not to bother going there. The mistake I made was acknowledging your latest indirect attempt at trying to insinuate there was something suspect about me. I won't be doing that again, you will be ignored.
