AIBU to want to express support for women who were assaulted at a political conference?

To want to send out support to the two women visibly assaulted at a political conference.
I am concerned about the other protesters too and actually anyone who was hurt. But having to listen to jeering from the podium plus the crowd chanting in live TV at the same time must have been so traumatic and the publicity will die down and coverage move on but that can't be easy. Just want to send love and support.

I'm not a Reform voter, I'm a Tory. I voted Reform at the last GE as a protest vote. I'm not 'justifying' that one any further. The Andi Peters thread is very quiet. I could say that some only care about racism when it's against a certain type of brown person or when the perp isn't right wing. See how it all works.

Yes. Of course. People not taking part in a thread about a celebrity is exactly the same as people actively making excuses for violence against the wrong type of woman.

It’s so tedious . She didn’t even need to be there . No-one in that room would have had any interest in what she had to say . You and your ilk don’t like Reform , so what , plenty of others do so get over it . We live in a democracy, everyone can choose who they support and no amount of unwanted disruption will change that .

Still illegal to physically assault people whose voices and views you don't like pal. Lucky for your lot eh? Bisous.

Oh I thought there would be a difference, there always is.

People have protested conferences all the time. Remember the guy who have Theresa May a p45?

I think the violence at this event plus all the dodgy finances are giving all the swing voters and undecided voters all the info they need and hopefully another nail in the coffin for Reform Party Ltd.

Staunched Reform voters will still minimise and deflect all issues and have double standards about violence.

That image of the older women raking at her hair sickened me.

Glad I’ve been able to educate you about the difference between people not contributing to a thread (maybe they didn’t see it, maybe they aren’t interested in celebrities, maybe the title didn’t grab their attention) and spending time on a thread repeatedly making excuses for assault. Every day is a school day.

Really. Has the thug, who murdered Ann Widdecombe suddenly changed skin colour? Pray tell how that happened.

No-one has been convicted of her murder.

I suppose it demonstrates that these must be real Reform supporters. I can’t imagine even Russian bots would think any of these lines of defence is going to tempt swing voters.

It's horrific. The slightest inconvenience or disagreement and they're a violent mob.

"Where's the 5 million?" is a legitimate question that Farage needs to be asked every single day in every interaction.

And Jenrick is idiotic to the point I wonder how he gets through the day. "Cries foul if a pensioner knocks her over the head with his zimmer frame..." he admits he's seen that she's hit over the head with a stick and still waves it away. Old white men can abuse women and the women will be laughed at for mentioning it, and blamed for being there.

I really hope she contacts the police, but this is a problem in general with male violence against women. Even with video evidence it's up to her to pursue it. The police need to be finding out who the perpetrators were anyway. Hopefully they are.

It's all part of the hyper-masculine feedback loop; insecurity (feeling threatened that "other" people will take their jobs/homes/women), join a group of similarly frustrated men (low IQ, low status banding together as group is stronger, dress in black to intimidate), RAGE at everything or anyone who gets in their way with very little need to discuss why or look at facts - on a hare trigger for violence and always shout the loudest/smash stuff/argue the toss with everyone you come in contact with - eventually get arrested and a permanent record.

Then after all that they wonder why they can't get jobs or a woman and the cycle starts again.

As the protestors were (apparently) technically trespassing, I shouldn’t think they have a leg to stand on, legally.

I just wondered what the point of it was. They would never have convinced a roomful of Reform voters to change their votes. The cash thing was well known about anyway.

If it was to get their 5 minutes of fame on TV, then it worked I guess. 🤷‍♀️

Were they trespassing? How?

In any event, the law does not permit criminal assault on trespassers. You can use only reasonable force to eject them. Hecklers turn up at every party conference, but other parties manage to deal with them without having men hitting women over the head and seizing them by the hair.

Have the Police even said, what they beleive the motive for murder, was?

Fizbosshoes · 09/09/2026 08:52

The Andi Peters thread i commented on got to 40 pages, id say people had quite a lot to say about it.....
Its possible for both things to be true- it was outrageous, unreasonable and unacceptable the way MM spoke to Andi Peters on live TV (it would be just as bad in private)
Its also outrageous, unreasonable and unacceptable for people to commit (and also condone) violence at a party conference

"we live in a democracy" from the person excusing violence towards a woman

Indeed.

This is ludicrous the whole bloody lot of them , all politicians are self serving . Where were the placards when Sir Keir took free clothes , glasses , concert tickets , sports tickets , accommodation etc or Angela Rayners highly dubious property and council tax affairs or what about Polanski gifting £1500 to his own party which isn’t allowed .
All of them have their hands in the trough , just because Farage was given millions supposedly for security ( and given the murder of AW and these conference. gatecrashers who could have had weapons you can see exactly why he’d be nervous ) the principle is the same and the left can’t portray a holier than though attitude when socialist politicians avail themselves of an awful lot .

YourWatermelonship · 09/09/2026 07:41

You, with your own eyes, presumably having seen the video

Do you think the manhandling, pushing, face grabbing, hair pulling and hitting with a walking stick are not assault?

I think manhandling, pushing and dragging her away seem borderline to me ( and I am vehemently anti reform). Of course she had the right to protest but I'd say as she was in a private area and causing a disturbance, reform should be able to remove her by using reasonable force if necessary so some manhandling night have been OK if she refused to leave

However, they should have asked her to leave first and hitting her with a stick as an initial immediate response to something she said and then piling on her when she was on the ground absolutely falls outside of reasonable force in my opinion. It certainly looked like a common assault to me on the video, but I am not a lawyer, what do I know

It was an elderly women doing it , she obviously felt threatened aswell . I cannot fathom that you refuse to accept that just because someone’s a woman doesn’t mean they are immune from making poor choices and judgement.

But there was huge blowback over all of those things. Starmer was hammered over the freebies, Rayner faced enormous scrutiny and investigations and lost her government job, and Polanski's donation was reported and returned.

The difference is that none of that makes a £5 million undeclared gift to Farage somehow irrelevant. “Everyone does it” isn't really a defence if transparency matters, it should apply to all politicians, including Farage.

Nice attempt at a deflection though ...

One woman, surrounded by men doing worse. Group psychology. Imagine if she had been the wrong colour!

Sereine · 09/09/2026 09:04

LuckyHazelFox · 09/09/2026 08:17

I agree. However, are people forgetting that one of their associates has just been murdered. If anyone thinks what this woman did was remotely clever, especially at this time, then perhaps it's time we all checked our standards. She shouldn't have been assaulted and she shouldn't have been there. It was downright fucking stupidity.

Using the murder of one supporter as an excuse to justify this sort of criminal assault is just crass and cynical, and really pretty offensive to the victim.

hattie43 · 09/09/2026 06:06

Well here’s the thing . Don’t disrupt and enrage people and the chances are you won’t get your hair pulled .

Blimey. So attacking women for exercising free speech is now acceptable? Not in the Britain I love. Just shows how immoral, ignorant and hypocritical Reform supporters are. Milkshake anyone?

She felt threatened by someone heckling and asking Nigel about his millions? Don't be ridiculous.

And democracies (last time I looked) enshrine the right to protect peacefully…

Unless you're trying to protect the rights of the British people of course.
Try that and you are labelled a right wing thug

Since when did being tedious become justification for criminal assault?

Yes, we do live in a democracy. Guess what, that means tolerating free speech.

Yep, exactly. That's why Jenrick is such a fool for highlighting the hitting round the head with a stick. He's not even bright enough to be effectively evil. Bet the Russians aren't tempted to give him millions like they did Nathan Gill (former leader of Reform UK in Wales jailed for taking Russian bribes just in case you missed it).
